Has your primary aged child had their Covid vaccine?

Just that really? AIBU to vaccinate mine? I don't think so?

Seems to me that none of the other children at school have. Even though they've been available a while.

Am I in an area that has more people deciding against it than others?

Or are most people not vaccinating their 5-11 year olds?

Even healthy children have ended up with severe disease…..? You don’t always know if you’ve got an underlying condition until it’s too late.

In tiny numbers. The vaccines aren't entirely without risk either, no vaccine is, so it's about weighing it up.

Plus covid does damage that may not be outwardly obvious and heightens the risk of coronary diseases for 12 months of infection - regardless of the severity of the initial infection. Even if mild.

My question is, is there any evidence the vaccine makes any difference to this, given that it doesn't seem to be very effective in stalling transmission?

I mean don't get me wrong, vaccinate away, it just seems to me to make minimal difference to children.

AgathaMystery · 01/06/2022 17:48

Yes. DC were very ill with Covid birth times. I cannot wait for the 2nd vaccination.

nicerucksack · 01/06/2022 17:57

Yes, age 10. Unfortunately not before it had ripped through school twice, though.

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 01/06/2022 18:06

Yes. I am immunosuppressed so ds is fully vaccinated.

DoubleShotEspresso · 01/06/2022 18:08

We haven't vaccinated our child (primary) yet no.

Very few we are aware of across three schools have - I think by the stage this came available to this age group, mistrust/exasperation with government stuff was so low nobody felt inclined. Most I've spoken to have declined and are all against it or waiting to see how winter looks with Covid again.
We are south London with a very mixed /diverse community- I think I could name maybe 4 children who have had their jab?!
I need a lot of convincing yet for our own child...

SheSellSeaShells · 01/06/2022 18:13

Yes, 8 yo and 11yo. Booked them both in as soon as it was available for under 12's. The day we went they were only vaccinating children that day and there was a big queue

boys3 · 01/06/2022 19:38

5-11 take up rate currently just 8.7% in England

BeenToldComputerSaysNo · 01/06/2022 19:45

Mine got covid the week before they were booked for the vaccine. Wonder if others were also too late so have to wait now?

CoffeeWithCheese · 06/06/2022 12:17

Me and DH made the decision not to have this particular jab for our kids (5-11 age bracket). I'm still suffering side effects now from the initial double set of jabs which have an impact upon my quality of life, the kids had covid with minimal issues - apart from using it as leverage to obtain Macdonalds and play Roblox for hours and we feel that the balance of factors in our family's case comes down against having it at present.

I respect those who have decided otherwise - please also respect my (and my husband but he's not posting on here) decision in a similar vein.

BeenToldComputerSaysNo · 06/06/2022 12:43

@CoffeeWithCheese hope you recover fully.

KangarooKenny · 06/06/2022 12:45

The 5-11 haven’t been done in school, so how would anyone know if they’ve been done or not, unless you asked. Plenty have been coming into our drop in centre.

BlackandBlueBird · 06/06/2022 13:36

I know who’s had it in both DD’s class and DS’ nursery (in Scotland so lots of 5+ year olds) because it was discussed on both WhatsApp groups. In both cases one parent came
on asking for others’ thoughts on the jab. I didn’t need to ask anyone directly (and I wouldn’t!)

GoldenPineapple88 · 06/06/2022 13:39

Absolutely not for my three. There's no good reason to vaccinate an otherwise healthy child against covid. I don't know many parents who will or have. They have all had covid at least once and it was very mild.

Remmy123 · 06/06/2022 16:30

Still struggling to find a reason for a covid jab for kids

FflosFfantastig · 06/06/2022 19:35

No mine hasn't had it and isn't going to at the moment. I'll re-assess at various points but it isn't looking likely

Sarah3587 · 08/06/2022 00:37

my 3 haven’t been covid jabbed.
might have considered it if they hadn’t already had covid twice but even my high risk disabled daughter had no symptoms with covid. So I don’t feel the need for them to be vaccinated against it.
they do have all their other jabs though so I’m not anti vax.
they won’t be getting the nasal flu again though for my youngest 2 because last time it made them really unwell for a whole month.
Everybody has to weigh it up according to their personal situation.
if your child has had a bad case of covid then maybe the vaccine is best for them.

Rupertgrintismyguiltypleasure · 10/06/2022 23:09

Not yet... I’m still on the fence about it. I just don’t feel it’s been around long enough to know the full effects on kids. It’s Not a definite no, I’m just undecided based on the mild symptoms most kids seemed to have had.

zobo45 · 11/06/2022 20:41

What about travel? My daughter is 13 and is supposed to be traveling abroad with school but I had a horrid reaction to Pfizer jab? So confused there isn't any decent honest advice and my GP was hopeless.
Don't know what to do or where to go for advice?

Fabuleuse · 12/06/2022 09:17

My 7 year old DS1 had the first jab mid April, my 4 year old DS2 is not old enough. DS1 normally suffers terribly with colds. He coughs to the point of vomiting and was hospitalised over the Christmas holidays for viral wheeze with a non Covid cold virus. DS2 normally shrugs them off.

We have just had Covid last week. DS1 had a temperature and was a bit off for a day. He was completely fine by the next day. DS2 has had it much worse, been miserable, off food, had a temperature for longer and has had a cough to rival DS1's usual. This is the illest he's ever been.

Abraxan · 12/06/2022 09:29

My 9y nephew has been vaccinated. His choice and helped his anxieties surrounding it all.

I work at an infant school and we have had some children come into school late or leave early to have their vaccinations, but that's a minority that I currently know of. The children/parents don't have to declare it or anything so not really sure how many other than those and the few who have mentioned it in class.

I know of some people who have had their child vaccinated. In the teenage group the numbers are much higher than in the under 11s amongst these people.

Veryverycalmnow · 12/06/2022 09:31

Strongly advised by GP to get our DS (5) vaccinated so have done. Now it's time for his 2md dose.

RenegadeMrs · 12/06/2022 09:35

I will be vaccinating mine but closer to the winter. We had just had covid when DD was invited to have hers in March and they say to leave it 12 weeks from then before getting the jab so couldn't have it earlier. I want her protected more over the winter, so will probably get her jabbed in August.

ScottishStar · 12/06/2022 10:02

My 5 year old DD won’t have it. She had covid and was only poorly for half a day. She can still transmit covid if she is vaccinated so I don’t see the point, as she really didn’t suffer from it last time.

Howabsolutelyfanfuckingtastic · 14/06/2022 14:11

None of my 7 children have had the vaccine or covid.

Lululoveslife · 17/06/2022 07:23

Not in a million years for myself or my precious children. I work in a clinic where we are treating so many patients with post vaccine pericarditis, all young people who have had their lives destroyed by this ‘vaccine’. Please for the love of God look at the research put out by hundreds of doctors and scientists who are being silenced by the pharmaceutical funded main stream media and government.
