Going on a short break next week but tested positive this morning

We are due to go away next week, dd2 tested positive Friday, I got symptoms Sunday evening but didn’t test positive until this morning. Dd2 still testing positive but should be fine by the end of the week (she feels fine but still has slight cough), I feel a bit rough, persistent cough and body aches but no other symptoms. Should we still go next week? We are due to go Tuesday for 2 nights, premier inn type place. Would you still go if testing positive?

Also my other dd so far seems to be negative so there’s a chance she could come down with it, at the moment she’s staying out the way in hope not to get it, if she does come down with it we could leave her at home (she’s 18). I don’t think I would get my money back if I cancel.

no i wouldn't

Wnikat · 12/04/2022 10:09

In a week’s time you very unlikely to still be infectious.

Bornslippery · 12/04/2022 10:09

Yes I would go

Wnikat · 12/04/2022 10:10

NHS advice is to avoid people for 5 days, and close contact with anyone CEV for 10 days

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 12/04/2022 10:10

Yes I would unless you actually feel too ill to travel

  1. Legally you can
  2. Not sharing a room with others
  3. Probably not infectious by then
rahjama · 12/04/2022 10:12

I would

Williamshatnershorses · 12/04/2022 10:14

I would. Your symptoms started on Sunday so Tuesday is day10 and you are allowed out of isolation by then.

We had a slightly different scenario where one of the DCs had a medical appt on day10 - I postponed that because while technically it was allowed, we would have been going into a hospital and even the small risk of them still being infectious and interacting with CEV people felt wrong. But a hotel and wandering around - that’s fine in my book.

Heythere13 · 12/04/2022 10:16

If well - absolutely
If not - no

Essentially same response as to pre covid

MrsSkylerWhite · 12/04/2022 10:17

We wouldn’t go until we’d all tested negative.

Lovemusic33 · 12/04/2022 10:21

Thank you, I’m hoping we will be fine to go. Obviously if we feel unwell we won’t go but dd will be past the ten days and so will I if I go by when my symptoms started and not when I got a positive test.

We won’t be close to other people other then when we eat breakfast. We will mainly be outside.

@MrsSkylerWhite

We wouldn’t go until we’d all tested negative.
That's useless though, as you can actually test positive for weeks after you get it, when you're absolutely not contagious or showing any symptoms anymore.

I've decided that if/when I get it, I'll work as I would have done before the rules change - 10 days isolation unless I can get 2 consecutive negative tests on days 6/7.

It's only fair on everyone else around you.

I know. We wouldn’t go until we had a negative test 🤷‍♀️
(10 days recently)

I would still go.

Dancingqueen202 · 12/04/2022 10:33

I would but would wear a mask in public places. Just incase you are still infectious it might protect others.

We will wear masks anyway (if going indoors). I tend to keep my distance from people anyway. The weathers looking ok so we can eat outside.

I would definitely go

bananatwain · 12/04/2022 11:07

Would go unless symptomatic

Flippydip · 12/04/2022 12:24

You should go. Isolation is only advised for 5 days now: From 1 April, anyone with a positive COVID-19 test result will be advised to try to stay at home and avoid contact with other people for 5 days, which is when they are most infectious.

ifyouturnonthelight · 12/04/2022 12:26

I have no idea why people post about going on holiday or events etc if they've already decided they're going to go. Go enjoy your holiday don't feel bad about giving other people Covid. Enjoy yourself! Why not!

Because I feel bad about infecting other people? But also a part of me thinks “well everyone else is continuing as normal whilst negative so what difference does it make?”. I guess it’s good to hear other peoples opinions.

Anyway, we will probably go if we all feel well. We will wear masks where we need too and avoid indoor places if we are still testing positive, if we are negative obviously we will carry on as normal.

No one is supposed to be testing that’s the whole point!!!!

Why can’t people grasp policy?

Testing is no longer advised

You try to stay at home if unwell

Go out if well

That’s the advice- not to be obsessed looking at covid tests.

Pootle40 · 12/04/2022 18:37

In a week's time? Unless I was still feeling unwell or coughing a lot I would go.

is that the same if you are going abroad. My DD is off to Paris in 2 weeks will she no longer need to test or is that just if you are holidaying at home
Watapalava · 13/04/2022 07:12

You don't need to test at all if vax as just got back from france/spain - noone even checked my vax certs

TulipsGarden · 13/04/2022 07:18

But @Watapalava, most people have more of a social conscience than you and don't want to infect people.
