Immune to COVID?

Peedoffo · 21/11/2022 11:51

I have had multiple exposures to COVID , I've nursed people with COVID throughout the pandemic. I never caught it despite working in different wards constantly I always tested negative. We have had household COVID I cuddled DD and held her ,still tested negative. Are some people naturally immune to it ?

Seems like it. I'm jabbed and boostered up to the wazoo, but didn't have it even before the jabs. Mate hasn't had one jab but she hasn't had it either. I was taking a lot of Vit D (oncologist's advice) and had a healthy diet, maybe that helped.

Skiphopbump · 21/11/2022 11:58

I felt the same, covid had been in my household five times before I finally caught last month when one of my DDs caught it for the second time.
I had had my antibodies tested (as part of a study I’m in) a couple of days before I caught it and they showed that they were at a higher level. My case was mild but I could definitely tell I had it. DD had no idea she had it until her monthly PCR came back positive.

Sheilascarface · 21/11/2022 12:31

Some people are just outliers who won’t get it. I work in a hospital with frontline staff, partner is frontline and I didn’t catch it once. Thought I was immune. Caught it this year on a day out in a city and it made me severely ill.

TeeBee · 21/11/2022 12:37

Yes, there are genes that make you less susceptible to catching the virus. I think I have it. I've not caught it yet, despite plenty of exposure.

Buzzinwithbez · 21/11/2022 16:17

I think some people just aren't susceptible, though is there a possibility you had it pre 2020?

MrsMitford3 · 21/11/2022 16:20

Just out of interest -those of you who have never had it-what are your blood types?

I haven't had it either and everyone else in my household has.
I am O and have read that O are less likely to get/get severely?

Worldgonecrazy · 21/11/2022 16:21

Of course there will be people with natural immunity. It’s the same with many mild to severe illnesses. Otherwise the human race would never have survived.

ibe not had it, neither have my immediate family.

singleone · 21/11/2022 16:26

I thought I was immune after numerous exposures and no PPE in fact I had just had a conversation about being immune and 2days later I got a positive test.
I only tested for work and wasn't particularly unwell with it, maybe slightly more tired but if testing wasn't compulsory I wouldn't have known.
I think a lot of people have had it but been unaware

I'm O ! So this makes sense .

DH and I are both O, and haven't had it, that we know. However, both DD's also O's, have both had it, one has had it twice, and one once.

Reservoirbogs · 21/11/2022 16:33

Similar here. Loads of exposure throughout pandemic and had it in the household 3 times, still never got it. Not vaccinated. Am blood type O negative. I think pre exisiting immunity is the main reason though.

OneFrenchEgg · 21/11/2022 16:53

0- blood type never had it, tested 2 x week for majority of pandemic, test randomly now for work. Two kids never had it, two have plus dh. One kid only found out via testing as felt fine.

Scarecrowrowboat · 21/11/2022 16:56

I'm O. Never had it and have had to test regularly for work as I'm in close contact with patients. Have had my 4 jabs, the 4th jab made me really unwell for a week. DH had it early on. Only my kids and my mum haven't had it of everyone I know.

2022again · 25/11/2022 14:37

3 out of the 4 in my household have never had it (& we didnt isolate from the one who did have it as it presented as hayfever symptoms initially)but as we haven't needed to test constantly i'm sure we must have had it at some point. Have been surprised as I normally catch anything and everything.

Suedomin · 25/11/2022 14:40

I have never had it (yet) I am type O+. And take vitamin D every day. No idea if it makes any difference.
I've also had 4 COVID jabs

squeekycheek · 13/12/2022 21:49

I'm O+ and have just got it for the first time.

TrufflesForBreakfast · 13/12/2022 21:56

Well I'm B- and despite being exposed to it several times ai seem to have so far avoided it. Except for one time I did have it but had no idea I had - I just happened to test and it came back positive.

O is the most common blood group so I'm sure if it had any correlation to blood type then we wouldn't have had a pandemic.

I put mine down to luck and vitamin D.

I'll probably catch it really badly now. Grin

Newwardrobe · 13/12/2022 21:57

My dd and I are the only ones in our whole family, (uncles, aunts, nieces, grandparents,) that haven't caught covid. I'm blood group O.

snowinthesticks · 13/12/2022 22:00

Two people I know had decided they had super powers. One a nurse on frontline since early 2020 and the other a teacher. Both got covid in the last two weeks. One has been really poorly the other very mild.

Still haven't caught it let's see if I catch it this winter.

I am O and I thought I might be immune but I have finally caught it, after several pervious bouts in the household. I think this time I unfortunately was in a car on a longish journey with DH at the point where he was most contagious. Ditto dd, who also caught it for the first time. These newest variants are easier to catch too. I am triple jabbed but I haven’t had the latest booster, perhaps that made a difference too ? Although DH it early on in the pandemic and I didn’t catch it then.
I have one friend who as far as she knows has not had it yet.

vodkaredbullgirl · 14/12/2022 09:02

I thought I was invincible until the other week. No symptoms at all but tested positive. Only knew I had it because we had an outbreak at work (care home) and had to test. Felt fine but still worked, I just stayed away from the ones who didn't have it.

Whatevergetsyouthroughthenight · 14/12/2022 09:04

@Peedoffo if you are immune, can you please pop round and make me a cuppa?

Akite · 14/12/2022 09:09

O is the most common blood group so it makes sense that most of the people who haven't had covid will have O blood - but also most of the people who HAVE had covid will have group O as well.
my DS has never had it and we joke about him being tested I. Labs because he has a superpower. The rest of the household have had it multiple times. Every one of his friends has had it at least once. We were all testing twice a week during the school terms when it was rife in his year group so it's not like he had it and didn't know. Never even a hint of it!
but then a friend also thought she was immune and came down with it 2 weeks ago so it's just one of those things.

Peedoffo · 14/12/2022 10:21

I'm not sure if I caught it at the very start before the mass testing or it was a very similar virus this was in February 2020. I had pleurisy and some nasty cough thing. Never had a wiff really of COVID since them so I'm wondering if my immune system quickly clears it.
