The school guidelines of 3 days or longer?
School have said they'd like 5 days but I worry dc is still contagious.

Send if if they are well enough. Testing children isn't recommended anymore, so I wouldn't be waiting for a negative test. I don't think the school can insist you pay for tests when it's not even recommended.

No wonder so many people have it again now. What a shit show! 🙈

You say that like more testing of children would change either of those things?

Ds had 3 days off, felt completely well so went back in after that. I was the same after 6 days so went back in. We stopped testing once well.
People I know who waited for a negative test were often sat at home well for 2-3 weeks, which is ridiculous.

MintJulia · 01/07/2022 07:26

I'm treating it like I'd treat flu now.

Does ds still feel poorly?
Is his temperature back to normal?
Is he likely still contagious?

It's really difficult for schools because the government have said 3 days but in reality most people are infectious for about 10 and vulnerable people have go to school too.
Schools are full of children who are extremely vulnerable (I've just had a pupil spend a month in hospital with covid, including some time in ICU, and yes they were vaccinated), children with parents who are extremely vulnerable, and some teachers are vulnerable. I'm currently heavily pregnant and have severe asthma, so school are having to say I can't be in school with the covid guidelines as they are because as my employer they can't sign off a risk assessment for me to teach covid positive pupils but they also can't ask them not to come in. So my classes will be without a teacher.
I don't envy you OP having to make that call, it is such a difficult position for everyone to be in.

I wouldn’t test mine as per current guidance. However if they had a temp/were unwell I’d keep them home for 3 days as per the guidance or until they felt better if longer. Same common sense approach I’ve taken their whole lives.

Firesidefox · 01/07/2022 13:13

I'm amazed by people who want MORE government leglislature rather than less. Surely we all have enough intelligence to work these things out for ourselves? We don't need the Govt to tell us not to come in when we have measles, or flu.

I honestly think people have become so dependent on the Govt telling them what to do, it's pathetic! Just use your common sense.

NB this is NOT directed at the OP because it's a totally fair question. It's directed at those who think the Govt should be micromanaging our lives.

I've just called the school about my daughter (poorly Sunday- Wednesday with a negative lft x4, felt better Thursday but tested positive) as she's been off all of this week. They've told me to call on Monday to check as if she's still positive it's best to keep her off! She'll be well by then and 8 days after symptoms, but only 4 days after a positive lft.

pinklavenders · 01/07/2022 16:39

School rules are come back after 2 negative tests.

So the school requires you to purchase several tests and to stay at home until at least two are negative??

Are you in the UK?

MajorCarolDanvers · 01/07/2022 16:40

No longer testing.

If my child is unwell (whatever the cause) I keep them off school until they are well enough to return.

AppleCharlottie · 01/07/2022 16:57

Wow, three days sounds short. Where I am (Ireland) children under 12 are advised to stay home for 7 days if they test positive. Then wear a well fitting mask for 3 more days.
I have to say I think a lot of people aren't testing any more though.
I am testing as I'd hate to accidentally pass it on.
