Anyone that's had Omicron twice, how was your latest infection?

Those who have had Covid twice (or more) since Christmas... what was your latest infection like? Milder? Shorter in duration? Do you think you gained and immunity from the first time?

Onto my second since Xmas and it’s a BREEZE. Just a cold.

ColettesEarrings · 21/07/2022 08:57

My best friend had it in Feb and it was a bad cold for a few days. She had it again last week and has been absolutely floored, bed bound for the days, can barely stumble to the bathroom, has to lie down after every exertion no matter how small. She is seriously ill. This is the thing with covid that makes it so dangerous - it's very unpredictable. Anecdotally, the most recent two strains seem worse amongst our friendship circles than Christmas/spring omicron.

Jackburger · 21/07/2022 10:30

Had in Jan and was definitely in bed for 2-3 days (although able to shower everyday and make food/drinks). Aches, slight fever for 24 hrs and general malaise. Have it again now and it's a sore throat/cold and do feel lacking in energy but way easier than 1st time. I feel well enough to work but my work means close contact with people so obviously can't do until clear.

sheusesmagazines · 21/07/2022 11:57

Much better the second time, still had sore throat, fever, aches, and tiredness but it was milder. Still lasted about a week. This time I didn't get the extreme tiredness from days 7-21 like I did the first time.

This js my experience too! I had a few days of mild cold type illness in April. Late June (and still ongoing) I had a crushing bad flu covid that kept me in a high fever for 2 days, temperature for 4 total, and confined to bed, aching, dizzy and mild exertion wiped me out for 10 days. Still positive on day 13. 3 weeks later, my lungs can tolerate very littler exertion, barking cough and heavy fatigue.

Totally different experience each time. Definitely not mild!

pinklavenders · 21/07/2022 13:51

My friends and family who've had it a second time all felt less I'll the second time round.

I've only had it once, a couple of weeks ago. I tested positive for 10 days but was only 'ill' for about 2 days.

sonjadog · 21/07/2022 16:52

It was much milder for me the second time around. First time I was ill, but not very ill, for about a week, followed by about a month of fatigue. This time it was a mild cold and nausea for three days.

AhaLyn · 21/07/2022 18:02

I have no idea what variants ive had but going off the timelines I’d say this is possibly omicron round 2, it wiped the floor with me. Similar experience to @ColettesEarrings friend described.

WarriorN · 22/07/2022 07:19

First Jan, recovery took 3-4 months.

Second 3 weeks ago. Still felt extremely I'll for 6 days but then bounced back. Spent the Saturday on my own with the kids doing party rounds and then went to my own adults party, dancing till 11 pm and actually drank and felt ok!

Went back to work, seemed fine initially but then I've had on and off fatigue and nerve issues over the last two weeks. My tongue has gone numb again today. No where near as bad as last time though.

sorrynotathome · 22/07/2022 07:21

How on earth would you know it was omicron?

WarriorN · 22/07/2022 07:21

So I seem to be the opposite to some of the stories here!

Will add I'm now on x2 the level of hrt and I'm convinced it's helped.

Everyone was ill in Jan when I had it. Took Dh a good 2 weeks to be able to start to get back to normal. This time no one seemed to get it at all except me.

PeggyGa · 22/07/2022 08:43

Had it in January and positive again. Feel wiped out easily and can’t be bothered doing anything.

don’t know if I am being a drama queen though or it’s covid making me feel like this

bathorshower · 22/07/2022 08:49

When DD first had Omicron, we wouldn't have known had we not been asked to test by school (there was an outbreak in her class). The second time she was clearly unwell, but only at the 'nasty cold for a couple of days' level rather than anything more serious.

Wetcappuccino · 22/07/2022 08:54

Had it in Jan and June. Assume it was Omicron as that was prevalent at the time. It was worse the 2nd time and I am still feeling ill 6 weeks later.

RoofFlower · 22/07/2022 09:39

It’s just so random isn’t it? Had it in December and was just like a mild cold. Got it again now and again I’ve got cold symptoms but worse, sneezing, streaming eyes, nose, throat etc.

It just affects people so differently and I would never dismiss it as being “just a cold”. I have friends/colleagues who have been really poorly and ended up in ITU, yet others have been asymptomatic.

Delatron · 24/07/2022 20:55

First omicron around Christmas I was ill for about 10 days. Quite bad fatigue.

Just had it again and had a runny nose and itchy throat for about 5 days then 3 days of mild fatigue but not as bad as last time. It was like speed covid and I got better a lot quicker.

Friends with the same strain but first time having Covid were floored by it for weeks. It’s random but I do feel like my body recognised it and cleared the infection quicker with less symptoms.

0pheIiaBalls · 25/07/2022 10:57

I've had it three times (well, I've had covid three times since late January so I'm assuming it was all Omicron!).

First time with it, symptoms very mild, just felt washed out/knackered/sore throat/headachey. Second time (mid March) my worst covid infection of all (I've had it six times altogether). Felt absolutely dire for about two weeks and was testing positive for almost a month. Most recent (three weeks ago), about the same as January, with added snot and general cold symptoms.

It varies so much! I've had a completely asymptomatic infection too, though that was last summer so probably Delta.

QueenMabby · 26/07/2022 12:54

February and currently for me. In Feb it was just a mild cold with some added fatigue and jelly legs. Isolated in my room but carried on as normal and even did a job interview on zoom!

Currently on day two of this one - blinding headache and sinus pain and my whole body feels like it's shaking. Not got out of bed yet today but am going to try in a bit. Definitely worse.

Also had it back in October last year but that would have been delta.

popsickle555 · 27/07/2022 07:33

I’ve had it 3 times (I think).

first time was pre vaccines in 2020. Horribly ill, hospital visits etc. 12 weeks of feeling terrible / In bed followed by long covid for 18 months.

2nd time - March this year. 10 day illness, like a mild flu plus awful cold and nausea. Bad but I could shower and I could make food etc. Fatigue lasted another couple of weeks after but I’m still not 100% since having LC.

3rd time - last week. Became very unwell, fever, nausea, terrible stomach pain and blood nose/congested. Came on very very quickly. Bed bound for 36 hours, just couldn’t do anything but sleep. Took antivirals, then the fatigue began plus ‘nerve stuff’ and loss of smell. but all mild after day 4. Lasted 6 days then felt better. But day 9 today and I’m finding it I exercise I’m a bit tired so still taking it easy but ok working etc. Tested negative but I think this was covid. I was also with someone who had covid 2 days before I got sick which I didn’t know until after. I assume my antibodies and antivirals kept it below detectable levels but it’s impossible to know. It was as someone else described like ‘speed covid’ this time.

Scorpio8 · 29/07/2022 08:28

I had it in January and it was like a bad cold I was in bed a few days. This time I do feel worse because of the bad cough, sore throat and cold although cough eased off and throat better.
I don't feel clear of this cold yet and tested positive Tuesday morning although was ill at work Monday.

Startuplife · 29/07/2022 08:31

Had it in January and I had very slight sinus pain and that was it. Would never have known if I hadn’t tested because family we spent Christmas with had it.
Then had it a couple of weeks back and it was awful. Spent 4 days in bed and at least a week before I was up to going out the house.

However, my mum also had it (and gave it to me both times) and she was the opposite. Really bad the first time and then very mild the second.

WarriorN · 29/07/2022 12:42

Update; I've been struggling with some post viral fatigue again. Though the infection was easier and I felt I'd bounced back more quickly, I've been exceptionally tired the last two weeks.

sonjadog · 29/07/2022 14:35

Yes, same here. The actually days I was sick were fine, but I still have the post-viral fatigue two weeks later. I also had horrible anxiety for about ten days, but it seems to have calmed down now, thank goodness. The same happened last time I got ill. The fatigue didn't completely disappear until about 5 weeks after infection. I was hoping the milder illness would mean less fatigue, but it doesn't seem that way...

Moonsun88 · 08/07/2023 20:44

Had it once but for me was milder than flu. That was 2 years ago now. Been sick twice since 2019 and whatever I had and of 2019 was worse and made me very tired. Got through it but took about 3 weeks. Might have been covid then?
