Close Contact.. do I have time to stock up?

Morning all. So my FWB text me this morning to say he has tested positive. I saw him yesterday afternoon.
I've just done a test and still negative.

It's extremely likely that I have caught it from him.

Would it be ethical to run to the shops after work today to stock up on the things I need for my inevitable isolation? I'm in Scotland so this still applies and also I'll be wearing a mask round the supermarket.

I don't think I'm a risk to anyone yet but I know I'm probably starting to incubate it as we speak. It'll be 24hrs since "exposure".

Thanks all.

I tested positive last Thursday having caught it off DC who showed symptoms on the Monday ( tested positive Tues).
I ordered an online shopping delivery rather than go out, but was fortunate that I was able to get one for the next day.

Jules912 · 08/03/2022 11:37

I'd say it's fine if you wear a mask and try to stay away from people. If you're particularly worried do a test just before. I had similar where I had to get her medication when DD had it.

emmathedilemma · 08/03/2022 11:42

You don't have to self isolate as a close contact in Scotland if you've had your vaccines. The advice is to LFT for 7 days so nothing wrong with going shopping today if you've done a test and it's negative.

DespairingHomeowner · 08/03/2022 11:50

Can you get a delivery instead? Co op do same day deliveries

KnackeredNurse · 08/03/2022 12:15

@emmathedilemma

I've had my first 2 but not my booster. In Scotland, "fully vaccinated" means all 3. So technically....

Thanks everyone. I feel fine, but I'll arrange an online shop Smile

It really isn't - what makes you think that?

I can't believe people are still putting up with this nonsense in some places Confused

KnackeredNurse · 08/03/2022 12:58

@bluepeacock

Well he had his tongue down my throat so I think it's a fairly safe assumption to make Grin

You wouldn't be infectious yet & you may not catch it anyway (DS didn't catch it from his girlfriend in spite of being locked away in isolation together for a week).

My partner hasn't got it yet. I tested positive Saturday and we are still sleeping in the same bed.

KnackeredNurse · 08/03/2022 16:53

That's reassuring! Fingers crossed.

Never got it off my DH either and we were intimate. Fingers crossed.

littlepeas · 08/03/2022 18:14

My ds literally breathed into my nose (to prove he’d brushed his teeth…) and I didn’t catch it.

dementedpixie · 08/03/2022 18:20

I never caught it from dh when he had it and we shared the bed. Go get your shopping wearing a mask

Jules912 · 08/03/2022 18:30

I didn't catch it when my daughter literally sneezed into my face ( and I had my mouth open at the time)!

EarringsandLipstick · 08/03/2022 19:46

It's hard to believe posts like this are still a thing.

KnackeredNurse · 09/03/2022 05:48

The next morning...
Woke up with a snotty nose and sore throat. LFT still negative.

honestly you don't need to test or isolate - just get on with your life like everyone else. This level of concern is ridiculous

Actually in Scotland you ^do need to test and isolate unless triple vaccinated
Buzzinwithbez · 09/03/2022 10:29

That was the whole point of masks - to protect people from people who were asymptomatic. You have no covid symptoms and have tested negative.

BigSandyBalls2015 · 09/03/2022 10:31

You won't necessarily get it. I didn't catch it from my god-daughter despite sharing a water bottle/holding her hand/being shut in a hot car with no windows open. It's very random.

AnnaSW1 · 09/03/2022 10:32

I live with and share a bed with my partner he's had it three times. I haven't caught it from him once. Neither have our kids

ifonly4 · 09/03/2022 11:16

When DH tested positive, the first thing I did was to test myself and go out and stock up on food. Obviously allowed to do it anyway if negative/no symptoms and vaccinated, but I went at 7.30am when it was quiet, wore my mask, tried to keep away from others and sanitised. I know some wouldn't go into work, but my job in a school required me to go in unless I was positive/feeling ill, so I was at far less risk with my precautions in the supermarket than at work.

and under current scottish guidance she's a close contact of someone who's tested positive and hasn't had 3 jabs and is therefore required to self isolate for 10 days. Maybe if everyone followed the rules as she's planning to do we would never have been going through this for so long!
KnackeredNurse · 09/03/2022 14:24

Aaaaaand I'm positive. Sad Marvellous.
On the plus side, my online shop is arriving this afternoon. Thank you everyone for your help and advice.
