Side effects of Moderna booster jab.

Tolkienista · 23/10/2022 10:30

Had my Moderna booster jab on Friday 21st at 11am. Developed a sore arm as the day developed, which was fine. By 8pm felt decidedly shivery/shaky and unwell. Took a couple of paracetamol had an early night, but slept really badly.

By yesterday felt a little better, but extremely tired and light headed. Slept much better last night.

However I've woken this morning and once again feel light headed and dizzy with very little energy. Felt bad with my first three vaccines, but don't think it went into a third day.

Anyone else feeling similar? I've been taking paracetamol as advised and resting, but what do others feel?
Thanks.

First 2 vaccinations were Astra Zeneca and felt dreadful both times, 3rd was Pfizer felt a bit unwell, booster was Moderna and just had sore arm for a few days. I think it is the luck of the draw if you have a reaction or not.

F

StarbucksSmarterSister · 23/10/2022 10:43

F indeed!

AZ- felt fluey for 24 hours
Pfizer ( twice) felt fine
Moderna - ached all over for 2 days, felt like I'd been hit by a truck.

MumOfNowGrownupKids · 23/10/2022 10:49

Sore arm and stiff neck for about 24 hours.

KnickerlessParsons · 23/10/2022 11:01

It's about time people realised that some vaccinations, for anything, cause side effects in some people and other people don't react at all.

When people have a flu vaccine, or a tetanus vaccine, or hep A, yellow fever, typhoid, whatever, no one asks who the manufacturer is.
Why the fixation on Covid vax manufacturers?

PeekabooAtTheZoo · 23/10/2022 11:03

Mine was totally fine. No side effects at all.

Jelly4444 · 23/10/2022 11:05

First Pfizer - felt absolutely fine

Second Pfizer - very tired and a bit off

Third Moderna - sick for 2 full days.
Aching, bad headache and exhausted 😪

Perhaps because it’s brand new.

AnyRandomName · 23/10/2022 11:07

The Moderna vaccine made me feel so desperately unwell.

I collapsed the next day in the shower, couldn't see, couldn't stand, full body teeth chattering shivers. I'd had a milder but not great reaction to the AZ, and when I had covid I had a worse reaction than family members. So I think I'm just more susceptible.

The Moderna was so bad that I won't have another booster. Covid was much less worse than the Moderna jab.

KnickerlessParsons · 23/10/2022 11:09

Not so new now. And would you know if your Hep A vaccine was a new one? Or your tetanus? Or anything else? No you wouldn't.

Agree.

Fully vax'd and never felt anything either at the time or afterwards.
Millions of there things are being used and it is understandable that some people will react differently to others.
Even if I had suffered some kind of reaction I would still opt to be vax'd.

Whiteminnowfish · 23/10/2022 11:12

I felt the same as you with my first Modern vaccine. In addition to the symptoms you have experienced I had bad vertigo and could barely climb the stairs without being out of breath.

I took some Ibuprofen and then felt fine pretty quick

MulberryMoon · 23/10/2022 11:13

I felt a little unwell for 2 days after it but fine by the 3rd day. Glad I had it. Was fine with pfizer and 2nd AZ previously. 1st AZ I felt unwell for a day. (More unwell than with moderna

AutumnCrow · 23/10/2022 11:16

I had Moderna for my 5th vaccination and unfortunately it did knock me out for a week, but as pp have said, everyone is different.

I recently had a 6th Pfizer jab (the new bi booster) and was fine. DP had it as his 4th I think, and felt shit for days.

IncessantNameChanger · 23/10/2022 11:16

It's enough of a reason to talk about. My side effects of AZ landed me in hospital for 5 days. I then had my second dose and a booster but weighing everything up a fourth vaccine isn't worth the side effects for me. I have had covid pre and post my first vaccine. I spread it post vaccine too.

If you don't have side effects that's great, but if your one of those people who has worse side effects than your symptoms of covid its worth talking about it. Eg for me I'm not will to take another AZ for another stroke like episode. If no one had mentioned AZ and blood clots with that brand, would it have better for me?

Not so new now. And would you know if your Hep A vaccine was a new one? Or your tetanus? Or anything else? No you wouldn't.

mRNA vaccines are a totally new way of making a vaccine & the 4th booster is an even newer type as it targets two strains of Covid.

For me, even if the booster has side effects, they are usually far less than having CV.

IntentionalError · 23/10/2022 11:18

I had a Moderna booster last weekend. The only side effect was a slightly sore arm. The flu jab I had last month was worse, it made me feel under the weather for a couple of days.

mydogisthebest · 23/10/2022 11:18

First two jabs were AZ. Absolutely fine, no side effects whatsoever.

Third was Moderna. Had 2 days of aching, really really tired, feeling sick, splitting headache.

Fourth was Moderna. Even worse side effects. Felt almost like flu, aching, shivering, temperature, so tired it was untrue. Plus I could not even keep water down.

DH has been the same although his side effects have not been quite as bad and he wasn't sick (lucky him)

MintJulia · 23/10/2022 11:26

First AstraZeneca - no problem
2nd Astra Zeneca - bad reaction, unconscious, needing an ambulance
Pfizer - no problem
Moderna - such a bad reaction I've taken decision to not have any more.

I've had four jabs, I work full time, go on public transport, live with a teenager so I must have been exposed at some point but have never tested positive.

I'm not overweight or over 60. After this last reaction, balancing the risks personally for me, I've decided I'll take my chances with Covid.

Tolkienista · 23/10/2022 11:42

Thanks for all your posts, really interesting reading through them. It helps enormously to read through your experiences, as most of my relatives who've had the Moderna vaccine haven't had any issues at all.

Thankfully, I'm not alone.

Because AZ - no after effects at all

2 out 3 Moderna- absolutely floored. It's now getting on for 60 hours since my booster - my arm is throbbing, painful and itching. I feel as if I've been rolling in nettles but I can't take any more paracetamol. Sunday was a complete write off. Have to be at work tomorrow and feel terrible.

I'm over 60 but otherwise no particular issues-I've been on planes , trains and trams, lots of cinema and theatres.

I think if I'm offered Moderna- again I won't take it. I've had awful reactions to it.

Vates · 25/10/2022 07:13

My first three jabs were Pfizer and booster was Moderna (had that one on the 12th October). Sore arm with all (just for a couple of days) but no other side effects.

Wetcappuccino · 25/10/2022 07:18

I had AZ the first couple of times with no side effects. I had Moderna the next time and had the side effects others have described - shivers/ fatigue/ light headedness. For my most recent booster I had Moderna again (full dose) and was expecting side effects. However, none this time. The nurse who administered it said it had been updated for the new variants. She suggested that side effects vary and sometimes you can build up a bit of tolerance. Certainly wouldn’t put me off getting it.

Mindymomo · 25/10/2022 07:25

My DH had the new Moderna vaccine, he had sore arm, headache and couldn’t eat dinner that day as he felt sick. Next day much better, all symptoms gone by third day. I had the new Pfizer vaccine and had exact same symptoms.
