Has anyone had their U16 teen vaccinated less than 12 weeks from positive test?

We are hoping to go skiing - our 15 yo has had one jab and had Covid over Christmas. Her 12 weeks from positive test is 17 March and we’re hoping to fly on 25 March which is obviously less than 2 weeks later. Has anyone tried taking their child to be jabbed earlier than 12 weeks after a positive test? Do they check the record?

Yes they check and you should be turned away. That said, I've heard of odd successes, all you can do is try.

They will ask, but they have no way of checking if you say it's more than 12 weeks. The Covid tests results do not appear on the vaccination data entry screen. However, if your vaccination centre is strict on the 12 week gap between vaccines they will turn you away as the previous vaccine dose will get visible to them.

Mines just had him, they checked when we attended.

applegate79 · 26/02/2022 17:51

Sorry if you’re already aware of this but depending on where you’re going recovery and one vaccine is acceptable for some countries - the French app accepts it instead of 2 vaccines.

TuscanApothecary · 26/02/2022 17:53

It's in your child's best interests to wait until 12 week clear. Why would you want to risk the health implications (myocardial) from getting jabbed sooner because of a holiday?

Piggy42 · 26/02/2022 17:55

I’m really concerned about this. Going forwards, without lft’s/PCR’s how will we know? My ds isn’t due a vaccine for a couple of months, will it be a big problem if they’re vaxed within 12 weeks of having Covid.

Fluffyflowerpot · 26/02/2022 17:57

Her first vaccination was ages ago (September) so that’s not a problem - it’s just the positive Covid test

They have the dates in front of them it’s unlikely.

As it will be a few days under the 12 weeks I do not think it will make the slightest difference, otherwise I wouldn’t consider it.

Unfortunately the entry requirements for Germany only allow for recovery certificates for 3 months/12 weeks which of course also runs out on 17th March - the timing is immaculate Confused

I thought it was 28 days from having covid and 12 weeks from first vaccine dose?

That would be amazing but I think for 12-15 it is the full 12 weeks after a positive Covid test

I miscalculated when I took dd for her 2nd jab and it was 11 weeks 5 days after a positive test. They said that they really weren't allowed to do it if it was under 12 weeks, but was I really sure I hadn't mixed my dates up. What do you know, I thought about it and it turned out she was 12 weeks and 1 day after her positive. Grin

They said they don't have details of positive tests so rely on people telling them the relevant date. This was at a nightingale vaccination centre. Hope that helps!

Soontobe60 · 26/02/2022 18:18

My hairdresser had her DD done after she’d had Covid. She had it done a week before she should have - inadvertantly - and her DD had a bad reaction for about 4 days.
My own DD (over 25) tried to have her 2nd at 11 weeks - they sent her away!

Cookerhood · 26/02/2022 18:27

They don't have the dates of Covid infection, just the previous vaccination. I am a vaccinator & very familiar with this.
Watapalava · 26/02/2022 20:14

They do not have pcr data - no way of knowing if kids have had covid thi they do ask

Both my teens were done 4 weeks after covid recently

That was the actual time frame in November when most kids had their first dose

Don’t forget thousands likely have had vax with covid as a symptomatic

Watapalava · 26/02/2022 20:15

Cooker is there any lee way with second dose as I need ds to have his 11.3 days from first dose?

Cookerhood · 26/02/2022 22:28

It will be up to the clinical lead at the site. We wouldn't.

JanglyBeads · 26/02/2022 22:40

Vaccinators in school have access to PCR test results

JanglyBeads · 26/02/2022 22:53

No, forget that post, I was misremembering anyway!

Watapalava · 26/02/2022 22:55

It’s so odd and mixed

I know loads who managed to get their second dose earlier yet vax people on here always say no

I need to find a centre that allows a bit of flexibility

Me too @Watapalava - am beginning to feel like your user name 😂 (thanks everyone for your advice)

Like @Watapalava my son had his first vaccination when the advice was 28 days after infection and he was about 5 weeks. He then had his second 9 weeks later so we could travel.

All fine.

I took my 12 yo and it turned out we were about two or three days early but they checked with whoever was in charge at the vaccine place and they let us go ahead.
I'm sure when I booked it online it didn't say anything about being three months post infection or I would have counted days and booked the appointment accordingly. It was a surprise when we got there and they asked.
