Just curiosity (and a bit of reassurance) really

I'm CV and have it now. The worst part is the aches and tiredness. I've had it before and I'm OK just very tired for a few weeks afterwards but so are many people who get it.

I'm really happy for you @BeyondPurpleTulips, and I'm sorry for pooping on your parade.

Sorry I just read back my post and it is not clear that while it is true, a more jokey tone was intended than came across! 🙂

RadioRouge · 07/05/2022 17:17

You did nothing wrong @BeyondPurpleTulips, and I hope you are fully recovered very soon.

Not me but my BIL. He has COPD and is currently waiting for a double lung transplant. I think he was part of the shielders who were told not to even open their windows. He said he’s had worse colds and he got Covid before he had his first jab

SilverGlassHare · 07/05/2022 17:25

A friend with stage 4 cancer had it, it was just like a bad cold for him. A couple of days in bed, that’s all.

Everyoneishappier · 07/05/2022 17:46

I have no spleen. CEV . Isolated for a year completely. No going out until double vaccinated.

Got it 3 days before booster due. Pretty rough but stayed out of hospital by 1% on the oxi-meter.. in bed for 11 days...

2nd time was a sniffle.
3rd time was between the two...

4th booster due next week.

MadisonAvenue · 07/05/2022 19:46

I’m CEV due to having no spleen (as is my son) although we didn’t fully shield but were extra careful.

I tested positive in January this year, felt a bit off all day on the first day and by the evening my nose was blocked, I had body aches, a headache and I was shivering. My husband and our sons sat in a different room and after a couple of hours I fell asleep on the sofa. I woke up three hours later when my husband popped his head around the door to see how I was and I felt fine, all those symptoms had gone. I just felt tired for a few days after that, lost my sense of smell on the fifth day but that came back a few days later.

My husband has no health problems and tested positive two days after me and had a couple of days of feeling pretty rough. Our son then tested positive and he had a day in bed and felt like he’d got a bad cold.

Our other son, he’s CV, amazingly hasn’t had it at all despite living with the three of us and teaching in a secondary school.

If it's any reassurance, I was going through treatment for cancer throughout the pandemic lockdowns. Since things have opened up, I was warned I'd be CEV for about 18 months. I have of course been careful but I have a primary aged child and that makes things a bit difficult! I have been pinged multiple times and indeed my boy finally tested positive last week. I don't want to tempt fate but I've still not caught it. Please try not to worry too much.

Me

urrrgh46 · 07/05/2022 21:33

My son - he had to shield. Has had it twice now and been fine. And the rest of the family caught us badly recently and he didn't get it at all!!!

urrrgh46 · 07/05/2022 21:34

For context he's 19 and on immunosuppressants for ulcerative colitis. He also has moderate neutropenia.

RestingPandaFace · 07/05/2022 21:40

Yes, very severe asthma, got it first after 2 vaccinations and was completely asymptomatic, caught it again after booster and it was
like a bad cold, slightly short of breath and bit rough for a few days, dead tired constantly for about a fortnight, but overall not too bad.

Twice, first time March 21 after 1 vaccine. Totally fine, except I lost taste and smell for a week or so and I was really tired.

second time March 22 after 3 vaccines lol. Was shocked to test positive. Totally unaware, no symptoms or anything. I test because I’m a carer and we do it before each shift.

I was added to the CEV list in Feb 21, with the new algorithm. I kept working as a carer.

Everanewbie · 19/05/2022 15:37

I'm classed as CV but I don't really think of myself as being that, fortunately. I had COVID at the end of March, after 3 jabs. To me it was akin to a middle of the road cold. I was tired by the end of the day, but if it didn't have the grand title of COVID as opposed to a virus pre-March 2020, I would not have cancelled any plans or called in sick from work. Down in part I suppose to having 3 jabs, plus a more mild variant. I feel terribly guilty for thinking this, but I kept thinking "is this what all the fuss is about? Bit of an anti-climax" but I know I was pretty fortunate.

ProclivityForPyrotechnics · 19/05/2022 15:55

I had it and it was awful. In bed for 2 weeks but not admitted to hospital. I had the new drug so maybe it was that?

PuzzledObserver · 20/05/2022 15:50

I had it at the very end of 2020, pre vaccination.

I was/am morbidly obese, with type 2 diabetes, aged late fifties. I was told in February 2021 that I was considered very high risk and should be shielding.

I had an annoying cough and felt wiped out/no energy, for several weeks. Then fully recovered. No long term effects.

RedRosie · 21/05/2022 08:58

Yes. My DH, who has cancer, has recently had it. It was a mild illness, and he was better than me (although I wasn't that ill either). He did get antivirals as he's on some list, but was not especially unwell before them.

Thank goodness for vaccines.

IWishTheBishopWell · 23/05/2022 14:42

I was CV when I caught Covid last summer. I felt rough but was never in danger - I felt very fatigued and cold/flu like symptoms and had a cough for about 8-9 weeks. My peak flow improved during it and my breathing was fine. I did have a secondary chest infection and a secondary kidney infection but both could be managed at home with antibiotics. I was largely back to normal after 12 weeks.

I'm now CEV as my asthma has worsened recently and am now eligible for treatments if I catch it again.

I know someone who was having chemo when she caught Covid so was CEV. She was completely asymptomatic - only found out as her healthy husband had symptomatic Covid and had a PCR as a close contact.

0pheIiaBalls · 23/05/2022 22:34

I've had it four times. I have rheumatoid arthritis and I'm immunosuppressed. I was asymptomatic once, barely symptomatic once, and twice it was like a mild flu with some whacky symptoms.

Quad vaxxed, having my fifth soon.

bookworm14 · 23/05/2022 22:37

I’m CEV due to being on immunosuppressant medication for Crohn’s. I’ve had covid twice - the first time I spent one day in bed, the second time I was virtually asymptomatic. Being CEV doesn’t automatically mean you will be very ill with it.

LateMumma · 23/05/2022 22:44

I'm CEV and caught covid a couple of months after my third vax, then again less than 3 months later. Fine both times, although wouldn't be in a hurry for a third bout!

LisaSimpson77 · 23/05/2022 23:02

I know of a few:
Teenage transplant patient, had the anti-viral drip as soon as she tested positive and was completely well in five days.
95 year old, diabetic, heart condition...had a sniffle and was bored.
80 year old with a heart condition, slept a lot for a week and had bad sinuses.
62 year old, multiple health conditions, did feel very poorly for two weeks and needed Gp care but avoided hospital and made a full recovery.

They were all fully vaccinated though.

UserGenerated · 26/05/2022 08:37

Yep, my uncle is CEV with heart issues, lung problems and a neurological condition. He didn't want the vaccine. He was out flat for a couple of weeks but stayed in bed until he was better. Made a full recovery within 3 weeks.

UserGenerated · 26/05/2022 08:41

Among friends:

Friend 1 has severe asthma, Covid for her was a bad cold/moderate flu for 2 weeks

Family member who has 2 auto immune diseases plus serious lung condition, can't take vaccine due to heart condition - had it twice, felt quite crap but was at home both times and managed with steroids and lots of sleep
