How long are people isolating for?

Tested positive on LFT last Thursday (had some left over from work testing). Positive PCR on Friday (ONS study and was scheduled anyway).
Has felt like a bad cold but starting to feel better now. Lft today is still positive but much lighter.
According to the gov guidance and my covid app after I inputted the positive result I should avoid going out until midnight tomorrow - I think this is regardless of lfts now? But avoid vulnerable people until Sunday (have cancelled seeing grandparents this week etc but would have done that for a bad cold anyway).

Is this the guidance everyone else is following?
Also - would you take the dog out? Have a private hire field booked tomorrow and she's been going mad stuck in the house. There's 0 chance of anyone else being there and I know it's not illegal but I feel uneasy.

I had to do the full 10 days of isolation under the scottish guidance and shouldn't have left the house but i did go out for a walk a few times when it was quiet, otherwise I'd have gone mad! Friends took their dog out for walks too. I would definitely go to a private dog run field.

Lovemusic33 · 11/04/2022 14:22

I would still take the dog out if your not going to be close to other people.

My dd is on day 5 and still positive, I have symptoms but testing neg. We shall stay away from people until our symptoms have gone but I’m sure going for a walk is fine, I might take dd for a drive or a walk because she’s going crazy stuck indoors. I think just use common sense, keep your distance from people and don’t visit vulnerable family/friends.

I’ve currently got Covid, and it’s been pretty horrible. So I’ll be isolating until I test negative, as I wouldn’t want to pass this onto anyone.

Bailey48 · 11/04/2022 18:55

I have covid abs it is not nice eek

LethargeMarg · 11/04/2022 18:59

I was in the pub with friends Saturday and conversation turned to covid and one said 'I've got it now' and thought I'd misheard so checked and she'd tested positive weds and had a faint positive Saturday and gone to the pub which I was pretty suprised by . Don't really understand testing on day four if you're going to go out anyway ???

Iggly · 11/04/2022 19:02

I waited until day 10. I decided that it’s like chicken pox - would I take my child out until their spots had scabbed? Yes I would. So I waited until I tested negative (which was day ten).

But - I did go out for solo walks where I knew I’d not really see anyone before then. Although I was so unwell, I couldn’t manage it until day 7.

The cold symptoms went quickly but I was absolutely exhausted for 2-3 weeks.

Iggly · 11/04/2022 19:03

I mean yes I would wait until their spots had scabbed, not before. Hope that makes sense 😂

Same predicament here -

DH has tested positive, we were meant to be going away this weekend. By the guidance he'll be 5 days after the positive test, but a few people have commented saying they" hope he tests negative soon! ". I can't find anything about that! All I can find is isolate for 5 days, and assuming you're feeling ok then you are free to escape. Does he need to test again? Or are these people either really cautious, or stuck in the old isolation ways?

bellinisurge · 11/04/2022 19:09

Had to do 10 full days because, unlike the rest of my household that tested negative after 5 and 7 days respectively, I kept testing positive till then. After that I left isolation. They caught it and I was still negative for 3 days until I tested positive too. Not sure why it played out differently for me.

Jules912 · 11/04/2022 19:15

Think the guidance is just 5 days now but given my line was black and I could barely get out of bed on day 5 (this was a few weeks ago before guidance changed) I find it hard to believe I wasn't still infectious. As per the guidance at the time I did 10 days.

monicagellerbing · 11/04/2022 19:18

My DH has tested positive on Saturday, he spoke to work this morning and they've said 10 days isolation so we are up shit creek as he only gets SSP and the first 3 days isn't paid at all.

HardyBuckette · 11/04/2022 19:24

I'd go, there's no enhanced risk to anyone else and it's better for you to have fresh air and exercise. Someone usually comes on to say what happens if you have an accident on the way and need medical attention, but you could also have one if you stayed at home.

Surely if they are specifying it, they need to help to pay for it?!
ParkrunWithDog · 11/04/2022 20:12

We stayed in for 9 days after we tested negative other than walking the dog which we can do an avoid seeing anyone.

worriedatthistime · 13/04/2022 11:05

@familyissues12345 i positive now the app has given me 10 days and only from test date not even the symptoms
It says 5 stay home if can then further 5 avoid cev, which is well and good but anywhere public or if you do a public facing job how do you know of cev
Which i think why many are saying 10 or if they have tests doing the test until 2 x negatives

worriedatthistime · 13/04/2022 11:06

@Disgruntledpelicanlady see my app came up with 10 days what date did you test positive

Disgruntledpelicanlady · 13/04/2022 21:25

Tested positive on the 7th. App said to isolate for 5 days starting from the day after.
Even got a notification at midnight last night to say my isolation had ended.

I refuse to pay for 7 days + worth of tests. Or tests at all really. So I guess I won’t be isolating 🤷🏼‍♀️ How on earth are people still testing their entire household for 10 days?! How many bloody lateral flows did you stockpile?! No wonder they stopped them..

My DDs nursery now say 5 days from positive test, no need to re-test at the end. If well enough they can go back in on day 6.

LibrariesGiveUsPower · 13/04/2022 21:50

Isolating until we test negative, but you can still get tests for free in wales if you have symptoms

You can spread out the tests. So when I tested positive, I didn’t test again until a few days in. Same for DS. And I tested the others in the house in a similar fashion as they didn’t have any symptoms.

Have you had covid? It’s nasty and I wouldn’t wish it on many. So that’s why I would test and pay for tests.

worriedatthistime · 14/04/2022 00:59

@Disgruntledpelicanlady mine gave me 10 ? Makes no sense o tested positive on the 9th and given me until 19th april 23:59

worriedatthistime · 14/04/2022 01:12

did you register your positive with the code

worriedatthistime · 14/04/2022 08:11

I have figured it out , i just put symptoms in dh nhs app and its said you could have covid 19 and gave him the 5 days countdown from his first symptom day but i registered the test so it gave me the 10 days , what rubbish , basically we both have covid but of you don't actually test then your advised less days even though it says you likely have it ?? Can they really not see the flaw in this

If that's the case, why have we gone back to 10 days isolation - no option to come out at an earlier date with a negative test like we had been doing? Seems weird doesn't it
