Anyone think they had/have covid but not tested positive?

Hi, I think maybe this is me being paranoid but I have had some symptoms for 3 weeks; scratchy sore throat & blocked nose mainly, st the start not feel that fatigued with it all but started testing after my daughter tested positive (she also had cough, and full on cold - didn't test her until a a few days in as her sister had just had a non covid cold & dd felt well enough to go into college; she was feeling unwell in waves but the first covid test day3-4 approx was neg. But by a week she just wasn't turning a corner is this was just a cold so tested and a instant positive! (3 days later it was negative & better a week later)

Meanwhile I still have an on/off sore throat & fatigue so been testing every few days-neg. But I have been feeling worse in the last 5 days - though I also have a UTI. But feel like I have a cold & sore throat , achy & hugely fatigued ; tested daily (OK that probably over the top but I have had medical app re UTI plus have a guest staying this week at our house) and all negative.

I just wonder if I had covid a few weeks ago, when dd had it and I'm suffering with non infective symptoms. I wish I could just feel better.

Same here @K73c. Feeling awful, like a wretched cold, really tight, heavy chest, upset stomach, tired and achy. Intermittently boiling hot. Sneezing and snotty. It’s been a week and every test (of several) has been negative.

I had exactly the same a few months back and never tested positive but that went on and on for weeks and I felt so ill. I’ve only ‘officially' had Covid once and that took a full 7 days of what seemed to be the worst cold ever before I started testing positive…

Jifmicroliquid · 02/08/2024 11:16

I’ve had awful colds and coughs and they’ve not been covid. I’ve currently got Covid and honestly it’s not what I thought it would be. I have no cough and barely a sniffle.
I think there’s just a lot of everything going around.

Summertimer · 02/08/2024 11:20

In 2022, all three of us in our household had the same thing at the same time. DH tested positive repeatedly and for ages. I didn’t

Obelism · 02/08/2024 12:19

Obviously I’d be relieved to think I haven’t got Covid! This feels so like when I did have it, though ☹️

LuckysDadsHat · 02/08/2024 12:38

I tested positive after my daughter had been ill for 2 weeks with the exact same symptoms and she had tested negative. I am sure she had it as well as we both started with back ache and then get very high temp and severe aches and pains.

Tunnelsong · 02/08/2024 12:42

My son tested negative on a home kit while we waited for his covid result from testing centre. We did it properly (mine was positive) and his was negative. A few hours later his testing centre test came back positive.

Witchbitch20 · 02/08/2024 12:49

Yesterday I was feeling absolutely dreadful and tested negative. Today I’m positive.
Sore throat and temperature.

I had unknowingly been in contact with someone who had covid. Partner has MS, mother has stage 3 cancer so I tested to make sure I keep away from them.

My whole family came down with an awful, awful bug/virus/flu whatever 3 weeks a go. Tested for Covid over the first 8-10 days maybe 4 times because I just couldn’t understand what was wrong with us all. We had raging temperatures, achy bodies to the point of not really being able to walk, sore throats, coughs, being sick, chills and shakes etc it was horrific.

Anyway my partner has made a total and complete recovery, he did after literally 5 days or less. The kids haven’t really been themselves tbh, still coughing up mucous and the odd runny nose. But me.. oh me I’ve been SO ill. I had the initial flu symptoms, then sinus infection and now an ear infection. I’ve not had a single break from being so ill in the entire 3 weeks. I did a Covid test today and it’s positive. I’m unsure if it’s still positive from when I first got poorly 3 weeks a go or if I caught it in the last 1.5 weeks since I last tested. The line isn’t raging though, it’s maybe only 50% visible but absolutely there.

Dh has it. Me and one dc have the exact same symptoms and testing negative. It’s really weird. I actually wish I knew I was positive as I’m eligible for anti virals. I feel dreadful.

HardMaths · 03/08/2024 06:30

Back during the first couple of years we all had it three times. That was when we were all locked down together so there was no possibility that we had anything else.

DS always tested postive on lateral flow but we never did. We only tested positive on PCR. So yes, you can definitely have covid and test negative on lateral flow.

WatchOutMissMarpleIsAbout · 03/08/2024 06:33

I’m think I’m going to see if I can find somewhere that does pcr as I feel quite rough. Could maybe do with antivirals. North London/herts area if anyone knows of anywhere.

Coconutter24 · 03/08/2024 07:29

Does it matter if it’s Covid or not. You’re feeling unwell so plenty of rest and fluids and just ride it out

Strawberriesandpimms · 03/08/2024 07:46

I've had "not-covid" twice in the last 2 years. All the symptoms but tested negative. DH is immune compromised but didnt catch it off me. I just stayed in the spare bed for a few days until I felt well enough to get up and dressed and shuffle around. Plenty of fluids (and paracetamol/ ibruprofen - which tbf didn't do that much). Just had to sleep it off for 3-5 days. Still got a slight cough first thing in the morning a month later.

Thought I have Covid, turns out it was the flu...

I’m eligible for antivirals if it’s Covid so it may make a difference and I’m immunocompromised so a positive test may help. I had the booster recently so I’m hoping that’s helping somewhat!

AgnesX · 03/08/2024 08:04

Twice, and both times after being in a multi person environment (like work).

The first time was right at the beginning before COVID was a thing so might have have been just flu as there were no tests but it floored me.

The second time sounds exactly as you describe but the test was negative. I'm rarely sick-ill but the sniffling and cough was so tiring, I was knackered and took weeks to really get over.

RickiRaccoon · 03/08/2024 08:54

I was at home with a toddler and we both tested negative on a RAT. I sent in a swab as part of a study my toddler was in and he tested positive for Covid. We tested negative the whole time with RATs. It was just the study swab that used different testing that showed he had Covid (and presumably I did too).

My profoundly disabled son tested positive on a lft last week so has had the antivirals.

I was surprised that at no point did anyone test him or ask to see the positive lft.

WatchOutMissMarpleIsAbout · 03/08/2024 09:15

Ahh that’s interesting thank you but I don’t want to say I have it when showing negative. I hope your ds is ok and recovering 😍

I would assume though people in that position would go to a doctor or seek medical advice from somewhere (MN doesn’t count lol). A lot of people just seem to want to know they have it so they can say they’ve got it

WatchOutMissMarpleIsAbout · 07/08/2024 08:22

have tested positive on day 5
now have chest infection
so antibiotics
decided with gp against virals

Blingismything · 07/08/2024 12:59

I had what I thought was a mild cold a few weeks ago, my sense of smell and taste has not returned since them so assume it was Covid.

spiderlight · 13/08/2024 16:08

My teen DS is currently laid up with Covid, after a glaring positive test on Saturday. I've had a very weird spaced-out head, a headache, a sore throat and felt generally grotty and exhausted since Friday, but I'm testing negative. I felt exactly like this when DS last had Covid two years ago - had the same weird head, in particular, which started the day before his symptoms appeared. I tested negative then as well. I'm not as poorly as he is, so I think this is just the way my body feels when it's fighting off Covid, rather than actually having it - I was really properly ill with it for weeks in late 2020.

I’m eligible for antivirals as I’m immuno compromised. If I was to get it badly I’d be hospitalised. I know of someone who died of Covid complications last week.
