Immune to COVID?

Peedoffo · 21/11/2022 11:51

I have had multiple exposures to COVID , I've nursed people with COVID throughout the pandemic. I never caught it despite working in different wards constantly I always tested negative. We have had household COVID I cuddled DD and held her ,still tested negative. Are some people naturally immune to it ?

Just out of interest -those of you who have never had it-what are your blood types?

I haven't had it either and everyone else in my household has.
I am O and have read that O are less likely to get/get severely?

A negative (sorry! )
Of course, I could have had it 10 times and been asymptomatic!

@Akite's point is also valid. The anti-vaxxers used to enjoy pointing out that, at certain stages, more vaccinated people had Covid than non-vaccinated. Well d'oh. Of course there would be- if 5% of the population have Covid and 98% are vaccinated then it's obvious that more of the 5% are going to be in the 98%.(invented figures for demo purposes!)

Dh is 0+ and has had Covid. DD is O- and hasn't.

It's just random really.

There are definitely people who cannot get COVID. The best example I have is people who participated in challenge trials who were deliberately exposed both to COVID-positive people and even medically exposed (ie had their nasal tissues swabbed with SARS-COV-2) and they still didn't test positive or have symptoms.

So far I haven't tested positive and its been through my family once, DD (aged 2) even licked my face while COVID-positive and nothing happened. This said, i'm still somewhat cautious when out and about.

Family have all had it at least twice, I’ve not (that I know of, lots of people are asymptomatic)

Theraffarian · 14/12/2022 10:48

Myself husband and two adult children haven’t had it . Husband took part in antibody testing so we knew he hadn’t had asymptotic version, daughters partner caught it but not her , in her household . I worked all through lockdown meeting with numerous people each week and helped with covid testing at my place of work and have been in contact with a lot of positive cases over the last couple of years . Fairly constant testing for me for majority of the time , so would be surprised if it snuck through undetected. Still test if unwell and as yet no sign of it.

However I’m not convinced we are immune , just lucky . I’m currently working with people who have caught it for the first time over the last few weeks , so I’m still expecting to get it at some point .

I thought I was super immune having worked in healthcare for the whole pandemic including with quite a lot of positive patients (I am O-). I caught covid in September and have been exceptionally poorly and still not better.

Worldgonecrazy · 14/12/2022 11:10

Still not had it in our family.

Never get the flu either.

ItsGotMe · 14/12/2022 12:13

Well I could have joined in on this till this morning. Partner and DS got it Summer 2020, DD and I living in same small terraced house didn't. DD finally got it 2 months ago but I didn't. I've had 3 jabs and recently declined my 4th and just had the flu jab. Yesterday had a grumbling, low-level headache that I woke up with and went to work but couldn't get warm, felt shivery and out of sorts/sleepy. Had some tests in house so tested and it pinged up solid and bright immediately. So used to seeing nothing that I was genuinely shocked.

I've just started a new job in the past month and feel such a flake phoning in sick. I'm public facing and interacting so it wouldn't be fair to spread this around before Christmas. I'm feeling achey (hips, small of back, knees) and feeling the need to cough up stuff that feels slightly hot and acidy from my lungs - no actual cough though - but definitely a chesty feeling. Just taken temperature and it's 37.3 - I usually am about 36 so it's slightly elevated for me but not exactly a fever. Still have woolly headache that paracetamol isn't shifting. Am just going to get back under my duvet and sleep and hope I shake it off quickly.

Blood type A negative.

Akite · 14/12/2022 12:53

Hope you feel better soon @ItsGotMe , I had it for the first time within 2 weeks of starting a new job too!

Probably best not to take medical advice from random strangers on the internet, but I remember one of the participants in the challenge trial who didn't get COVID saying exactly this. ie there may be some cross-resistance going on.

Desiredeffect · 22/12/2022 05:57

I never had it until tested positive on Saturday despite working in care and the amount of times I cared for residents with covid and never got it

TopBitchoftheWitches · 22/12/2022 06:39

I'm on care work too, been around a su with covid four times this week, one of them when they were ill but we didn't know it was covid. Not the first time this has happened this year either. If I don't get it now I really do think I must be immune as never had it even when both my daughters did and it was in the house.

gogohmm · 22/12/2022 07:37

Me ... im fully vaccinated too but seem unable to catch it though I had loss of taste and smell (no fever or cough) in 2020 before testing

megletthesecond · 22/12/2022 19:37

Still not had it so far 🤞 and avoided it when my teen DC's had it. Tested regularly and will test this weekend before seeing family.
I've had four jabs without side effects. Type O blood. I am healthy and being careful though, wear masks in supermarket and communal areas at work. Only had flu once in my life.

But I had a full house of covid symptoms in Nov/Dec 19 so who knows.

That is interesting.

DD worked as frontline NHS through the pandemic and only caught it for the first time this summer. She’s O. She caught it she thinks from a woman coughing everywhere on a plane back from Portugal.

RoseAndRose · 25/12/2022 07:03

You may well have had an asymptomatic case early on, and got a good level of immunity from that.

amylou8 · 25/12/2022 07:15

Pretty sure I've never had it, and have hardly been cautious. O+
