My son has been home since Tuesday because they have shut the class apparently its spread around that class and its more of a staffing issue. I didn't think they would or could do that now.

He's still testing negative

If there's not enough staff then what do you expect them to do?

RhinestoneCowgirl · 07/07/2022 16:57

All our classes are still open, but we have had the warning email to say they are running low on supply teachers and may need to send some year groups home (secondary)

marinalambrini · 07/07/2022 17:01

If they don't have the staff what more can they do?

Soapboxqueen · 07/07/2022 17:04

If schools don't have the staff, for whatever reason, they can close. That has always been the case.

Sometimes they might combine classes or focus on certain year groups but that will depend on their circumstances.

Sadless · 07/07/2022 17:07

I just didn't think they would shut now if people are allowed to go into work with covid.

People are encouraged not to go work with covid. In my school we have to test negative before being allowed back.

x2boys · 07/07/2022 17:09

There allowed to work but what if they are too ill to work, I have some kind of virus at the moment I don't know if it's covid or not ,but I'm feeling pretty crap at the moment tbh

BigRedDuck · 07/07/2022 17:10

The thing is though, if those teachers are too unwell to teach then they can't can they? Just because we're allowed to go in positive doesn't actually mean that people won't be unwell!

It’s not the positive tests that’s the issue necessarily. It’s the fact some people are really ill with it, too ill to work.
it’s living with covid, if your not well you don’t go to work

Redlocks28 · 07/07/2022 17:10

If staff are unwell and there are no supply teacher, what do you want the school to do?!

Georgeskitchen · 07/07/2022 17:11

I hope your fining the school. Like parents who get fined for not sending their kids to school

Springandsummerarecoming · 07/07/2022 17:11

Oh my god it’s sounds like we are in 2020/21 again 😢

A lot of my colleagues are very ill with covid and couldn't come in even if 'allowed'.

Isaidnoalready · 07/07/2022 17:12

Where in the country are you? We don't have any covid cases here that we know of

The school can't magic up staff if the teachers are ill and supply staff are ill🤷‍♀️

Coffeaddict · 07/07/2022 17:13

When I had it i was too unwell to work for a week. If the teachers are the same then there's not much you can do.

Other then mabey lobby the goverment to address the issues that are asking teachers eave in droves

EltonsSpareGlasses · 07/07/2022 17:14

Government guidelines are still to isolate with covid so peoe don't spread it around to goodness knows who.

Plus there are lots of people who are getting quite ill with it.

I think you are very fortunate if that's the case. Covid is pretty rife over much of the country.

MysteriousMonkey · 07/07/2022 17:15

I have covid and am way too ill to work, it's awful, I imagine the teachers are ill and tired.

Covid cases have increased significantly in the past few weeks. It is extremely unlikey to impossible that there aren't cases where you live.

This is living with covid though ,it's still a nasty virus for some people ,yes they are far less likely to need hospital treatment, but that doesn't mean they are well enough to go into work .

Maireas · 07/07/2022 17:16

My academy trust have told us that if we have covid, we stay off for 5 days. Shortage of supply teachers means problems for many schools.
Like pp have said - I don't know what else the school can do.

Sadless · 07/07/2022 17:21

I did get a need to improve attendance phone call a few weeks ago and that was after having about 3 days off in one term. He's had four days this week alone. He attends a special school so I could have insisted on him still being in but they would have just stuck him in another class and he probably wouldn't have liked it. Hopefully the class will open on Monday and stay open till the end of term.
