I think my 10 week old has Covid

DH and I have been positive all week. DD has been a bit snotty, a bit sneezy, but nothing significant. Today she has slept pretty much all day and is hard to wake (I've been trying to feed every two hours). No temperature or coughing, but just not her usual alert self.

Should I be doing anything I'm not already?

I wouldn't test her for covid. Treat it like any other virus, and give calpol, offer milk more and comfort.

numberthirtytwowindsorgardens · 18/03/2022 16:18

Can I give her calpol? It says on the bottle for 3m and over. I wasn't going to test her - I suppose my question is really 'should I be worried/calling the doc'?

Thank you for the advice!

If she's hard to wake I would be taking her straight to a and e or the very least calling 111.
Baby's get unwell very quickly from infections whatever it is I would get it checked out ASAP, especially if she's not feeding.

Abcdefu · 18/03/2022 16:29

Hope she's OK. They can have calpol from 4kg so depends on weight rather than age

This. For your own peace of mind if nothing else.
ocd6 · 18/03/2022 16:30

Agree with pp. If she's hard to wake you should seek medical advice regardless of whether it's covid or not.

whysoserious123 · 18/03/2022 16:40

Medical advice immediately

numberthirtytwowindsorgardens · 18/03/2022 16:41

She's awake now - should I still call 111? Surely A and E wouldn't let us in anyway - I for one am certainly still positive?

Hospitals are still open for covid positive people! Just tell them on arrival.

TheLovleyChebbyMcGee · 18/03/2022 16:44

Is call 111. I think our baby had it around 10 weeks, his older rather, dh and I all tested positive, but baby didn't despite being unwell, snotty, congested etc

He was fine though, just wanted cuddles and milk, wasn't sleeping much at all tbh so I wasn't too worried. But in your case I'd call, just to name sure!

sofakingcool · 18/03/2022 16:49

I'd call 111, you can't be too cautious with little ones, especially if she doesn't seem as alert as usual.

She's probably ok and just needs a bit of extra TLC, but still worth getting some medical advice - so you know what to look out for. Good luck, hope she's ok Thanks

Siepie · 18/03/2022 16:50

You can still go to A&E with covid. At ours they have a sign directing people with covid symptoms to a different entrance. Don't put off getting medical care due to having an illness!

In your position I'd call 111 and see what they say

Genevieve99 · 18/03/2022 16:53

Yes definitely call 111, me and my 9 month old have covid so I called them yesterday because she seemed very poorly. She was drowsy and lethargic with a fever. They decided to send paramedics over and I felt quite silly because she perked up before they got to us and was absolutely fine but they were happy to make sure that she was okay. 111 are very helpful and I think it’s best to be safe if your DD is only ten weeks old

MalbecandToast · 18/03/2022 17:02

As your baby is so young please take them to be checked out, better to be safe than sorry.

Nelliephant1 · 18/03/2022 17:14

Call 111 at tye very least but A&E would be better. If she's been that sleepy and not really eating or drinking then she needs seen tonight.

Wagsandclaws · 18/03/2022 17:20

If she's awake and seems alert then I wouldn't take her directly to A and E , what I would do though is call 111 and get their advice as to how to proceed, if she's awake it's not an emergency and you usually have to go through 111 who will tell you to either take her to out of hours or A and E.

If she goes back to sleep fairly quickly without feeding then I'd possibly think about skipping 111 but not unless she goes straight back to sleep.

Please Do ring 111 though if you don't go to A and E

numberthirtytwowindsorgardens · 18/03/2022 17:22

Just got off the phone to 111 - a doctor will call me back within half an hour.

Thank you all very much for your advice - I feel a bit less silly for worrying now!

If you have lat tests I would test them, why would you not?
Then at least you know and can keep an eye on.
Will they get some protection from your milk do you think?

numberthirtytwowindsorgardens · 18/03/2022 18:11

I would hope so, @BadHairDayExpert - I'm triple jabbed, though that was some time ago now, and having had covid this week should hopefully have some antibodies?

Just called 111 again - they say they will call back but not sure when.

Hope you are managing OP: if it is any consolation, I nursed my newborn when I had swine flu as she was ebf and no harm came to her.
God bless Brew [cake ]

I phoned as a GP to alert ED I was sending up an ill covid positive patient. The nurse in the other end said " they're all positive...send her up! "
Musicaltheatremum · 18/03/2022 19:38

One of my work colleagues took the snotty discharge from her son's nose and shoved the swab into it. Far less stressful. If you can get some nasal discharge on a tissue you could test that.

numberthirtytwowindsorgardens · 18/03/2022 19:45

Thanks all 😊 currently waiting for the doctor to see her. She is now, of course, awake for the first time today!

I really appreciate all the support and advice!
