Were your symptoms the same each time?

I'm about day 5 of second covid - I somehow thought it wouldn't be as bad but I feel rank

OP posts:
Charlieandlola · 31/08/2022 16:10

I had a 12 day fever on Covid 1 ( pre vaccine) and no cold symptoms
I had a 24 hour fever on Covid 2 last month and felt dreadful with heavy cold symptoms

fatigue lasted 6 weeks plus on pre vaccine and around 10 days after negative test last month .

no breathing issues with either thankfully, nor headaches

gogohmm · 31/08/2022 16:15

I lost taste and smell first time. Only tested positive for 24 hours the second time with no symptoms

WafflesOrIceCream · 31/08/2022 16:18

First time I caught it,I was wiped out and in bed for days.Second time I was just tired.

MrsAvocet · 31/08/2022 16:18

I had delta first time, with most of the classic symptoms- swinging fever, cough complete loss of taste and smell (which have never completely returned) muscle aches and absolute exhaustion. I didn't get out of bed other than to the bathroom for a good week and felt rough for a few months.
Second time I presume was omicron and it was more like a heavy cold though i still felt pretty bad for about 5 or 6 days.It was nowhere near as bad as first time, but not the trivial thing lots of people were dismissing it as at the time.
Hope you feel better soon.

AlienatedChildGrown · 31/08/2022 16:26

Both times (August 2020, June 2022) I had a weird sore throat. Not too terrible, but oddly annoying.

The rest was much the same with the fatigue and dizziness being the worst both time. But the second time was waaaaaaaay shorter. 1st time it took me 8 months to recover and I ended up under obs in ER I was so ill. They shoved me in a scanner, tiny little blood clots left little holes in my brain. This time I was back on feet in under a month, no ER, no scans, no drama.

Mossstitch · 31/08/2022 16:30

Two adult sons had it twice, said second time was milder than first. One son was more ill inbetween his two cases of covid with a moderna vax and never went back for second dose🤷 I fortunately didn't get it a second time from either of them but did go in their bedrooms like this😷😂

Xiaoxiong · 31/08/2022 16:33

I feel like there are so many different "covids" with the different variants, it's hard to even believe they are all the same illness though I know they are. I am pretty sure I had it in March 2020, felt like a stinking spring cold with a lingering cough and shortness of breath - then had it in March 2022 and it barely even registered as an illness. Friends getting it since June seem to be much more unwell (though not to the point of going to hospital), many with D&V and high fevers.

Remember with omicron, people were saying "oh I feel fine, why do I have to quarantine" after 3 days but being forced to quarantine longer - all that about "testing out of quarantine early". Whereas now there is no quarantine at all but people getting covid now seem to still be sick long after the old quarantine period would have ended.

Ganymedemoon · 31/08/2022 16:37

Yes had covid twice, first was at the start of pandemic, so the original variant. Was pretty mild tbh, just typical viral symptoms. Then had omricon last January, again mild, but this time I had a dry cough and was followed by shortness of breath after for a few weeks.

It's hard to compare as different variants are presenting differently. But also it may be pre and post vaccinations so you have some level of immunity as if you have had it more than once.

Forgetaboutme · 31/08/2022 16:38

I got it more intense the first time but it seems to be less intense but far more prolonged now the second time. Exactly same symptoms though.

Tilda77 · 31/08/2022 16:46

I had delta variant in August 2021. A month after second jab. Felt a bit rough. Lost all taste and smell for a few days. Wasn't allowed to go in to work but felt ok enough to work. Had Omicron in March 2022. 4 months after booster. Was ok for 3 to 4 days but then felt awful. Breathless and had a low oxygen level for 2 to 3 days. Definitely worse the second time.

GG1986 · 31/08/2022 16:55

First time - scratchy throat, cough, phlegm, achy, fever for 1 night, lost appetite, lost smell and taste for 4 days, insomnia, bad tummy.
Second time - scratchy throat, tickly cough, sneezing

Jules912 · 31/08/2022 18:48

Had it in March and had 2 days of awful cough, then feeling like I'd been hit like a truck on day 3, took a week before I could do more than sit on the sofa.
Second time seems a lot milder with a tickly throat and runny nose but only on day 1. DS had a fever and cold symptoms for the last 2 days so thought I had whatever he's got ( realise this may well be Covid and the test just isn't picking it up) until I tested.

Cas112 · 31/08/2022 20:27

First time, loss of taste and smell

Second time, zero symptoms

Itsunlovelyinthegarden · 31/08/2022 21:02

First time, high temperature, fatigue, shortness of breath. Took a good few months to recover.

Second time ended up in hospital for a fortnight. Took over 3 months to get over fatigue etc and still have issues with my sense of taste and smell.

sheeplikessleep · 01/09/2022 15:48

First time January 2022, shivers, temp, back and headache and cough. Took 11 days to get a negative.

Im currently on day 5 and got a negative today after not testing since Saturday. I’ve had a cough and lethargic but nowhere near as back as January.

BogRollBOGOF · 03/09/2022 11:03

Christmas 2021: scratchy throat.
Ran parkrun on my first day of release.

July 2022: fairly standard cold with an annoying nasal drip. It was easier to sleep sitting up.

Buzzinwithbez · 03/09/2022 11:23

I suspect I had it Dec 2019 but obviously can't prove it. That was by far the worst. In and out of bed for 5 weeks. Kidney pain, cough that kept returning. Could have been flu I suppose.

Then ?? Sept 2021 I had 'The cold from hell'. a severe cold with no CV symptoms but then it turned out that many people I'd spent time with had CV. I tested once and was -ve so who knows.

Then first positive Dec 2021, a sinus infection and a few days of fatigue. Loss of smell which returned slowly starting ten days later. Not as bad as the child from hell.

Then positive for 24 hrs June 22 , a mild cold.

So who knows... I've had it 2,3 or 4 times. Each time milder. Or I've had it twice and nothing like as bad as the flu or cold I had previously.

Jules912 · 03/09/2022 13:56

Now on day 3 of my second time, which is when I dipped the first time, and actually seem to be feeling better apart from fatigue. I do have long Covid from the first time and the new infection seems to make that a bit worse, but managed a short walk today.

PippinStar · 03/09/2022 14:01

First time, I was triple vaccinated and got Omicron. I felt like I had been hit by a bus. Fatigue, body aches and pains, chills, sweats, loss of appetite, etc etc. Out of action for ten days. I only fully got my energy back after five months or so.

The second time, I was asymptomatic - I just picked it up on an antigen test.

Hope you feel better soon.

Ivyy · 03/09/2022 14:07

Anyone else had the B5 variant recently and been really unwell?

LT2 · 03/09/2022 14:24

Yes, pretty much. First time was very mild. I was pregnant and unvaccinated. Second time still unvaccinated, no longer pregnant. Still just as mild. Main symptoms feeling a bit achy, runny nose, sneezing.

BryceQuinlanTheFirst · 03/09/2022 14:28

Well I'm negative after 7 days, same as the first time. Felt just as horrible. Still pretty weak today and heady

OP posts:
BryceQuinlanTheFirst · 03/09/2022 14:29

Should say triple vaxed both times

OP posts:
RainBow725 · 03/09/2022 14:48

Pretty much the same both times - horrible! Aug 2021 and Aug 2022. Currently at 4 weeks and a long way from recovered. Fully vaccinated.

serenghetti2011 · 03/09/2022 14:51

First time was not great second time exactly a year later I felt awful really bad
isolated for 5 days and was negative far so quicker than I was the first Time so so tired since though
