How long are people isolating for?

Tested positive on LFT last Thursday (had some left over from work testing). Positive PCR on Friday (ONS study and was scheduled anyway).
Has felt like a bad cold but starting to feel better now. Lft today is still positive but much lighter.
According to the gov guidance and my covid app after I inputted the positive result I should avoid going out until midnight tomorrow - I think this is regardless of lfts now? But avoid vulnerable people until Sunday (have cancelled seeing grandparents this week etc but would have done that for a bad cold anyway).

Is this the guidance everyone else is following?
Also - would you take the dog out? Have a private hire field booked tomorrow and she's been going mad stuck in the house. There's 0 chance of anyone else being there and I know it's not illegal but I feel uneasy.

@Daqqe

I refuse to pay for 7 days + worth of tests. Or tests at all really. So I guess I won’t be isolating 🤷🏼‍♀️ How on earth are people still testing their entire household for 10 days?! How many bloody lateral flows did you stockpile?! No wonder they stopped them..

My DDs nursery now say 5 days from positive test, no need to re-test at the end. If well enough they can go back in on day 6.

Because that's what the recommended isolation is now, no talk of testing at the end. A lot of people are still doing it though. Your nursery are erring on the side of caution though as I think children are 3 days isolation?

I would def not worry about walking the dog in the circs you say.no laws anymore just guidance.

I did ten days but went for walks and drives. My husband had it at the exact same time and two of our adult kids were visiting but had recently had it so 'isolating' wasn't difficult for us.
My Uncle died of covid last month. He was terminally ill but Covid killed him a lot quicker than expected. It reminds you that there are still lots of vulnerable people about.
I always think of people who have cystic fibrosis 😕

Yes @Iggly - I’ve had it twice. Once pre vaccines & once post vaccines. I was pretty poorly second time round, in bed for a few days. Felt awful. But nothing concerning. I just felt very sorry for myself for a week or so, recovered & got on with life like I would any other nasty illness..

I have been left with parosmia which is altered sense of smell & taste. Most food tastes like rotten meat. It’s pretty shit. But shit happens. I’ve been unlucky. Hopefully it’ll get better. Life goes on.

I'm doing the full 10 days, and won't see my vulnerable parents on day 11 as we'd planned to. I will be seeing non-vulnerable friends who have recently had Covid instead though, as they're happy with the level of risk.

I tested on day 6 just to see as I was feeling better, and I still had a very strong positive - stronger than my first day of symptoms. So I figure I must still be infectious. I won't bother testing again, no point now.

LindaEllen · 14/04/2022 10:02

I'd isolate for up to 10 days, but would start testing from day 5 and if I got 2 consecutive negative tests I'd start mixing again.

However I wouldn't be staying in the house anymore, I would be going out for walks if I felt well enough.

There is no legal obligation to isolate anymore, and while I can understand that you really shouldn't mix, I also won't be locking myself up.

MaryStuart · 14/04/2022 10:31

I’ve recently had it, and tested negative on day 9.
I wasn’t going to go out whilst positive (as I said upthread) as I felt so shit there’s absolutely no way I’d have wanted to pass it on to anyone.
And for the most part, I was too wiped out to want to go out anyway.

Disgruntledpelicanlady · 14/04/2022 19:49

I put the test codes I was sent (from the pcr and the lateral flow I registered) into the app and that's what generated the 5 days - strange it's doing different for other people.
I'm feeling fine now and have been out the past few days. Not meeting people in close contact but have been places in the car for walks with my husband and have nipped into shops with mask on. Have still cancelled people coming round and going out for meals etc as probably a bit too close. I don't feel the need to stay in completely though when I'm feeling fit and well and there's probably plenty of people walking about with it who haven't even tested.

But imagine. Millions of people experiencing it and all having to take time off work simultaneously.

It’s happening now - I’ve never known so many people to have to miss work even compared to cold/flu seasons.
