Is the covid travel passport not a thing any more?

We travelled to the Netherlands this week - it wasn't our final destination, but we flew in and out of Schiphol. The FCO website says "Fully vaccinated UK nationals who can provide acceptable proof of vaccination, which includes the NHS COVID Pass, are allowed to enter the Netherlands."

We had our passes. Nobody asked to see them. Nobody at the airport even mentioned covid, or testing, or vaccination. Are other countries just not bothered any more?

(to be clear, the Dutch attitude to covid was refreshing, no masks, very much business as usual). I am not agitating for more restrictions.

I'm hoping it is reducing.

We're going to Spain in about a month. Vaccination certificates will be required so we'll have those with us. Whether or not they will be checking them I don't know.

PAFMO · 20/05/2022 09:20

The Netherlands govt website says if you come from an EU/Schengen OR "country considered to be of minimal risk" you don't need to provide a negative test or fill in a PLF so presume Vax status is the same.

MadameCholetsDirtySecret · 20/05/2022 09:23

In Spain they do random checks for covid passports so make sure you have them. They will also check everyone’s temperature with a thermal camera device - you just walk past it, some people might not even notice it.

We're on our way home from Barcelona, had to show our covid pass when we arrived but it could have been anyones, I was worried as my passport is still in my maiden name but they never would have known just a quick flash as we went past

Is this the one in the NHS app? I am going to Spain next month and need to check out what I need.

pinklavenders · 20/05/2022 11:04

Certainly checked thoroughly in Canada and the US! Without being fully vaccinated you need to quarantine for 14 days in Canada and take two further tests!

Scianel · 20/05/2022 13:34

Spain are about to drop the covid pass requirement. But yes in general there appears to be a less of interest - DH entered France a few weeks ago and no-one checked anything.

dementedpixie · 20/05/2022 21:12

Spain are keeping covid restrictions until 15th of June for 3rd countries which we are in the UK. Dont know what they will change to after that

Scianel · 20/05/2022 21:16

It's changed. Says here "within days"

I flew to and from Italy this past week and although it still lists the 'options' (vaccination certificate, negative test, recovery certificate etc) noone asked to see our paperwork at any stage of the check in or boarding.

Must have changed in the last couple of days then

Cookerhood · 20/05/2022 21:53

Also in Italy last week & noone asked for our passes in spite of it being a requirement. We did have to wear masks on public transport.

KnitPurlKnitPurl · 21/05/2022 08:10

the airport still had signs up about masks and were playing announcements over the tannoy. Hardly anyone wearing masks, the odd one or two but less than 1%. EasyJet still demanding masks on flights so there was a mad scramble at the gate with people handing around spare masks to strangers so they could board. Lots of people removed their masks after take off, or had them hanging round their chins.

Yes we found this when flying to Spain. No one checked our covid passes, masks were required on the plane but in reality no one wore them and cabin crew didn’t mind.

it was really great to see, travel was completely back to normal and it felt good.

artisanbread · 21/05/2022 08:17

It's a requirement for France but I went at Easter and nobody checked. I'm always worried there will be random checks though!

Scianel · 21/05/2022 08:22

artisanbread France changed their criteria, you can take a pcr test 72 hours before or lat flows 48 hours.

Ginajo · 21/05/2022 08:23

It's interesting that you say the Dutch attitude to masks is refreshing. Where are you from in the UK? I'm in London and no-one is wearing masks. Everything is completely back to normal, as if covid never existed. The only time I've worn a mask recently was on an EasyJet flight to Spain. No-one wearing them at Gatwick.

AppleandRhubarbTart · 21/05/2022 08:39

I think increasingly fewer fucks are being given yes.

Scotland. Masks were compulsory here until 18th April. So it's really only been a month. There are definitely fewer people wearing masks every week, but there are still quite a lot of people wearing them.

Austria. If you fly on Austrian Airlines, you need to wear an FFP2 mask for the whole flight, in the airport, station, and on public transport and in supermarkets. They also checked Covid passports at the airport.

Sunquench · 21/05/2022 08:55

We are off fo Spain in 3 weeks. My 12 year old hasn’t had any vaccinations so will need a PCR. Who checks the fit to fly certificate? Our side or theirs?

EileenGC · 21/05/2022 09:02

I'm in Germany and Covid passes have been dropped domestically. Travel restrictions started easing off in January and I haven't had a single document checked in months (I travel very frequently). I believe passengers from a few countries are still required to test / present Covid pass when flying in, but I couldn't tell you which ones - haven't checked the website for ages.

There is still a strict FFP2 mask rule on public transport, and businesses are allowed to impose them too (my workplace still does). On flights they're not too strict - unless you fly Lufthansa / Austrian / Swiss, and I've seen plenty of people with blue medical or cloth masks too.

It could be either, both, or nothing at all. I fly to Spain regularly and it's sometimes the airline that wants to check it all before issuing the boarding pass (as it becomes their responsibility to fly you back if your documents aren't accepted when you land). Other times I've just walked on the plane with no checks, and it was Spain who scanned the code upon landing. Lately it has become a spot check system - maybe 1 out of 10 people pulled aside when disembarking and documents checked.

KnottyKnitting · 21/05/2022 09:06

We just came back from Portugal. We attached our covid pass to our tickets when we checked in but no one either way asked us or any other passengers about it. They were enforcing masks on the plane both ways though.

Sunquench · 21/05/2022 09:07

@EileenGC

Thanks for responding. We are all vaccinated bar my 12 year old and I haven’t flew for 15 years, so I feel like a fish out of water. 🤦‍♀️
