How is covid presenting itself now?

Just wondering how covid is presenting itself.

I went on a cruise holiday and it was OK but I wasn't happy with what I observed.

There were many people coughing and it was productive and looked as if it was coming from the chest.

I was on a tour bus and there was cough after cough from people.

A few days after that, I felt like I was starting a cold. Then I developed a cough. By evening I found a fever over 38. It was slow to respond to paracetamol. My cough was coming from my chest. I never once had a cold move into my chest so quickly.

I am up and down in feeling well and then I am getting caught up in my chest at times and the fever is up and down and the temp remains high. I took define this morning and it responded to that.

Just wondering if covid is starting off in the chest now.

There was so much bad manners on that cruise ship. It was awful.

I started with lower back pain and a cough this time, felt like it moved to my chest quickly, quite phlegmy then cleared after a few days and moved onto full blown streaming cold symptoms. I hope you feel better soon.

Rockschooldropout · 14/10/2022 14:13

started with sore sinuses and raw feeling throat quickly followed by chesty sounding cough .. tested negative all week before getting a full blown positive this morning ..

AceofPentacles · 14/10/2022 14:19

I had upper abdo pain and the runs then 2 days later sore throat and heavy cold started. Lost taste and smell for 5 days.

Poppiesway1 · 14/10/2022 14:25

@Viewofthesea I’m day 2, and symptoms are exactly as you describe. coughed all night, sore throat in the morning (I tested as work nhs) it was negative, assumed it was start of a cold.. went to work started to feel really warm and cough / sore throat got worse.. tested negative again that evening.. overnight felt even worse and tested again 1st thing… positive! Red Covid positive line before it even got up to the test strip..

AnnapurnaSanctuary · 14/10/2022 14:26

My PILs both have it at the moment (for the first time). Mainly a cough, sore throat, feeling tired etc.

AriettyHomily · 14/10/2022 14:43

It presents differently in everyone. You might have it, you might not. Either way a cruise ship is likely a place to pick something up!

Pixiedust1234 · 14/10/2022 14:47

Its all different.

DD had a horrendous 4 day migraine before going freezing cold but sweating. I went straight in with flu symptoms of freezing cold, intense muscular pain, feeling like death and nausea. Neither showed positive until day 4

bigbluebus · 14/10/2022 14:50

A friend picked up covid on a cruise. It's the 3rd cruise they've been on since Covid but the 1st one since the testing requirements were dropped by P&O. Guess which cruise they caught covid on!
Started with generally feeling tired and unwell 2 days before the end of the cruise then developed into a sore throat and cough.

Viewofthesea · 14/10/2022 15:10

I had covid in July. I know you can get it multiple times.

I think this might be covid. I never had a cold go to my chest quickly. The fact that I have a stubborn fever too. The thing is it's not showing on tests.

I'm due to travel home but I am not 100%. I cannot afford to stay overnight.

I'm drinking plenty of fluids.

I was a bit snuffly, lost my voice, face hurt and muffled hearing but this is normal for me as my sinuses need no excuse to act up. Then started feeling cold, very bunged up and grotty. I only cough occasionally but it's productive. No headache.

I was testing negative till yesterday which was the day I've felt worst. I genuinely thought it was a cold, I've never had covid before and for some reason expected it to be blindingly obvious. I wouldn't have known if I hadn't been testing.

CrocodilesCry · 14/10/2022 20:15

I had no cold or real cough symptoms. I was achy and tired but couldn't sleep, felt generally rubbish, very dizzy.
I'm asthmatic and I've only developed a slight cough in the past couple of days since testing negative, but only very slight. DP had it before me and had a vey bad head cold, headache and cough. He gave it to me so just shows how different it can be.

FishFingerSandwiches4Tea · 14/10/2022 22:53

I had it last week (second time). No cold symptoms, first sign was chills but when checked temperature actually had a fever. Then lower back pain which moved to my thighs, followed by a painfully dry (but not sore) throat. Other than that just tired. Definitely not as bad as the first time. No loss of taste/smell this time either.

Jenasaurus · 15/10/2022 00:47

started with itchy sore throat and sneezing on Wednesday, as there is covid in my household I tested and was negative, on Thursday lost my sense of smell and taste and felt tired and hard to think straight, tested again, strong positive, slept all day Friday, just tested again and its a very faint positive and I feel much better. I didnt have a cough or any chest issues.

My DDs boyfriend who lives here, had it and has been very unwell with a continuous cough for 10 days and still coughing away.

In context, I am 57, fat and diabetic, but have lost 3 stone and controlled my sugar levels, had 4 vaccines whereas he is 22 very sporty and fit and had just 2 vaccines, not sure if relevant but our symptoms are very different. Mine was so mild I wouldnt have tested except he had it, and I was meant to be meeting someone who was receiving cancer treatment at the weekend. I actually wonder if I could have had it before and dismissed it as a cold

I think tiredness is a common feature as that's the one thing I did notice, and allowed myself to sleep as long as I needed, turned off my phone and drank a lot of water. I hope i haven't tempted fate and it's just having a break before attacking with another host of symptoms

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 15/10/2022 00:52

I know three couples who have cruised recently and they've all come back with Covid.

Hope you feel better soon 💐

We just regrettably cancelled our booking for an upcoming Princess cruise in January 2023. We were all looking forward to it after a fantastic time in January 2020 on the Ruby Princess! However, with Covid-19 and the recent very ordinary reviews for 2022 cruises I cancelled.
We travelled regularly in Australia over 2020-2022 period whenever lockdowns ended, mostly flying interstate and staying in hotels and never had a problem with catching Covid-19. However, I imagine a cruise ship environment would have higher rate of infection.

Viewofthesea · 15/10/2022 04:41

I wouldn't be surprised if I end up with a list of illnesses.m from the cruise holiday. A cold and covid altogether. The manners were throughly awful on board from many other passengers.

How long is it taking people to test positive on a home test?

OP posts:
CelesteM · 15/10/2022 04:52

That sounds terrible! I hope you recover quickly if you did catch it, it normally shows up anywhere from 3-10 days after being infected. The telling signs are that itchy dry throat, runny nose and fatigue.
A good friend who use to be a regular cruiser said that on her recent cruise they had staff shortages and the food was nowhere near as good as pre covid days! Had to wait up to 2 hours for room service, long lines a meal times etc.

Jewel1968 · 15/10/2022 09:43

I have it since wed. Tickle in throat that was very irritating - not sore exactly but lozenges help. Chesty cough. I have asthma but breathing seems ok. Bit if temp. Not very sleepy - wish I was able to sleep.

Has anyone had chest pain. Feels muscular. Had it before COVID symptoms and thought I had pulled it swimming. It comes and goes.

AgapanthusandAcers · 15/10/2022 09:55

Had it a month ago and I still have a cough.. I felt odd. Sore throat but but burning sore. I ached all over and had a hellish headache. Went to bed and shivered violently all night. Temperature of 39°. I was exhausted and my sense of taste and smell were seriously dulled. It was not pleasant but I caught a cold 10 days later and that proper floored me as I was still recovering from covid.

Kcc73 · 15/10/2022 10:02

Tested positive today but symptoms started yesterday. First 'official' positive to covid but both my teens had it earlier this year, at different times (Feb & April) and neither dh or me got it. But have had several sore throat/cold viruses, the last just about 3 weeks ago.

This started with sore throat when I woke yesterday, but it was more of a sore throat feeling moving now to chest - I was a little croaky.
Feeling achy/headache by evening and developed bad spell when lower back felt in agony (this really odd but I had read it as a symptoms). Heat and painkillers and I managed to get some sleep but woke in night very hot and had temp 38 (and I never get a temp - well can't remember last time)

Today coughing. Pounding headache. Runny nose.

Hope this worse it gets. Not too bad.

skyeisthelimit · 15/10/2022 13:05

I had a bad sore throat on Tuesday night, felt rough Weds morning so tested and it came up positive almost instantly.

I haven't had a temperature, but have had a horrendous sore throat, headache, woolly head, runny nose, slightly breathless, and last night developed a rash with lots of white pimples, across my back and torso.

I don't feel too bad so am doing a bit of work at home but haven't left the house and won't until I test clear.

I am CEV and was a shielder in the lockdown (Type 2 Diabetes and overweight), but wasn't entitled to the last jab as they restricted it to a very specific group, so have been worried about catching it , so am very happy that it is so mild.

Ironically I caught it the day I was due my winter booster, so now can't have that for 28 days

ecnatsid · 15/10/2022 16:06

Heavy cold.

Started with tiredness, scratchy throat and tingles on my tongue?

Developed into chesty cough, achey, tired, blocked nose, lost taste.

No temperature, just feeling very very rubbish

CrushingAndClueless · 16/10/2022 10:54

When I had it earlier this year I only had slight muscles aches for about 1-2 days but was otherwise asymptomatic.

I got Covid again last week and it affected
me so much worse. It started off with a headache and just feeling a bit drained and then 24 hours the sore throat and cough started up - which is what made me take a test.

I was bed bound for about 2-3 days as I felt so unwell with my headache and my throat and I just had no energy. If I did anything for more than 10 minutes, I.e doing the washing up, I would feel really breathless and have to go and lie down again.

The cough was annoying but it wasn’t chesty or productive. It was just really weak and tickly and constant.

It was probably only about a week after the onset of my symptoms that I started to feel myself again.

Neither my husband or two children caught it from me despite being so unwell. Yet when I had Covid in March I gave it to all three of them despite having no symptoms myself.

It’s a very strange virus.
