Are you wearing masks at work?

We are supposed to wear one to move around at work. Coming out of the office to go to the toilet. To go and make a drink or get your lunch out of the fridge in the kitchen.

Anyone else doing this? Is it overkill? What do you think?

Yes. NHS here. Still wearing masks, social distancing and testing regularly.

TabithaTittlemouse · 28/04/2022 18:53

Yes. Another nhs nurse, I can’t see it stopping for us.

MargeSimpson79 · 28/04/2022 18:54

No - large primary school. We stopped in February. Before that we had to wear them when moving around the school. Jan/Feb we had a lot of staff off but it’s been just the odd one here and there since then.

Icantfindanewname · 28/04/2022 18:55

Yep. NHS office staff. No contact with public. Have to wear one at all times except if eating / drinking. Even though we are sat 2m+ apart, back to back. I'm a fan of masks in general and I think they have/had their place, but I'm starting to feel uncomfortable in them now.

catsonahottinroof · 28/04/2022 18:57

We stopped a few months ago thank god! In your situation I'd just stop wearing one - if anyone says anything just say you forgot or give some other reason why you can't wear one. It's so ridiculous in your situation to be not wearing one sitting down but putting it on to move about in. A bit like with pubs in the earlier days.

maddiemookins16mum · 28/04/2022 19:21

Crikey no way - we stopped all that last summer. Our hand gel dispensers are even empty now and the office is fit to bursting.

Scottsforsure281 · 28/04/2022 19:40

Nhs so yes and I'm really glad we do, I caught covid from my DH 2 weeks ago (he caught it from his arse hole of a manager who went into work with covid and they don't wear masks). I've been really poorly, I didn't pass it onto any of my colleagues despite us working in close proximity.

liveforsummer · 28/04/2022 19:40

Our council requirement was dropped on Monday night. (School) On Tuesday one or 2 still wore masks in corridors, by Wednesday everyone had embraced the bare faces. We are still strongly encouraged to do so but nope - no one wants to.

Bramshott · 28/04/2022 19:43

We do, but we are very public facing (performance venue)

Traumdeuter · 28/04/2022 19:46

We’re meant to wear them when moving around, and can remove when sitting down. Probably around 50 per cent of people do it and 50 per cent don’t. There are also advisory limits on numbers of people permitted in meeting rooms at one time.

Femalewoman · 28/04/2022 20:14

I went into a shop today (South West) and was really surprised to see a couple of people (customers) wearing them. Most people don't wear anymore.

On a recent foreign holiday they insisted people wear masks to get up and get food, however all were using the same serving utensils, and able to sit down next to others and remove masks so pretty pointless really. During evening entertainment everyone sat down not wearing but had to put on for bar, again odd, doe people think that this constant on and off with masks works. Does sitting down offer some magical protection that disappears once you stand up.
The entire situation is silly. I'm so glad that mandatory mask wearing has gone in the UK at least in most places.

Oblomov22 · 28/04/2022 20:24

Nope. Never have fortunately. One job I have my own office, the other there's only 3 of us in a reasonable sized office. Never worn masks in either.

Oblomov22 · 28/04/2022 20:26

I hate wearing them. Don't wear one in the Supermarket anymore. I'm compliant, but I'm not even sure they are that effective anymore.

Inclinedtochatter · 28/04/2022 20:32

Yes I work in an opticians so we will be wearing them for the foreseeable. We just treat them as part of our uniform.

orangeisthenewpuce · 28/04/2022 20:38

Work in large office (all through lockdown too) and we've never worn masks.

Bagadverts · 28/04/2022 20:39

Just changed employer. This office is only just beginning to open up so I expect everyone will be masking and sanitised to the hilt. Previous employer had become optional from when requirements were lifted.

MinglingFlamingo · 28/04/2022 21:38

My department stopped wearing them last Monday finally!

SecretVictoria · 28/04/2022 21:41

Yes, it isn’t mandatory but I’m public facing and have a CEV DH so I’ll keep doing so. We’ve just come back from New York and they are still mandatory in lots of venues there (Broadway, Airports, public transport, some shops & museums).

CoffeeWithCheese · 29/04/2022 12:38

NHS work (well placement) - wear visor or mask when seeing service users, when I go into the office until you get to a desk (they all have perspex jails around them). Not allowed to car share (I'm working a community caseload so we can have three or four of us arriving to the same person separately and claiming mileage) unless wearing them - and since most of us wear glasses and would like to see where we're going when driving - that rules it out.

I think I've been into the office twice in 4 months.

GreatBigBeautifulTommorow · 29/04/2022 15:13

Yes, NHS so will be for the foreseeable future.
Also just feels like part of the uniform now.

shumway · 29/04/2022 15:22

Most in my office don't. I do.

maryso · 29/04/2022 17:38

Haven't stopped wearing FFP3 masks out of home and deep cleaning when returning home. It means we can live together as a family and continue to work at our various places including NHS.

Not CEV and all fully boosted, but as everyone knows that won't stop transmission. Also masks will reduce viral load so better chances of recovering if infected.

An FFP2/3 mask is less bother than a seat belt, and has extended benefits on all transmission and, for the teenager in us, facial recognition software.

What do you mean by deep cleaning when you get home?

Why couldn’t you continue living together if you didn’t deep clean and wear FFP3 masks when you’re out of the home, especially as not CEV and all vaccinated?

vodkaredbullgirl · 29/04/2022 21:24

Work in a care home, can't see us stopping soon.

timestheyarechanging · 29/04/2022 23:28

Yes - GP's . We have to wear them when seeing patients but don't if we are in the office as have partitions.
