The school guidelines of 3 days or longer?
School have said they'd like 5 days but I worry dc is still contagious.

When they feel well enough to go to school. Though I'm not testing either myself or the kids anymore.

I almost wish I never tested dc as I have this dilemma now. He's 5 days past and feels alot better. He has something important at school tomorrow so if he feels better I was going to send him.

Wondering the same. DD has important school event tomorrow 3 days after positive test, 4 days after symptoms. No longer 'ill' but very aware that if DD is contagious, other kids may potentially miss equally important events later in week.. have stuck to guidelines through whole pandemic, and have made DC suffer because of it. Sending in after 3 days is as per gov guidelines but still feels wrong.

It's such a hard one isn't it. I almost hate the government for having such wishy washy rules.
When I looked it says, they don't recommend testing Under 18s, send them in with covid if they feel OK or 3 days and go back as long as no temp.

If they feel well enough send them.

JanglyBeads · 27/06/2022 18:18

Do you have a test you could do, that would show if they're still very infectious or not?

School told me not to test again as can show positive even if not infectious.

Lateral flows only pick up active infection so are a good indication tool if you have any in the house.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 27/06/2022 20:59

I'd have to ring the school and ask what their procedure is. I've literally lost track of what the guidance is now!

JanglyBeads · 27/06/2022 22:40

Schools are in a c difficult position re advice, because the NHS and DfE advice is so vague and unhelpful.

stclair · 27/06/2022 23:02

Dd9 on day 7 after testing positive. School rules are come back after 2 negative tests.

easyday · 27/06/2022 23:20

I thought it was five days. If he's feeling ok let him go.

Helpplease888 · 27/06/2022 23:27

The DFE guidance for a child is 3 days off. 5 days off for adults.

UpToMyElbowsInDiapers · 27/06/2022 23:31

Could he wear a good quality mask for a few days? Where I live in Canada, the guidelines are still isolate until Day 5, wear a mask until Day 10. I think it’s a nice balance. You can go about daily life, but don’t risk passing on the virus if it’s still sticking around

ForTheLoveOfSleep · 27/06/2022 23:33

3 days or until temp is back to normal. Whichever is longer.

Yorkshireteabags · 27/06/2022 23:34

I was told 3 days. Guidance says 3 days. Brought him back after 3 days and he was well. School refused until the day after a negative test! I think its still make it up as you go.

He could but he would be the only one wearing one!

That would be a good idea, although uk school children don't wear them anymore so everyone will be wondering why and prob give a hard time if he says it's because I could still be infectious

I'm not testing my DC, so would be as long as they were too unwell to go in.

lolil · 28/06/2022 09:58

You are allowed to do it anyway.

Comefromaway · 28/06/2022 09:59

Until they feel better.

This isn't true. After a recent infection I tested positive on LFTs for over three weeks. Last year DH was still positive after almost two months.

DizzyWhoreI8O4 · 28/06/2022 10:48

I would say if he's well enough to go in, let him go, just like with any other illness.

SpringRainbow · 28/06/2022 14:16

My childrens school are placing a huge importance on attendance. They want everyone who can go in to go in no matter what.

So what I do now is heavily influenced by the fact my kids school are banging on about attendance constantly.

I think you should just speak to the school as they may have a different stance.

lolil · 28/06/2022 14:17

@SpringRainbow

School have said 5 days.
