Being honest, who else is doing this?

Talking to a group of friends who are split between what they now do in regards to Covid. None are CEV.

Some still testing for every symptom on either LFTs or PCRs and isolating if positive as previously required for up to 10 days (or early if neg day 6/7).

Others, like me, now not testing at all even with potential symptoms and just staying in until they feel well enough like they would have in 2019 whether that's 3 days or 10.

What are you doing now?

When tests start to cost I imagine we'll see the number of people bothering with them drop but it's been very freeing to not have to bother anymore with the circus of scrambling to find a box of gold dust lfts every time my DC or I sneezes and just treating what could be potentially Covid (I wouldn't know) like anything else.

(I appreciate the answer to this will be entirely different if you are CEV and that these people will still have access to free testing and will understandably want to do so).

@ExMachinaDeus

I'm not testing, so I'll never know if I'm positive or not.

If you have symptoms and you feel you really have to go out in public amongst other people, just WEAR A FUCKING MASK.

It’s not much to do to ensure you don’t cough sneeze or or breathe your nasty germs over everyone else.

Nah, I won't, thanks.
FTEngineerM · 25/03/2022 13:16

Not testing or not wearing a mask isn’t the same as tax or benefit fraud. Not sure how it’s exploiting the system

I think they’re thinking about it in the sense that.. for tax/benefits to work some people have to put tax properly.

Just like for the virus to not spread like wildfire some people have to wear masks/isolate/hide away.

WouldBeGood · 25/03/2022 13:22

If you believe masks help, just take a cursory glance at Scotland, where everyone has the Covid, despite constant masking

MangyInseam · 25/03/2022 16:42
@dorisdohnson it scares me to be honest - not for us in particular but several friends are high risk and one other has a high risk child. They all say they are going to be very wary of meeting people once the tests are gone, which seems to be around now unless people stockpiled ahead Sad
I really wonder though how realistic people who think this way are being. LFTs aren't all that reliable for asymptomatic people, which is a lot of people who get vaccinated. The fact is that if they are seeing people they are going to be exposed to covid.

HardyBuckette · 25/03/2022 16:45

True, and also I do think some people overestimate how much genuine LFT testing and isolation was going on even back when the latter was a legal requirement.

BritWifeInUSA · 25/03/2022 16:59

I’ve had one COVID test on my life - and that was because it was required to board a cruise ship. Otherwise I wouldn’t have have done it.

I just don’t get this obsession with constant testing. Do they feel the same way about other viruses?

BritWifeInUSA · 25/03/2022 17:00

I don’t wear a mask either.

PurpleDaisies · 25/03/2022 17:06

I’m not likely to have other viruses asymptomatically and be able to pass it on to the lovely 90 year old I regularly spend a couple of hours with indoors. Covid is circulating at light levels at the moment. Why wouldn’t I reduce the risk to her of catching it when she’s so much more likely to have a bad outcome?

PurpleDaisies · 25/03/2022 17:08

“Light levels” should say “high levels”. Silly autocorrect.

HardyBuckette · 25/03/2022 17:10

What makes you think you're not likely to have other viruses asymptomatically, out of interest? My understanding was that there are always viruses circulating and that people often have them without symptoms, but as we don't test for most of them we often wouldn't know.
PurpleDaisies · 25/03/2022 17:16

Sorry, should have been clearer. At the moment, very high levels of covid, but low levels of flu circulating. That’s why my risk of passing covid on is of greater concern to me.

HardyBuckette · 25/03/2022 17:19

Ah ok thanks for the clarification. I did know about flu, but with you mentioning other viruses I thought you might've meant something wider. Agree flu wouldn't be a huge concern at the moment.

Jeannie88 · 25/03/2022 21:10

Nothing, of we're not feeling well, usual care at home, whether covid or anything else. Have worked out there in real world throughout and in rooms with kids and adults without masks do what's the point unless of course in vulnerable. Just get on with it if vaccinated, we have all had it or will get it. X

Benjispruce5 · 25/03/2022 21:13

Lots of us have had to test weekly or twice weeks for work, it’s not an obsession with testing.

trainnane · 25/03/2022 23:24

I tested as I felt rough and was due to have a long meeting with someone heavily pregnant. I'm positive & glad I didn't pass it on.
But rare that I test and I won't be paying

frenchiemummy92 · 26/03/2022 01:02

We currently have covid in the house.
Testing but if we feel well enough going for walks in the country side avoiding people.

We won't be testing when tests are no longer free though. It will be a case of if we feel unwell stay home but as soon as we feel better back to normal.

Benjispruce5 · 26/03/2022 07:02

I managed to get some LFTs on the gov site late last night. I think they issue a set American each day so try late or early next morning.

Benjispruce5 · 26/03/2022 07:03

Amount not American!

Tynetime · 26/03/2022 07:24

Yeah. I have been trying for days but just ordered some. Local council even run out when handing out at local Sainsbury's

Rowgtfc72 · 26/03/2022 08:02

Just ordered some. Dh has covid. Need to know if he's passed it on as we're away this week.

Helloevans3 · 26/03/2022 08:49

Testing of course with lateral flows. Otherwise how do you know could be a cold a virus. We have had two years of free. Not too much to ask in the scheme of things to pay now. Some countries never had free ones.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 26/03/2022 08:51

Not too much to ask in the scheme of things to pay now.

Fine for those who can afford it. I'm sure with everything going up LFTs will be bottom of the list of priorities for most people!

HardyBuckette · 26/03/2022 09:07

Not too much to ask in the scheme of things to pay now.

So very subjective that generalisations are pointless.

Lilaclavenders · 26/03/2022 09:09

Otherwise how do you know could be a cold a virus.

Would it make a difference to most people? Probably not!

How many more weeks/months/years are we going to be testing for covid? This virus and its variants will stay with us for many years..!

PurpleDaisies · 26/03/2022 09:13

How many more weeks/months/years are we going to be testing for covid?

It might seem sensible not to stop when we’re currently at the crazy levels in the community we’ve got right now
