I've got covid, now what?

So I just did two positive lft tests today and have come home from work to start isolation (company policy)
There's just me and DH at home, no kids, I'm a bit embarrassed to admit I don't really know what to do to try and keep DH safe, ie, should I be wiping everything down constantly, sleeping on the sofa, not cooking for us both??
Anyone else been in this position and if so, what did you do?

I tested positive last night, I'm mature student at uni so not going in to campus. Live in a small house with DH and two teen DC.

Slightly different for us as DH and DS had covid about 6 weeks ago. I didn't catch it from DH despite sharing a bed, bathroom and eating meals together. We had discussed previously and agreed that isolating from each other in our house was not feasible.

I'm currently tucked up in bed with my laptop and he's downstairs working on the dining room table - usually he works from the world's tiniest desk in the corner of our bedroom.

RhinestoneCowgirl · 03/03/2022 12:30

If either of us had been particularly vulnerable we would probably have made more of an effort, but we are both in our 40s and fully vaccinated with no other health conditions.

KezzabellaB · 03/03/2022 12:35

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking too, whether or not it's feasible to actually isolate away from him anyway, we only have a small house -one toilet etc.
How are you feeling Cowgirl? I'm not too bad at present. I've got cold symptoms, but don't know if that's cos I've just got a cold and no covid symptoms so far, or if my cold symptoms are covid IYSWIM? I'm triple jabbed anyway so hoping I won't feel too much worse than I do at present!

Welcome to the COVID club! I'm on Day 6 and have so far avoided passing it on to OH or DC.

OH is sleeping on the sofa.

I'm predominantly staying in bed (browsing MN!). If I need the loo or a cup of tea, I put on a mask and hand gel before leaving the bedroom.

I'm not eating with the family at the dining table and we are all practicing extra hand hygiene.

dementedpixie · 03/03/2022 12:39

I never caught it from dh when he had it and we shared the bed and living room. The kids never caught it either but they are teens and avoided us anyway

KindlyKanga · 03/03/2022 12:39

You and him have to decide if its worth trying to completely isolate. We tried it but he got it anyway as our house isn't set up to be split into two!

howdidigettobe50something · 03/03/2022 12:40

I had Covid a few weeks ago. I was quite poorly but DH didn't isolate from me and didn't catch it either.

Flipping covid. I was honestly starting to think I was immune and then today -wallop. Meh!!! Are you in bed because you feel poorly or to get out of the way ? 😂

I tested positive 18/02 and felt so ill that night. DH and I live alone in a bungalow so not much space to isolate from each other. Te tested positive 19/02 and then we both sat on the sofa all day feeling sorry for ourselves.. Then both felt so, so ill!
I finally tested negative yesterday, he did a couple of days earlier than me..
See how he goes, he might come down with it anyway!

ParkheadParadise · 03/03/2022 12:43

I didn't pass it on to dh or dd when I had covid.
I didn't isolate myself from them.
I had covid in October and was ill with it(now have long covid) I was always surprised they never caught it.
Hope you are ok.

KezzabellaB · 03/03/2022 12:47

Thanks for the replies! I'm waiting to see what he wants to do when he gets back from work in relation to isolation. Weirdly enough he has exactly the same symptoms as me but all his tests are negative. So strange. I think he's expecting to get it though!

My DH got it last week. We decided not to bother with him isolating in the house as I felt it was inevitable I would get it and easier if we both had it at the same time. Have not isolated from the DC either but neither showing any symptoms… yet! I started with it two days after DH.

Yeah that's the general feedback I've had, that if he gets it, it's likely to be a couple of days later. I know what you mean about getting it at the same time being easier too. Hope you're both on the mend now!

I've been isolating, but it's been an easier decision because we have a spare room and bathroom. I have been staying up here and having all my meals brought to me BlushGrin

My teenager and husband have stayed negative, though like you my husband has similar symptoms. I could work from home, but I'm a bit muddle headed and really tired, so haven't been. I have been reading a lot of Mumsnet. Determined to get dressed before having my lunch today, but here I am...

EducatingArti · 03/03/2022 13:11

Covid club here too! Second time in 3 months for me! Live alone so no worries about infecting others but it isn't much fun. Also spending a lot of time in bed!

JamMakingWannaBe · 03/03/2022 13:24

Thankfully I have mild symptoms. I'm sure I could be up and about more than I am but it's not often I'm sick, so I will admit to taking advantage of that. The advice in avoiding long COVID, is to take it easy - so I am.

I'm in Scotland so I COULD break quarantine tomorrow IF my LFT was negative today.... but it wasn't.

That's the first time I've felt OH is pissed off about the situation.

PegasusReturns · 03/03/2022 13:27

You just need to make a decision about whether to isolate from DH or not.

Personally I didn’t bother when DH did and neither me nor 4DC got it. Then teen DC got it over Christmas and we carried on as normal no one else got it. Same again last week when DD2 got it.

Florin · 03/03/2022 13:30

Second time in three months for us too, neither time we isolated. First time I tested positive on the same day as ds, dh never got it even though we shared a bed even drank out of the same cup a couple of times and didn’t do any extra cleaning to normal. Husband made sure he stayed away from people and wore a mask inside and only went very quickly to one shop twice when we needed essentials.
Second time tested ds due to so many kids having at school we had symptoms the next day and both dh and I positive 2 days after ds.

We are all isolating but may go out for walks as in a very quiet rural area where we are unlikely to see anyone but out of interest (no judgement either way) but are people still isolating or just getting on with it if feel well enough? Or what do people think is ok to do or not do?

TokyoSushi · 03/03/2022 13:30

When I had it a few weeks ago, I just lived as normal in the house, nobody else got it

Scottishgirl85 · 03/03/2022 13:34

I have it at mo. Fever, cough and cold symptoms, but have been working from home throughout. I am trying to keep away from family (DH and 2 young daughters) only because isolation is such a pain, missing school, clubs etc. The illness itself is fine for most people, it's the isolation that's a pain.

ancientgran · 03/03/2022 13:41

I've got it and I feel terrible. I'm my husbands carer so not much chance of isolating. We are staying apart as much as we can. I just want to sleep but can't as the coughing is so bad.

Poor you. Hope you feel better soon and your cough improves!

I think this is the thing, I was convinced I only had a cold and only did an lft because it's company policy to keep doing regular tests. I personally am not planning on going anywhere like shops etc, but may go out for walks as I'll be able to keep away from people.

This is what I'm leaning towards but only if DH agrees too 😂

I had it in jan and ds18 we did isolate as my other son and dh were going out to work and mixing
I had hardly any symptoms though and just did a pcr as ds18 had it and I never felt right
I never ever tested positive on a LFT though only the PCR , DS tested positive on both
