Gutted and scared!

Woke up last night with a bit of a sore throat. Went back to sleep and woke up with it again this morning. Thought I'd test just in case and it's positive! DH is also positive but no symptoms, DS is negative for now but we are unable to stay away from him.

I'm terrified, I'm obese so likely to end up in ICU and then to top it off we were supposed to be going on holiday tomorrow which we obviously now cannot go on. We are so so upset and I need a bit of a handhold, especially since we get no money back!

If you're vaccinated, which I'm sure you are, you stand a better chance of avoiding icu.

TibetanTerrah · 23/06/2022 08:00

Are you vaxxed? Even of not the likelihood of you ending up in ICU is very small, try not to worry. I had it for the first time in April and I was just wiped for a few days.

elephantmarchingin · 23/06/2022 08:02

Triple vaccinated

Op, handhold from me. You must be so upset about your holiday, what rotten timing.

Stop worrying about getting very ill and ending up in ICU though. You’re going to be fine. I’m on about day 7 of COVID now and it’s been incredibly mild. The sore throat was the worst of it along with an annoying night time cough. You might be reassured to hear that my very overweight and completely unvaccinated brother had COVID for the first time recently and was completely fine too. The worst for him was awful tiredness and a horrible taste in his mouth.

Sorry about your holiday but keep telling yourself you’re going to be fine Flowers

Herejustforthisone · 23/06/2022 08:20

What holiday locations still require testing?

Numbat2022 · 23/06/2022 08:24

You're very unlikely to end up in ICU when you're vaccinated. Maybe if you have further comorbidities it would be a worry, but then you'd have access to the antivirals, which I'm assuming you don't?

I had Covid a while ago at a size 20 and was fine - nasty virus and hard to recover from as I was so tired, but nothing major.

elephantmarchingin · 23/06/2022 08:26

@Herejustforthisone they don't require testing but seems selfish to go

Samarie123 · 23/06/2022 08:28

Just go on your holiday if you feel well enough!

It's not your fault the vaccine hasn't prevented you getting it.

Etinoxaurus · 23/06/2022 08:31

You’re very very unlikely to end up in icu
and depending on how you’re getting there I wouldn’t discount going on holiday.
Longhaul flight to visit vulnerable relatives- obviously not.
Driving to camp or self cater, even a short flight not impossible.

elephantmarchingin · 23/06/2022 09:10

@Etinoxaurus it's via a short boat ride. We could keep ourselves to ourselves. We were supposed to be going with some family members so are figuring out if they go out tomorrow we could join them on Tuesday which is day 5

This is what living with Covid is doing to us..! I’ve got a summer cold, no big deal but I tested out of curiosity and because I had some lying around the house. Positive. So now it’s not just a cold it’s a covid cold..that’s messed with my head and I somehow feel obliged to work from home and sleep away from my family. What a bloody mess. You’ve got a sore throat..dose up and go on holiday . Like we always used to. Stop testing..I wish I’d followed my own advice.

Scottishgirl85 · 23/06/2022 10:24

Seriously OP you will be fine. This attitude that covid is more dangerous than other illnesses and should be treated differently needs to stop. By being obese you are at significantly higher risk of much more serious illnesses than covid, use this anxiety that has been triggered as an opportunity to make general health improvements.

Melliphant · 23/06/2022 10:29

Extremely unlikely to end up in ICU, vaxxed or unvaxxed makes no difference now. I've got several obese friends who've got through it just fine. Get on hol as it doesn't involve spreading it on a plane - you'll be out of your most infectious stage in a couple of days.

PaddingtonBearStareAgain · 23/06/2022 10:30

Hope you feel better soon OP and as someone who is immune compromised, thank you for being sensible and not going on holiday.

PaddingtonBearStareAgain · 23/06/2022 10:31

This attitude that covid is more dangerous than other illnesses and should be treated differently needs to stop

No it doesn't.

Ready4abreak · 23/06/2022 10:34

Please don't worry. I am obese and take immunosuppresant drugs which means I am apparently at significantly higher risk. We had covid a couple of months ago and it was fine. Bit wiped out for a couple of days like I had a cold but would have been perfectly capable of work if I didn't have to look after a 5 year old and 2 year old at the same time! By the time the isolation period was up we were all climbing the walls!!!!

For context my hay-fever is currently making me feel worse than covid did!

The likelihood of you ending up in ICU as a triple vaccinated person is very small.

JuneJubilee · 23/06/2022 10:35

Herejustforthisone · 23/06/2022 08:20

What holiday locations still require testing?

That's irrelevant, only an utter twat would go knowing they have covid & risk passing it on to hundreds of people. You can be a decent human being, without a law telling you how you must behave.

11Hawkins · 23/06/2022 10:36

Op you will be fine. It's more like a common cold nowadays. If you had cancer and zero immune system then yes okay your worries would be correct but triple vaccinated you'll be fine it'll just be a bad cold.

JuneJubilee · 23/06/2022 10:36

I was in a plane yesterday and I would say a good proportion of the people on it had Covid by the amount of hacking dry coughs I heard.

I wore an N95 mask as I was on day 5 so legally allowed to fly. I heard the people in front of me merrily saying they all felt terrible and feverish. Their son was practically falling down I'll ( "ooh he's hot") but on the plane they went, coughing and spluttering.

If you are in a boat can you not wear a mask and sit outside.

Toomanylosthours · 23/06/2022 11:18

I'm seriously baffled that people are suggesting the OP should go on holiday, surely if you have tested and are knowingly positive the decent thing to do would be to stay at home and not put others at risk.

Watchkeys · 23/06/2022 11:20

I'm obese so likely to end up in ICU

Highly unlikely, in fact. Most likely to feel poorly and need a few days in bed, or just feel like you've got a cold. You'll be ok. Almost everybody is.

Sorry about your holiday though.

Justwanttobebythesea · 23/06/2022 11:22

Samarie123 · 23/06/2022 08:28

Just go on your holiday if you feel well enough!

It's not your fault the vaccine hasn't prevented you getting it.

Vaccines don't stop you getting it (saying that sat here triple vaccinated and on day 3 of covid for the second time), they just reduce the severity of symptoms and the number of people needing to be hospitalised and clogging up the NHS.
