How long after having Covid do they have to wait?

HelloMist · 01/04/2022 17:57

I think it's 4 weeks after a positive test. (Found in a couple of places on NHS sites).

For anyone wanting more info: the vaccine is a third of the adult dose. Children aged 5-11 having it could have a second dose 8-12 weeks after the first one.

Wigeon · 01/04/2022 18:23

It’s 12 weeks after a positive test for not vulnerable children, 4 weeks if in a risk group.

Gap between 1st and 2nd dose is 8 weeks if 5-11 and vulnerable, 12 weeks if 5-11 and not vulnerable.

Website will be updated tomorrow morning! 😉

Jules912 · 01/04/2022 19:14

Thanks, as I suspected mine will have to wait a while yet.

Rainraingoaway21 · 01/04/2022 19:33

Can you tell me how to book this please? I can't see how to book unless for a high risk child in that age group. Thankyou.

BordoisAgain · 01/04/2022 19:35

You can book through the NHS booking site. I just did it for my 9 year old

DaisyDozyDee · 01/04/2022 19:43

Just hoping they don’t assume low take up means low demand. They waited so long to make this available that many children have caught Covid and now need to wait before they can have the vaccine.

Nootkah · 01/04/2022 19:46

It was surprising at my daughter's appointment, they only had 74 bookings that whole day!

@Rainraingoaway21 - if you just click “book now” and put in your DC’s details then it will probably let you book.
DrHildegardeLanstrom · 01/04/2022 20:30

I have a high risk 8 year old and a 'normal' 11 year old and can't see anything on the nhs site

dollywoodlooksgood · 01/04/2022 21:11

I just booked for my 9 yo. They’ve not updated the landing page yet I don’t think.

Rainraingoaway21 · 01/04/2022 21:19

Great thankyou, just managed to book.

alorslanon · 01/04/2022 21:23

I just booked for my 8 and 9 yos. It doesn’t say you can, but it accepted their dates of birth and I was able to book.

alorslanon · 01/04/2022 21:23

(Also thank you- I wouldn’t have known)

allthatIcando · 01/04/2022 21:38

Given the high infection rates in schools, it might be difficult to get kids as long as 90 days without a new infection...

Wigeon · 02/04/2022 07:11

I just booked for my 6 year old, thank you!

HelloMist · 02/04/2022 12:05

Thank you @wigeon, found this out today but couldn't see the correct interval yesterday.

It's annoying they announced it right before the weekend, hard to find info on walk ins where ages might not have been updated yet! (Booking centre choices aren't very close for us).

Agreed, @allthatIcando Confused

Juzau · 02/04/2022 12:12

I managed to book for my 10 year old but my 5 year old is still ‘ineligible’. I rang the hotline but they weren’t particularly helpful. Has anyone managed to book for a 5 year old yet?

Cornettoninja · 02/04/2022 13:13

I’m still pissed off they didn’t organise this before this (very) expected wave.

My dd-6 finally caught covid last week and was iller than I expected her to be. Shes now negative but despite that still has ongoing stomach pain and disturbances to her smell (which is just a fab gift with an already fussy eater). I would have vaccinated back when they first approved it for her age group if I’d had access and potentially been able to reduce the symptoms she did have.

Now she has to wait till June and hope that she doesn’t get another dose before then because I think, quite apart from anything else, there’s no relaxation of the school attendance formula to accommodate for another illness in high circulation.

To be clear, dd was absolutely ill enough to be off for over a week. Her stomach symptoms were awful and she’s only just regained any colour in her face.

@Juzau - is your 5 year old registered with a GP? If not, you won’t be able to book online or via 119, suggest going to a walk in, find one here.

Or are they only just turned 5? You should be able to book online soon, or again, do a walk in.

savehannah · 02/04/2022 13:59

I'm not really sure what to do because my very large 11 year old (size of a 13 year old) will currently only be eligible for a paediatric dose which presumably will be less effective on his size. Do I get it anyway, or wait a couple of months for him to turn 12 and be eligible for the normal dose? If he has the paediatric dose now will that prevent him getting a normal dose later in the year? So many questions, no answers....

OnceuponaRainbow18 · 02/04/2022 14:02

I’m Not sure why as I’m fully vaccinated but I can’t decide what to do for my 5 year old. He had it 4 weeks ago and was fine, whereas after the jab I get worse than when I had covid.

likemindedarseholes · 02/04/2022 14:51

@OnceuponaRainbow18 I'm on the fence too, both kids had very mild covid and the only reason I would have bothered would be travel restrictions. Now with countries opening up and taking away most travel restrictions, I'm not sure if I'll chance it. I wasn't worried for me, but if they discover the vaccine has some long lasting side effects in 30 years, I would have made that decision for them.
