Plantar facilitis Flare up (Covid)

girlfriend44 · 28/10/2022 14:33

Since ive had my jabs over the last 18 months or so I have had a flare up of Plantar Facilitis. AIBU to think it might be a side effect of the Vaccine.

Based on what you have put here yes. Unless you have something more than just being in the same 18 month window - bearing in mind it is a flare which indicates you've had it before at a time unconnected with your vaccines.

I'm assuming this is either goady or reverse?

LimitIsUp · 28/10/2022 16:46

Yes, the two are unconnected. Just get some insoles for your shoes and don't go barefoot in the house

DoraSpenlow · 28/10/2022 16:53

I don't know about the vaccine but since having Covid a lady in our walking group has had terribly painful feet and can't manage the walks at the moment.

PAFMO · 29/10/2022 08:14

My PF flares up at various times. If I don't exercise, if I sit still for too long.
One of my colleagues has had to ask not to be sent on trips with our kids anymore though as since having Covid she finds it difficult to walk long distances and her right ankle has become particularly weakened.

KangarooKenny · 29/10/2022 08:16

No, it’s not connected. I sense a troll.

AuntieStella · 29/10/2022 08:20

This is interesting.

No connection to jabs, but after I had actual covid I had muscular skeletal aches (known covid effect) particularly around site of an old injury, and some mild symptoms of plantar fascitis

In fairness I AS'd.
One post saying vaccine= good
One post saying "should I have 4th vaccine"
And this one.

i have had PF some years ago. Its flared up recently. I wondered if anything to do with the jabs i had for Covid. Never had Covid? Why is that goady?

Read the F thread.
It wasn't me who called you a troll. It was me who said you weren't one.

That's a very strange recommendation for PF. The opposite is the standard treatment. The less you exercise the affected foot, the longer it will take to heal.

MontagueLeo · 29/10/2022 19:12

Have you put on any weight in the last 18 months? Excess weight is well recognised to make plantar fasciitis worse

RaininSummer · 29/10/2022 19:21

Mine flared up 18 months ago but I don't think it's anything to do with the jabs. I started walking to work again after a year of working at the kitchen table and that set it off. Could it be something like that?

Decafflatteplease · 29/10/2022 19:26

Not to do with jabs but I have this and my podiatrist said it's more common recently with covid etc as people are at home more and generally going barefoot more in the house and being out of a routine of wearing proper shoes, makes sense in a way. So a side effect of covid but not actually covid if that makes sense

FinallyHere · 29/10/2022 21:12

If you really want to get rid of plantar fasciitis, Katy Bowman has everything you need to know. All the best

I was told no sport. Is that correct do you think?

DS has stubborn PF. The only likely connection with Covid is from the lengthy walks we did in lockdown and the on/ off impact of restrictions on his sporting activities- he struggled a lot with cramps when he returned after restrictions were lifted. It turns out that he thought it was normal that his feet hurt on long walks back in 2020 and it was very inflamed before he really spoke up about it a year ago, at the point that he could barely put weight on it.

He's been seeing an osteopath and stretching and using the muscles of the foot are important (but low impact, not jumping/ running) but also stretching the muscles at the back of the leg, calves and hamstrings. Letting those muscles go tight and weak won't help.

Weight's definitely not a factor in his case as he has a very light, athletic build.

Footwear varies a lot from person to person.
Ice can reduce inflamation. Rolling a frozen bottle of water massages and cools simultaneously.

It's a stubborn, miserable condition.

Ballet dancers get it as they are always on their feet. Can't be due to weight.
I've given up all sport on advice which is horrible and affects your mental health.

I am using the ball on my foot.

I had shockwave therapy for my pf. I was sceptical but it actually worked

wetpebbles · 01/11/2022 17:45

I am in the a similar situation and also connect to booster

twitchwitch · 01/11/2022 21:56

@AuntieStella

How long did this go on for? I've really been struggling with muscle/joint pain since having COVID about 9 moths ago. It's not getting any better & I'm on a waiting list for a referral. Interesting to hear others have experienced similar

Hullofromtheotherside · 01/11/2022 22:04

I had body aches May last year when the Zoe app said people with covid were having aches but no positive test. I was left with pf in one foot. I have a sticky bandage to give tension, an insole and advised to do calf stretches and stand on my toes 3 times a day
