Hi. I've got covid for the 1st time. I literally feel like I've been trampled. Body aches, shivers, sweats, fever, nausea, throat feels like full of glass, ribs ache from coughing. Nothing helps! Anyone have any remedies they've tried? I just want to sleep 😴

OP posts:

I've been there OP, and I genuinely thought I was going to die. I was on my knees with COVID.

For the nausea, I sniffed high alcohol hand sanitiser. It really helped curb it for a few seconds. I definitely looked crazy huffing hand sanitiser at various points of the day!

Google it if you don't believe me!

I had to stop googling COVID symptoms in general through. I read some horror stories about long COVID etc so keep off google for that.

I personally think a damp face towel helped me a lot. It helped with the fever and kept me from sweating into my hair.

Honestly, you just need to take it day by day. Don't let it beat you down. Small, frequent meals. Skipping a few meals won't do you any harm. Short breaths when needed and sniff as much hand sanitiser as you can get your hands on.

hotcandle · 01/10/2023 00:23

Oh and PLEASE keep up with paracetamol /ibuprofen. That should help the ribs, fever and throat (I think a pharmacist told me ibuprofen was better).

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 01/10/2023 00:35

God,it's bloody awful, isn't it? I'm on day 12 and lying here still feeling awful with dreadful earache and headache. It absolutely floored me and I say that as someone who has had proper full on flu. Take pain killers regularly, drink lots of fluids, Rehydration sachets helped me.

LovePoppy · 01/10/2023 00:46

I’m right there with you. I might be dying

caringcarer · 01/10/2023 02:14

Drink loads of water. Don't let yourself get dehydrated. Take paracetamol. Try to sleep lots. I hope all you poorly people have someone to look after you and look after your kids.

Dustpantsandbush · 01/10/2023 03:01

Sleep as much as you can. I’m 2 days out the other side. It was honestly the worst illness I’ve had in a long time.
I doubled up paracetamol and ibuprofen every 4-6 hours and just slept. Feel better soon 💐

baroqueandblue · 01/10/2023 06:54

Sorry you're finding it hellish OP, such a lousy experience for some of us 😔 This morning my cough/chest is the worst bit - burny, dry and tiring; yesterday it was the pain in my teeth, like having a big nail hammered into my jaw. Feel so doomy and low, tearful at times. The intensity will pass, no doubt, but I could so do without this crap! 🙄

Hope you feel better as the day goes on 💐

Oakbeam · 01/10/2023 07:03

Oh and PLEASE keep up with paracetamol /ibuprofen.

It was only when I stopped taking paracetamol and let the fever do its thing that I started to get better.

choixduroi · 01/10/2023 08:54

On day 7 of first time COVID too, and the first 2 days were as you describe. I would say just sleep, I personally let the fever run and didn't take paracetamol but just ate throat sweets. The really awful phase will probably be over soon, all you can do is just rest. Hope you feel better soon!

baroqueandblue · 01/10/2023 12:31

I've been doing the same, re: paracetamol etc. Except for yesterday, when the toothache was so merciless I had to take a 30/500 cocodamol. But that's it, and although I feel rubbish, it does feel as though things are working themselves through 🤞

lightpineapple · 01/10/2023 12:34

For the nausea and dizziness I felt a million times better when I stopped looking at screens (previously I'd been trying to continue wfh!) I'm very prone to motion sickness though so might just be a me thing.

Resting with my eyes closed with podcasts etc instead of watching tv really helped. Hope you feel better soon Flowers

CryingAtTheDiscotheque · 01/10/2023 12:53

I am recovering from covid - after 12 days just starting to feel a little more human - the worst symptoms were sore throat, stomach cramps, nausea and raging temperature. DH still unwell and testing positive after 14 days.

Worst I've ever felt with covid - felt more like a severe flu. Could not move for days!

I second the advice about paracetamol and ibuprofen - I took both in staggered doses for a few days which did at least allow me to sleep.

Rest as much as you can. Hope you feel better soon.

I did the same, I couldn't sleep so just lay on bed listening to podcasts.

WildFlowerBees · 01/10/2023 18:36

I switched to aspirin as paracetamol and ibuprofen did nothing for me. Night nurse to help me sleep and drink a ton of water. Boring but you'll need it. I'm on day 4 and my symptoms change daily. No headache today but weird dizziness and my hips ache. Full of cold and a hacking cough. I'm better than I was yesterday though.

I also have some practices that are far too woo for MN but are seemingly helping this virus to move through me quicker.

AuntieStella · 01/10/2023 18:41

Rest, rest and rest some more.

This wave does seem to be laying people low. Vaccine effectiveness has waned, so I'm wondering if that's why.

Even when you start to feel better, don't rush back to usual activities. You can't push through covid fatigue, and can cause a setback if you try.

PickledPurplePickle · 01/10/2023 18:42

For me it was bedrest, paracetamol, cold showers, flannel on head, plenty of fluids and sleep

choixduroi · 01/10/2023 18:49

I'm going crazy not going to gym etc. I know you have to take it easy but it's very difficult. I know I shouldn't tho because a one hour walk and usual household tasks is more than enough right now. Apart from the guilt of having time off work (going back tomorrow). Is anyone else like this? As soon as I feel a tiny bit better I start making grandiose plans and then crash out on the couch.

paulhollywoodshairgel · 01/10/2023 20:25

Thanks for all the advice ❤️ I've literally slept through the entire day. I've had full blown flu and this is worse.. I wonder is it because I've never had it??

No this version of Covid is horrific, it's way worse than omicron. My mum had covid last year and said this one she had a couple of weeks ago was worse

Grumpyolebitch · 01/10/2023 20:32

You want ginger beer. Old fashioned , rammed full of sugar and strong enough to make your eyes water type stuff. A few sips of that before you attempt to eat will help you a bit. Your favourite fruit juice frozen into ice lollies and a bit of Vicks before you attempt to sleep. Try to turn each trip to the loo or fridge into a gentle 5/10 minute pace about the house so you keep your circulation going and other than that you just need to try and get into a Netflix series and wait it out. I second the poster who said don’t rush back to your normal routine, I did that and ended up with post viral fatigue for months.

Floopyfloop · 01/10/2023 20:36

Had it for the last 2 weeks and it’s the worst bout I have had. Nausea, nightmares, barely sleeping, headaches so bad that I thought I was having a stroke!

Still sweating and feeling like shit

WildFlowerBees · 01/10/2023 20:45

Has anyone else had that feeling of something crawling on you? I keep checking for bloody spiders in bed it's horrible.

Cookerhood · 01/10/2023 20:48

Please don't let the fever run, that won't help you get better & could cause harm. Take paracetamol & ibuprofen.

CambridgeLass · 01/10/2023 20:53

Dont take ibuprofen on an empty stomach, always take with food.

PandaChopChop · 01/10/2023 20:54

I've just had covid for the third time and it was just as bad as the first two times although i didnt lose my smell or taste again (mind you they didnt come back properly anyway).

Paracetamol and ibuprofen don't skip any doses and keep drinking water.
I didn't want to eat this time round so just small snacks helped keep me going. Don't push yourself and take it day by day. I'm on day 8 now and feeling much better.
