Just wondered has anyone had any guidance from their children's school about the new rules and isolation. We haven't and I think it's a bit odd

I work in a school. No testing twice a week anymore but children should test if they have symptoms and follow guidance if test positive- 5 days isolation then can return with 2 consecutive negative tests, otherwise 19 days.

@clarkkentsglasses

Letter last night. In-line with new government rules all testing, masks and isolation scrapped. Thank the Lord!

But ... as with any sickness, don't be a dick.

The school is choosing to ignore DfE guidance then.

I'm glad I teach at a school that will.

I don't think some parents can grasp the difference between it no longer being a legal requirement to isolate if you're positive, and not coming to school because health protection agencies, your LA and the DfE tell you not to. Pretty sure you can't just march your known positive child into school and demand that they be allowed to stay because it's no longer illegal to walk around with COVID.

Schools are a whole different germ fest to most normal life situations. They require different guidelines. And head teachers will abide by them.

Yes luckily my school keeps sending out emails reminding parents. My sons school haven’t said a thing and my other sons nursery said kids with covid who feel fine can go in!!!!!

OutlookStalking · 04/03/2022 07:21

Ours have reiterated guidance however as most kids I know who had it either didnt know they had it or had cold symptoms then I doubt 90% of people with it would even know/test so it becoems a bir pointless.

I think those with proper symptoms (bad cold/throat hurting) will stay off as you would with vomiting or other illness. But most people wont purely because they dont know!!

DD is a teacher and her school have told staff a f students to stay home if they have covid. They're also still doing LFTs at school twice a week but they're not compulsory. DD says most kids are doing them though.

Good point. We have had no communication from ours re Covid since the mandatory isolation period was dropped. However they stopped reminding people to do two tests a week quite a while ago, and I imagine most have stopped. They did give out two boxes of tests per child before half term but i suspect they were clearing out their supplies as some were the older style ones. They haven't said anything about what to do if you test positive so I assume they are leaving up to parental discretion. I will not be testing my kids unless they are ill.

raspberryjamchicken · 04/03/2022 08:05

Absolutely nothing has changed from the previous guidance.

OutlookStalking · 04/03/2022 08:37

Yup we won't be testing unless ill.

My kids and friends kids were only picked up as contacts so likely most wont be picked up and covid will be (is) rife. However Im okay with that balance.

OutlookStalking · 04/03/2022 08:38

Ours HAS changed in that they were proving and encourgimg 2x weekly tests for.secondary and now that isnt funded.

Tbh I dont know anyone who was still doing that...
