Do people still test for a cold?

saffy56 · 01/09/2022 11:10

Do people still test for a cold/sore throat? My DD has a cold and sore throat and we have no tests left. She wants to carry on as normal but my DH says she mustn't leave the house until she has tested negative. I didn't actually think testing was still a thing.

Yes, still testing. It’s about £10 for a pack of 5 tests.

MissingNashville · 02/09/2022 00:15

I test before seeing a vulnerable friend, that’s at least once a week, sometimes twice. And I’d test if I had symptoms but I rarely get ill.

RedRec · 01/09/2022 11:18

I had a 'cold' just like that last week. Tested negative one day then positive for the next six. Testing is / should be still a thing.

Why though? You don't need to isolate

jesusjoan · 02/09/2022 00:43

Whether or not we need to isolate is irrelevant. It's about protecting those around you that may be vulnerable. That's "why".

Justsleep · 02/09/2022 00:45

No, can’t afford to buy tests.

There’s a reason it’s called the scamdemic. Plenty of people making a whole lot of money out of this.

I doubt any of the poor souls on this thread are.

Not testing anymore

Our doctors has just removed the need for a mask - so none of the staff I saw this morning had a mask, blood test lady didn't have a mask, none of the patients...

I really think things have moved on.

Marchmount · 02/09/2022 10:21

Didn’t realise anyone still tested. Do people really still isolate for Covid?

mynameischloe · 02/09/2022 10:24

DD has woken up with a cold this morning. Didn't even cross my mind to test her. We don't have any tests and I'm not buying any either. Life as usual here.

PeloDramatic · 02/09/2022 10:27

Yes as I get free tests, and people also test before seeing me (partner, dad, etc)

VirtualSquid · 02/09/2022 12:30

I tested as I had cold symptoms, had tests left over and husband due to go to hospital next week.

Registered the result and had a text message with a code for the NHS covid app. It's not something I've ever used, but didn't realise it was still in use at all

Nimo12 · 02/09/2022 12:35

Yes because I'd want to know if I had it so I could avoid vulnerable people/mask up etc. Was pretty convinced I just had a sinus infection a month or so ago until I tested. I don't get why people wouldn't! Testing and doing the right thing isn't "letting it rule your life". What a ridiculous thing to say.

SallyWD · 02/09/2022 12:41

Covid feels like a cold so of course I rest if I have cold symptoms.

Abraxan · 02/09/2022 12:42

I test as I need to know before I start to become ill- I'm vulnerable and eligible for anti viral treatment. It made a big difference last time but needs to be taken before covid kicks in proper, within the first five days.

Dh tests if feeling ill , partly because of me and partly because he has to go and see very vulnerable and/or elderly clients.

Abraxan · 02/09/2022 12:43

I can access free tests due to health complications so no cost.

PainsandAches · 01/09/2022 11:27

Of course

Decent people will continue to test

😂😂

This. Life has moved on for many people.

If people want to live in the past and stick cotton buds up their noses forever more that's upto them!

Comefromaway · 02/09/2022 12:50

No, I had a sore throat, cough and cold a couple of weeks ago. It lasted about 3 days then went.

£10 many people just don't have at the moment especially after covid rules absolutely obliterated peoples livelihoods and income.

I won't be spending any money on silly tests.

Because most people aren't inconsiderate and actually care about not spreading the virus onto others and the vunerable.

How dare those visiting vunerable people or those that are vunerable themselves want to be kept safe.

ApolloandDaphne · 02/09/2022 13:00

My DH had cold symptoms when we were on holiday last week but he wasn't feeling too unwell so we just enjoyed our holiday. He tested when he got back and it was positive so he has worked from home since then which suited him anyway. It is probably lucky we were on a remote Scottish island for our holiday and barely saw another soul!

If we hadn't had any tests at home he wouldn't have bothered testing and we would never have known. I suspect people will soon run out of tests and more people will just have a 'cold' which is actually Covid. This is the way out has to go.

KassandraOfSparta · 02/09/2022 13:08

You test ALL you like. 5 times a day if you want to. But don't pass judgement on those who are choosing not to.
