Due to go away in 4 days and just found out work colleague I was with yesterday tested positive last night
I have had it twice , last time end of march: beginning of april so about 11 weeks ago but first time was only about 6 weeks before although with zero symptoms first time.
What do I do now as I'm not sure how long this latest strain is lasting for .
No testing required for holiday as triple jabbed.
Should i test before we go or only if I have symptoms
Was with colleague for approx 7 hrs although some of it outside and at least a metre away most of the time when indoors just due to seating arrangements .
Not sure how long incubation is for current strains,
Abroad and flying on plane

If your destination doesn’t require you to test, then don’t test.

Some destinations don’t require you to test but do require you to fill out a form saying you haven’t got symptoms or been near anyone with covid. Does your destination require this?

Twizbe · 20/06/2022 19:42

Don't test if you don't have to.

Frazzled2207 · 20/06/2022 19:45

don’t test and just hope for the best.
you’ve had it twice. I shared a bed with my husband and didn’t catch it and a few months later he didn’t catch it from me.

if you have lft’s to hand I would pack some so that you can make informed choices if you do get sick abroad.

worriedatthistime · 20/06/2022 19:47

@minipie not if your vaxxed no form to complete

WutheringBites · 20/06/2022 19:48

Can’t advise on whether to travel; but if you do, please wear a mask so you reduce the risk of possible spread to others xxx

worriedatthistime · 20/06/2022 19:50

@Frazzled2207 yes might take some tests just incase I become ill or show symptoms
From what Im hearing though many seem to be becoming ill within a couple days of exposure although know it can take longer. So hopefully would show symptoms before we go if I was going to have it again.

All I will say is that airports are still doing random spot checks. I had members of my family get a random covid spot test on London and again when they arrived at their first destination. They travelled through 4 separate airports and only in one airport they didn't get the spot check as they were just transferring.... turned out one of the family had covid when they tested the day they got back as had a family gathering the next day they wanted to test for just in case..!

So yeah; just be weary you might get an on the spot covid test

worriedatthistime · 20/06/2022 19:54

@ImNotYourHunHun I have heard of about 5/6 people who have come back from
Holiday with covid in last week I think , symptoms a day or two after coming home
If i have symptoms I will test for certain, otherwise i guess anyone could have it anyway with no symptoms. Will be day 5 when I am due to fly after contact

Just go, no requirement to test. Some may not agree but as long as you aren't unwell I wouldn't worry

It's definitely on the rise again.

Personally, I'd test, but that's just me.

worriedatthistime · 20/06/2022 19:58

@WutheringBites yes i have masks with me anyway and plan to wear them on plane , transport
I have heard of so many people lately coming back from holiday and testing positive within a day or two or returning ,

@ImNotYourHunHun but how long do you test for ? When i had covid i tested in the morning and was negative and positive later in the afternoon

OP posts:
Overthebow · 20/06/2022 20:04

i wouldn’t test. There’s loads of people out with it now, if you get it you won’t be the only one on the plane with it.

ImNotYourHunHun · 20/06/2022 20:08

@worriedatthistime I'd test on the following 3 circumstances:

  1. As soon as I found out my colleague was positive and again 48hrs later.
  1. If I had symptoms
  1. 12/24hrs before travelling.

But again, that's just me. As a PP has said, there will be people on that plane with covid. Some may know they have it, some won't know. Just make sure you keep your mask over your mouth and nose and are stringent with hand hygiene.

If it's a long haul flight that has seat back entertainment, make sure you wipe the shit out of the screen before using lol.

Mariposista · 20/06/2022 20:09

Don’t test - enjoy your break :)

Threetulips · 20/06/2022 20:12

Some are getting quite ill, check you have adequate insurance to cover Covid.

Threetulips · 20/06/2022 20:13

I would also check the requirements for isolation where you’re going. If you have children over 18 some countries expect them to isolate alone and you’re expected to leave them there.

worriedatthistime · 20/06/2022 20:16

@ImNotYourHunHun i don't think much point testing when they found out as hadn't worked with them for about 7 days until yesterday. Will maybe test tomorrow when gets to 48 hrs though
Not long haul flight , will be almost 5 days before i fly from contact although no face to face contact and inside we were a metre apart
Sure there will be people on the plane with it though some knowingly but some not even knowing
First time I had it i had no real symptoms but my ds had it
2nd time got of my dh and tested positive within about 48 hrs of him
My parents recently got it off my auntie and showed symptoms within 3 days, my other auntie who stayed in same room never got it and she had covid about 3 months before

So having just got covid on holiday I would advise testing.
we didn’t test before we went but it ended up ruining our holiday a bit. We had a couple of days in bed so wasted holiday days and had to isolate from the group we were with (they wanted to stay away from us). So in retrospect I would have tested and then cancelled/claimed on insurance as it wasn’t great.

worriedatthistime · 20/06/2022 20:25

@IDontLikeMondays88 im going with a few others not just my family so I will test If i have symptoms
Last 2 times I had it i tested positive within 2/3 days of contact

OP posts:
ImNotYourHunHun · 20/06/2022 20:27

Just remember it is a different strain...

At the end of the day it's your choice whether to test or not. There's some very valid points which have been posted from other members, so please take that into consideration.

Enjoy your holiday

worriedatthistime · 20/06/2022 20:36

@IDontLikeMondays88 trouble is even if I test Before i go and i am negative , i could poss still get it ? Although from what I am reading shorter isolation period ?

OP posts:
IDontLikeMondays88 · 20/06/2022 20:58

It’s true you could test before you go and still get it, and that is just one of those things.

What powers do they have to do this and what's the punishment??

worriedatthistime · 20/06/2022 21:38

@Sofasogood1 thats a good question i suppose of test positive before you fly they send you home, not sure what happens if at destination
Country I'm going to says if positive and mild symptoms just to avoid crowded places and wear a mask. If symptoms call dr for advice- if I have read correctly
They can't really send me back on a plane I suppose
Not sure what close contact rules are in destination country maybe I need to find out ?
