Talking to a group of friends who are split between what they now do in regards to Covid. None are CEV.

Some still testing for every symptom on either LFTs or PCRs and isolating if positive as previously required for up to 10 days (or early if neg day 6/7).

Others, like me, now not testing at all even with potential symptoms and just staying in until they feel well enough like they would have in 2019 whether that's 3 days or 10.

What are you doing now?

When tests start to cost I imagine we'll see the number of people bothering with them drop but it's been very freeing to not have to bother anymore with the circus of scrambling to find a box of gold dust lfts every time my DC or I sneezes and just treating what could be potentially Covid (I wouldn't know) like anything else.

(I appreciate the answer to this will be entirely different if you are CEV and that these people will still have access to free testing and will understandably want to do so).

I tested positive on a pre-flight test last week as did DH, tbf both of us have had mild cold-like symptoms and if we hadn't had to test I'm not sure either of us would have thought to. I'm going out to walk the dog but staying away from people but I've felt well enough to do most of my normal things from about day 5.

Sillyotter · 23/03/2022 18:31

Still testing with symptoms. My employers still requesting we stay home if positive as we can’t wfh and deal with the public. Both of us are positive at the moment so we’re isolating as per the rules when it was still law.

Theunamedcat · 23/03/2022 18:32

Testing before we see vulnerable people that's it

KnowingMeKnowingYouAhaaaa · 23/03/2022 18:35

We were never really into testing, I can count on one hand how many times our primary aged children have done a test since this time 2 years ago. We won't be testing now unless we visit my husband's elderly gran in a care home. We don't have any ltf tests and you can't order them now anyway, I did try last week to get hold of some for visiting his gran.

Dnaltocs · 23/03/2022 18:36

We test. My friends who don’t test, well we don’t see them and it’s our choice. It’s easy, my family is valuable to me and I insist we test. We wear masks, it’s not what we want to do but its easy. It’s not difficult. We know numbers are rising and we don’t want COVID.
We continue to be careful. We may eventually get COVID but we’re doing our best to avoid COVID.

angela99999 · 23/03/2022 18:37

I would test if I had symptoms but have had none for months. DD doesn't test DGC even if they have symptoms which does worry me as my DH has dodgy heart (though fully vaccinated and boosted). We're due for the second booster soon and will leap at the chance.

Watapalava · 23/03/2022 18:39

We don’t test, never did unless for holiday flight

Had covid and not bothered about getting it again. Had party last week and two guests came with covid - really not arsed as I’m triple vax. I honestly think people are off their heads with health anxiety who worry if vaccinated - the data shows the risk is miniscule

My attitude has never changed

This virus has always been a virus affecting largely 70+ and those CEV- they’ve all had time to be triple vax too so are no longer CEV to covid

whymewhyme · 23/03/2022 18:43

Not testing, we need get back to normal.

Mandyjack · 23/03/2022 18:46

Not sure what CEV means but I am testing it I have potential symptoms as I am part of the ZOE COVID research group. Usually if you report any potential symptoms they send you a request to order a PCR but it's not mandatory. I do have some LFTs that I've used before too. If I tested positive I'd isolate

csigeek · 23/03/2022 18:48

Testing if symptoms, will isolate if positive. DH works for the NHS in hospital/on wards, so extremely mindful of people he would come into contact with. He is still testing every 3 days regardless, I think this is still NHS policy

Mandyjack · 23/03/2022 18:49

Even if you are tripled vaxed you can still be clinically vulnerable. It only minimises the risk it's not a guarantee. If you have a suppressed immune system that doesn't change by having vaccines

EliyanahM · 23/03/2022 18:50

Being vaccinated does not slow the spread of COVID. Being vaccinated means that when you get COVID, it will be milder and you will recover better. When you get COVID, you will spread it just the same as anyone else including those who are unvaccinated. I'm vaccinated btw.

LostFrog · 23/03/2022 18:51

I do think we probably need to start treating it like any other illness now, yes, so I won’t be testing unless kids or us are poorly enough to be off school.
We’ve all had it though, and so has pretty much everyone we know, so I am a bit ‘meh’ about it…

FantasticFebruary · 23/03/2022 18:52

@Madhairday

that's why I said it will be different if you're CEV because you won't need to pay

This is not true. A subset of CEV people will have access to free testing, the most critically vulnerable ie immunosuppressed, but the vast majority of CEV people will not.

I am CEV. I will still test when I have symptoms or have been a close contact because I need to know to keep an eye on my sats as I can get very sick very quickly and it would give me time to try and get the antivirals if they would give them to me (again, they're not for all CEV people, so many of us are now out in the cold, boosters waning, no booster on the horizon.)

Don't people spout a lot if shit! As a CEV I won't be getting free tests either, I'm assuming that's only for the top 550,000.

But lots of posters no longer give a shit if they make us very ill, or worse, good to know isn't it.

Given the shortage of anti vitals, I'm not convinced we'd get them now.

It's not that easy to 'take responsibility for ourselves' when others won't wear masks, tests or anything else.

Thank you to the few who are still wearing masks & trying to help us CEV 🌸

FoxyFoxyLoxy · 23/03/2022 18:53

I am just out of an isolation period for covid. had cold symptoms but not those listed on the website which are still fever, cough and change of taste/smell. PCR to confirm - but only because I have a testing centre very close by. Tested again on day 6/7 to get out of isolation.

DH developed symptoms 48 hours after me and didn't test at all - what would be the point? I won't be testing again I don't think.

Dentistlakes · 23/03/2022 18:54

I’ll test before seeing my elderly parents, but otherwise, no. If I’m unwell I’ll stay home as I would before, but I’m not going to continue to test on a regular basis.

Longingforatikihut · 23/03/2022 18:55

Work for NHS so still lft, but only with symptoms. I'll follow the rules, depending on what they are if I am positive. But 2 years in and I've never been positive. I have had every non-covid cold going though.

HandlebarLadyTash · 23/03/2022 18:56

I've only tested once & that was because I had to go into work for a day & the policy was to test before going in. If I get covid symptoms I will do a test other than than no testing for me.

Munkki · 23/03/2022 18:59

I am testing only if I get symptoms and that is only because I would be curious to see if I finally got covid.

AnnesBrokenSlate · 23/03/2022 18:59

iirc schools are legally responsible for providing a safe workplace for their staff. Atm there are so many teachers off ill with Covid. But then it's unsurprising if there are people like the OP deliberately putting others at risk.
It's a complete shit show and I've been so disappointed to see how many selfish arses there are. Sometimes I hope they're all paid or bots because that would make more sense than there being so many people willing to sacrifice everyone's longterm health so a few wealthy commercial property owners in London can maintain their bank balances.
Even all the delivery drivers here have started masking again because the numbers are so high and because they all know someone who is quite ill with Covid atm.

Beautifulmonster87 · 23/03/2022 19:00

Tested couple of weeks ago husband had migraine.. positive. Sent son to nursery then he tested positive so kept him off but only for 5 days whilst he was actually poorly. I tested positive and I’ve not been to work (nhs) but have been out and about. Not seen anyone until today (day 11 and am negative). Will go to work tomorrow.

hedgehogger1 · 23/03/2022 19:02

Testing with symptoms. Every adult I know that has had it has been properly ill with it and quite a lot of the kids too

hyder · 23/03/2022 19:02

There is also research that the vaccine is causing long term side affects, heart problems and strokes etc..... 🤷‍♀️

Finallylostit · 23/03/2022 19:03

NHS so testing and still mask wearing on the Tube am also CV - so am being sensible

Would like to thank the idiot woman who got on the tube today, held her mask in her hand and proceeded to cough over everyone around her for the next 4 stops.

Alexandra2001 · 23/03/2022 19:05

Govt is full on Living with Covid, me testing or not is irrelevant, esp as few SD or wear a mask.

Ukraine has removed CV from our horizon, despite admissions up and people getting it more seriously as vaxx wear off.
