Are people still testing

My neighbour wfh and rarely goes out and has text to say she feels achy, headache, couldn't taste food last night or this morning.

She warned me as I've CEV but she's not going to test as she feels there's no point.

I've lost track of the rules anyway as I'm still required to LFT for work but wondered what people were doing generally

Me? No. I wfh anyway and if I feel ill I can stay at home

Family? Occasionally. They sometimes work with the vulnerable and it's still necessary to test before a visit.

onelittlefrog · 17/08/2022 07:03

If I was seeing someone vulnerable then I would test. If I had symptoms then I would not leave the house without testing. But I think I'm in the minority.

BigSandyBalls2015 · 17/08/2022 07:07

Have you been near her?

ConfusedGin · 17/08/2022 07:08

I've tested today for the first time in a long time as I have an event at work with a crowd which includes known vulnerable people. And it's likely that we'll end up inside so better safe.

Otherwise no.

A family member felt ill a few weeks back. Tested and negative. Their partner tested to be safe - asymptomatic positive.

MintJulia · 17/08/2022 07:09

No, I haven't been asked to test for months, despite being post chemo and having regular hospital appointments. I had my autumn covid booster last week and wasn't asked to test for that. They just asked if I had any symptoms.

Doctor's surgeries and dentists had advice to wear masks from July 1st I think.

Overthebow · 17/08/2022 07:10

No, and I don’t know anyone who does. Free tests stopped months ago and everyone I know is getting on with normal life now and not thinking about covid. If I’m too I’ll to leave the house then I stay in, and if not then I just go about my normal life.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 17/08/2022 07:11

Not testing, I'd be expected to go into work even if positive so no point. If I was due to see someone vulnerable and had
symptoms I'd cancel rather than test.

Darkness22 · 17/08/2022 07:13

I think I have 2 tests left, I'm not going to pay for them.

Numbat2022 · 17/08/2022 07:14

We test before seeing my parents who are vulnerable, so every few weeks. Also test if I feel really unwell (i.e. fever and cold symptoms) just because I'd rather know what I've got.

Judging by the number of people I know who had Covid in the last wave in June/July, I'd say lots of people are still testing when they feel ill.

LizzieSiddal · 17/08/2022 07:14

We only test if we have several symptoms.

Nugg · 17/08/2022 07:15

@BigSandyBalls2015 nowhere near other than talking over a 5ft fence from the far side of our garden borders, so quite a way away.

We test for symptoms. Did our first asymptomatic test in ages the other day as we were visiting a house with a newborn so we tested the adults but not the kids, who were healthy.

Wherearemyspex · 17/08/2022 07:20

Yes at the moment because I'm currently suffering from a bout of a severe flu like illness and feel really ill. But, been feeling off colour for a few days before it properly hit and tested every day. All negative in spite of relevant symptoms.

Generally, though, I wouldn't test if all was well.

Dammitthisisshit · 17/08/2022 07:23

Yes. I’m CEV.

No, I haven't been asked to test for months, despite being post chemo and having regular hospital appointments.
im massively surprised by this, especially if you’re going anywhere near oncology departments. I’m to test at least twice a week during my radiotherapy appointments. I tested every time before other oncology appointments. Our hospital stopped having security on the door to check tests months ago but you’re still supposed to do it. If you’ve had chemo then you’re CV/CEV so you can get free tests still.

user1487194234 · 17/08/2022 07:30

I am definitely not testing
The only person I know who is testing is a girl at work who was one of those people who seemed to enjoy the drama, making up extra rules and who never goes out or on holiday and seemed to enjoy when nobody else could

Most days I don’t even think about Covid which is lovely

Christmasiscominghohoho · 17/08/2022 07:33

Never test now.

unless I’m going into the care home to see my Nan and then I have to do it at the door and show them before I go in.

Wetcappuccino · 17/08/2022 07:35

I test if I have symptoms or if I am exposed to Covid. I have to have antivirals if I get Covid (CEV), so I need to know if I am positive.

agedasiago · 17/08/2022 07:37

I have a stockpile of home tests, and I test if I have symptoms, not because it's legally required (I don't think it still is anywhere in the UK, but I may be wrong) but because if I feel sick and have symptoms that align with COVID, I want to know that is it COVID and I know how to act, or it's not COVID so still a mystery (and a possible serious threat to at risk people I'd be in contact with, which I could easily avoid).

Florelei · 17/08/2022 12:36

I only test if I have symptoms. I work with vulnerable people.

TheKeatingFive · 17/08/2022 12:52

I haven't tested in ages. I might if I felt properly unwell, but not for minor symptoms.

underneaththeash · 17/08/2022 13:29

I would test if I got symptoms as I I was really unwell with it in May and wouldn't want to knowingly infect anyone - especially if they were about to go on holiday.

BatshitCrazyWoman · 17/08/2022 13:37

I have a family member in a care home, and visit regularly. I have to test and show proof of negative test before I can see him. I currently have some of the free tests left over, but will have to pay for them when they run out.

Pootle40 · 17/08/2022 14:20

I haven't tested in 2022.

fuckfuckfuck2021 · 17/08/2022 14:26

I tested positive last week for covid I had been on holiday in a popular holiday park in the U.K. and had what felt like a massive hangover on the last day there, this lasted for for 3 days. I tested on the second day as I had the aches and shivers and a horrible headache. I knew I didn't have a hangover but that's how I would describe it. My cold and cough symptoms didn't start till 5 days after I tested positive I tested negative on that day. If I had waited to test till I had developed the cough I would have thought I didn't have it. The only reason I tested was because I was worried I had picked it up and that I would pass it on to other people and had some tests left. I have no tests left now and will not be buying them.

Jules912 · 17/08/2022 14:35

I do, but only when I'm really ill or seeing someone CEV.
