Testing negative, could it be Covid anyway ? DH positive.

DH and I both ill with much the same symptoms. Cough, temperature, flat out total exhaustion. He started to feel off on Sunday morning and tested positive on Sunday evening. I started to feel off late Sunday night but I am negative so far. It seems unlikely that I have something different but why am I not positive? I am staying at home, but too unwell to go anywhere anyway. I am slightly less rough today than yesterday when I couldn’t really move.
Could it be the test brand ? DH used an NHS one we had and I have used a different one from Tesco. Dd has a sore throat and is slightly off colour but also testing negative. Although she has had Covid before and only tested positive for two days, again with just a sore throat and no other symptoms.

Actually I think I can see the faintest of faint lines ? Although I may have left it a bit too long, not sure how long it was.

I can see a faint line there. But tbh there is so much covid alike stuff going around-I'm laid up with all the symptoms plus it feels like someone is drilling through my left eardrum. Lots of my team are off with the same as are lots of kids at school.

SirVixofVixHall · 06/12/2022 12:47

In my bedroom light I can’t see anything, but by the window where it is bright I can see very faint line I think ?

That is a faint positive, I had that last Thursday and did further tests and still showed faint positive.I don't have any covid symptoms and have tested positive since.

vodkaredbullgirl · 06/12/2022 12:50

How many tests do you have left?

SirVixofVixHall · 06/12/2022 12:51

Thanks warofthemonstertrucks
we have had Covid in the house three times and I have never caught it, but it seems most likely that is what I have as DH is positive. Would be good to know as I have been debating the booster, haven’t had one yet as I was very unwell after the last one.

That's positive

SirVixofVixHall · 06/12/2022 12:54

I have plenty of tests, nine I think. So I can test again tonight or tomorrow. We are testing dd daily as she is in school, so i have ordered some more from Boots. Mil is 87 and lives alone so we always have tests at home and test before seeing her or if we have any symptoms.

SirVixofVixHall · 06/12/2022 12:56

Obviously I don’t want Covid but better to know.

DD had a fever and was so poorly but her tests took 48hrs to go positive, when the coughing started.
Whereas her brother had a tickly throat and a strong positive. Viruses are strange.

CointreauVersial · 06/12/2022 12:58

Could be your viral load is just less than DH's.

Does it matter if it's Covid or not? If you have ANY sort of respiratory illness surely you'd keep away from people.

Blabla81 · 06/12/2022 13:02

Left is NhS and right is a tesco test - the tesco ones were rubbish - only started showing positive about 5 days into having covid. Same happened to my brother.

Testing negative, could it be Covid anyway ? DH positive.

Yes, of course. I am really careful re not spreading anything. I would just like to know one way or the other as it will mean I don’t have the booster.

Blabla81 that is really shocking ! I won’t order any more then. I wonder what brand is best now NHS ones aren’t available.

I am also really careful about not spreading anything. Regardless of whether it's flu, this season's nasty cold virus, or Covid.

MaggieMagpie357 · 06/12/2022 13:42

@SirVixofVixHall I had to double take when I read this post as we're in exactly the same Covid situation as you! Husband positive Sunday night, I have same symptoms but testing negative so far. Probably because I think he caught it in London last week so I may be a few days behind. Luckily not feeling too rough at the moment. We've managed to avoid it for nearly three years so it has to get us sooner or later! (though could have done without it ruining DD's big birthday)

SirVixofVixHall · 06/12/2022 13:55

Maggie I also have a big birthday for dd coming up, how funny ! I should be organising things but I am in bed.

I had booked my flu and covid jabs, now i have had to cancel them for this week. I'm the last one at work to get covid, few have had it more than once. The only reason I tested, was residents having covid.

FlowFlex I’d say would probably be the better ones to use - most Boots and local chemists around my way seem well stocked and you can order online. I definitely wouldn’t bother with the ones that Tesco sell, ever again.

I was going to say the same. Why bother testing unless you really have to know either way regarding going to work

Jules912 · 06/12/2022 15:53

I found those Tesco ones rubbish too, apart from anything else the sample hole is so small I ended up having to take it apart to get it to work at all.
Gone back to flowflex now, which I was avoiding as DS gets false positives on them, but figure that's better than not working at all and we'll just ignore the really faint lines for him.

Because I haven’t had the most recent booster, and won’t if this is Covid. Also if I feel better I will still avoid people for the rest of the week if this is Covid, whereas I might go out if I was feeling fine again, with any other virus.
Does anyone know if you get more unwell due to added viral load, if you are with other people with Covid ? At the moment DH and I are separate, would be nice to be together.

Thanks, by coincidence I ordered some Flowflex from Boots yesterday which were meant to be delivered today but haven’t arrived yet, hopefully will be here tomorrow.
