WWYD - urgent

Situation as it stands:

elderly parent in hospital suddenly with suspected multiple infections - not in imminent danger of passing away but in a bad way

currently live 250+ miles away

my 7 yr old dc just tested positive for covid. I have just tested negative but have obviously had a lot of physical contact etc

My train is booked for 2 hours time, and now I don’t know if I should travel or not.

gut instinct says stay home but worried about DP in hospital who is expecting me.

WWYD?

Sorry but I think the greater harm is the risk of infection. Same thing happened to my SIL (altho tbf it was her who tested positive) and she felt awful but ultimately could go and see parent a little later when testing negative. I think the likelihood of you picking it up from your dc is quite high. I didn't test positive until 2 days after I had awful symptoms when I had it.

How long were you planning to visit for?

You'll be worrying if you go.

Willmafrockfit · 30/04/2023 09:50

you will have to wear a mask if you do go

Willmafrockfit · 30/04/2023 09:51

just keep your distance also

MarmiteRoasties · 30/04/2023 09:56

I was going to stay as long as needed really. I can’t believe this

Can you go and stay nearby, testing regularly? I wouldn't see your parent until at least 5 days or so have passed without you testing positive. It's horrible, but they are at a low point physically and you don't want to make that worse - plus you also don't want to carry Covid into a hospital knowingly either.

chutneysauce · 30/04/2023 12:30

I would leave it a bit, honestly. It's just a bit too risky. If at all possible for you, wait out the required days ( no idea what it is now) and then visit. When I had covid I had the worst symptoms and was convinced I had it yet I tested negative for two days , and only tested positive the 3rd day

How would you keep your distance in a hospital room with an airborne virus? What would that achieve?
Op, I think for peace of mind it's better to wait and test (throat and nose) before visiting.

mexicanandafewdrinks · 01/05/2023 00:20

stay home for 3 more days. stay away from dc who may infect you

thaegumathteth · 01/05/2023 00:20

I don't think I'd go in your position. Dd tested positive on Monday and I tested positive on Thursday. I feel crap and wouldn't want to pass it on to anyone who was already unwell. Sorry though, what a shit time.

thaegumathteth · 01/05/2023 00:21

I've just seen this was from yday. How are you OP?

Nimbostratus100 · 01/05/2023 00:22

what did you decide OP? I hope you stayed home

VaulterTech · 01/05/2023 00:28

Go with mask

Groutyonehereagain · 01/05/2023 00:29

Masks don’t work.

MarmiteRoasties · 01/05/2023 06:16

Hi, I stayed home but we unfortunately got v bad news re my DParent and they’ve asked me to come down. Still testing negative

OP posts:
Cantchooseaname · 01/05/2023 06:20

Just go.
A common cold could also spread and cause significant issues for sections of population. But we can’t test for that, and if you were feeling well you wouldn’t contemplate not seeing someone in hospital because someone else in the house had a cold.

GoodChat · 01/05/2023 06:22

Go if they're in a really bad way.

MarmiteRoasties · 01/05/2023 06:41

I’m on my way ❤

Do not go to a hospital with covid

wear a mask, keep distance from everyone and hopefully your parent is in a side room. Please go and see your parent. They have called you for a reason OP, I'm sorry.

OP doesn't have covid and no reason to suggest they will.
