Test completely negative until dead on 30 mins

Hi all can someone help me. I currently have covid and have been testing dd as its impossible for me to isolate away from her. Tested her this morning and it was a clear negative. It was infront of me for the whole 30 mins. Then I held to the light to double check and couldn't see a line then went to register it and there was a line. Has anyone else's taken this long to show from a clear negative. I know this is probably a stupid question but because I have it you don't think I could have contaminated the test in anyway do you? Because I coughed as I was holding it to the light and attempted to put my arm around my mouth when doing so and may have gone on the test but the test would have already worked by then surley so no droplets would have infected it? I only have 1 test left until some more come hopefully tomorrow.

That isn’t faint. A faint line doesn’t show up on a camera without work!

She’s defiantly positive

Miracle29 · 06/03/2022 15:49

The one I've just taken is fainter than the one I've posted and came up after 30 mins. As she has symptoms and I've no idea what do about school I'll do pcr be on the safe side i think

Wow no thats a clear line!!!

Our "faint" was when you had to hold up to the light to see it.

pickingdaisies · 06/03/2022 21:08

It does say 15-30 minutes wait time. I don't think coughing near it would contaminate it like that

CowsAreNotGreen · 06/03/2022 21:10

They can be quite faint.

Copasetic · 06/03/2022 21:12

I used to work in a covid testing centre and we were told that we had to read the test at 30 minutes only (we had to set a timer) and if the positive appeared after this time we still had to register as negative. In practice I always found that a positive appeared very quickly (within minutes) if it was positive.

Copasetic · 06/03/2022 21:13

I say that is a definite line though and not faint so I'd take that as a positive personally.

Madmog · 07/03/2022 07:44

It does sound like she has it, two positive results in a day can't be wrong, and she has symptoms. It'll be a case of following guidelines, test her on day 5 and wait for two negative results.

I actually know someone who only had one positive LFT. Definitely had it though as had to get PCR for work and family went on to catch it.

Miracle29 · 07/03/2022 08:13

Thanks everyone she had coughing fits throughout the night. Tests are coming today so I can start testing myself again as I'm now day 5. Rang school they've advised a pcr so ordered one as she won't go to a test centre because she gets really upset and I really don't feel well enough in myself to take her.

I thought you were supposed to decide result at 14-18 minutes afterwards, what the test stick looks like outside that time window is not valid or reliable.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 07/03/2022 09:02

i thought you werent meant to look after 30 minutes as it was no longer accurate

DaisyTheUnicorn · 07/03/2022 09:14

She has symptoms, is unwell and living with someone with covid. It's all quite likely isnt it?

I think charging for lfts will stop the faffing eventually (some dont work/reliability/which day it shows up erc.)

Shes ill and needs to be off school which OP is doing. And ordered a pcr as current school guidelines. Outside of school could just take the time needed to recover now .

Good luck OP. Its horrible being ill and repsponsible for another child who is also ill.

lljkk · 07/03/2022 09:20

hmmm... guess I'm wrong. Would have sworn you record the result at 15 minutes not before or after. there was a little timer diagram about this to say so. Too much headache !!

OutlookStalking · 07/03/2022 09:31

Lljkk I think Ive seent that too. I think over the last 18months there were different tests produced. Pretty sure we've got a good selection still 😆

TigerLilyTail · 07/03/2022 09:35

I always assumed it was like pregnancy tests, a faint line was still a positive but line after the allotted time didn't count. That might be bullshit though!!

Miracle29 · 07/03/2022 09:44

@daisytheunicorn thankyou.

Some tests are read at 15 minutes I think. I've got the throat and nose which say read at 30. These lines are taking the full 30 minutes to appear though. When mine was faint I could see it in 15 minutes and the next day was dark within seconds

NewMum0305 · 07/03/2022 09:49

If she’s got symptoms, living with some whose positive, and had two positive LFTs, even if just after the time limit, the chances surely are that she’s positive. Do you need to subject her to a PCR? x

PrivateHall · 07/03/2022 11:01

I would definitely treat her as positive. You say the testing upsets her? Personally I would leave it at that and treat her as positive. Good luck op Flowers

Miracle29 · 07/03/2022 11:25

Sorry should have been more specific, it's not the testing that upsets her that doesn't seem to bother her. It's the test centre she doesn't like.

PrivateHall · 07/03/2022 13:31

Aw sorry op Flowers Anyway, I hope everyone is better very soon.

Miracle29 · 07/03/2022 16:05

Thankyou
