Are you wearing masks at work?

We are supposed to wear one to move around at work. Coming out of the office to go to the toilet. To go and make a drink or get your lunch out of the fridge in the kitchen.

Anyone else doing this? Is it overkill? What do you think?

NHS non clinical and have to wear one at desk all day. No plans as far as I know for this to ever change unfortunately. Was hoping at least non clinical staff would be able to take their mask off whilst sitting at their desk (as we are two metres apart) but nope.

Rupertgrintismyguiltypleasure · 29/04/2022 23:43

Nope... some people do, but at least 70% are not using masks. Some are only using mask whilst facing customers ( retail) but out the back no mask. No judgement here, people gotta do what they gotta do...

Yes, I'm NHS and can't see us stopping for the foreseeable. Also still isolating, testing and distancing.

Behaviourlog · 30/04/2022 00:01

Yes same rules as you. Distanced desks

trainnane · 30/04/2022 00:16

No

maryso · 30/04/2022 10:17

@Muchtoomuchtodo why not? It's no harder than prepping for op, and much less effort than the continual testing we have to do anyway. What we do is pretty standard for our colleagues. Almost all the doctors we know wonder why people don't mask up, when FFP2/3 masks are so cheap now.

Pushkinia · 30/04/2022 16:33

Yes, masks are required to move around Council buildings, but not at our desks.

When teaching in schools, it depends on the school’s own policy. Some have kept masks in corridors, others have dispensed with them completely.

NHS (mental health). We were told on Tuesday that masks were no longer required.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 02/05/2022 10:50

We have to wear them at our desks at the moment but that's being dropped this month. It seems daft to still be wearing them when we go out together at lunchtime or in the evening with no mask!

Are you in a patient facing role ? I'm really surprised at this there are no signs of my trust dropping masks anytime soon .

I work from home so no, but DH in small office of 4 people never did. Some minor attempt at social distancing early on but soon fizzled out as boss unwilling. DD 1 in Saturday job at museum, nope, (although the job is a recent thing) DD 2 in conventional office role, nope. Also has 2nd job in hospitality - also nope.

mast0650 · 02/05/2022 15:23

Not any more, no. I work in a university. We were wearing them in public/social indoor spaces and in some cases for meetings until a few weeks ago. Students are still tending to wear them if they have a bit of a cold etc

Daqqe · 03/05/2022 13:17

No. Not anymore. It’s guidance in communal areas but very, very few people in either of our UK offices do. I haven’t since they were dropped again.

Seems largely pointless in polite offices in terms of infection control. I had my first night out out in two years on Saturday (cos I have kids not cos covid 😂) & it was like 2019. 4 deep and getting elbowed in the face to get to the bar 🥴 & crammed in like sardines on the dance floor. People snogging strangers. It was such a good night but it did at times feel very alien!
