Post Covid Vertigo

Anyone else? I tested positive for Covid almost 8 weeks ago. Had a mild illness and went back to work after my 10 day isolation. Felt ok, a bit tired, for a week or so and then boom - dizziness, vertigo and headaches hit me like a tonne of bricks. I've been off work ever since - that was 4 weeks ago, I still have 2 weeks left on my sick note and if things don't improve I don't know how I'll go back to work - I can't even drive without going very dizzy and feeling like I could vomit. Has anyone else had this symptom? Please tell me there's a light at the end of the tunnel!

Have you been checked for an ear infection?

I had Covid in January 2020 and I ended up with a secondary ear infection. I felt very nauseous and dizzy and was prescribed antibiotics by the doctor after a phone consultation. It seemed to improve things. I'm still not sure what symptoms were Covid and what symptoms were from the ear infection. It was a pretty grim time.

I didn't have ear pain just nausea, dizziness and a feeling of a lot of fluid inside my head/ears.

I hope you feel better soon.

Hi @Lindy2 . I have seen a few different Dr's and all have just said 'post covid' to me 🤷🏼‍♀️. They've looked in my ears and can only see my ear drums sucked in a bit. No signs of infection. I I have an awful taste in my mouth too which would signify infection, very odd!

Hi OP I had this. I was fine on week 1 when I felt the worst and then as I thought I was getting better, suddenly this wave of dizziness hit and it was quite intense at times. It would make me feel sick and sometimes I felt like I’d been on a long journey on a boat and still had ‘sea legs’. AT times I would feel quite travel sick and I would get his hot sick feeling rising to my throat and that’s when I knew I’d be sick.

This was all accompanied by loud tinnitus in my ear, which has subsided but still there if I am in quiet room.

I had a phone appointment with the GP and they told me to put drops in my ears. I guess thinking I had blocked ears. It didn’t help and I could hear fine out of them.

I also had the weird taste in my mouth - a weird meaty taste, is that what you have?

Have a look at POTS (postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome). Some people are suffering from this post covid.

Here's a talk on it.

Piggywaspushed · 11/02/2022 19:00

I had vertigo as did quite a few colleagues. Went away after maybe 10 weeks.

Januarypip · 11/02/2022 19:07

Yes me Sad

I'm feeling dizzy, vertigo and nauseous. GP says labyrinthitis but everything I've read says this gets better quickly and I'm not seeing much change.
Lost weight due to so much sickness. Really need to go back to work so need to shift it

PaperMonster · 11/02/2022 20:28

My experience of Covid was like having Labyrinthitis. Hope it doesn’t come back again!

sproutsandparsnips · 11/02/2022 20:51

It could be vestibular neuronitis which can occur after a viral infection. It is inflammation of the vestibulocochlear nerve. If you have no ear symptoms this is more likely than labyrinthitis. There is medication that can be prescribed by GP that could help, and it may take a few weeks to settle, although should improve.

Cotswoldmama · 11/02/2022 21:00

It sounds like labyrinthitis. When I had it it was awful for about 2 weeks then gradually got better. You can get prescribed anti sickness medication but it can slow down your recovery. There are exercises you can do you can find them on YouTube, they help to sort of reset your eyes/brain! I got flare ups for a while after but never as bad and I could usually feel them coming a bit like a migraine.

Covidworries · 11/02/2022 23:44

Its really common after covid. Some people have suffen onset single sided deafness with it.

I suffer with vertigo and have tablets prescribed for it. They do wipe me out through so wouldnt drive. Not that i can drive with vertigo anyway. I tend to sleep for hrs extra after tablets and then normally feel a bit better the following day.

For me over tiredness makes things worse

rosabright · 12/02/2022 17:17

The is everyone!! I defo don't think it's heart related as my blood pressure etc are always fine and I never feel fainty or lightheaded, just off balance and like there's pressure in my ears. Feels like someone has my head, neck and shoulders in a vice. I felt like that during covid too so I guess it's just going to take a while to wear off 😩. I do think my vestibular nerve is affected as noises seem to irritate me a lot and make the dizziness worse. I just want to get back to normal, get back to work and have fun with my little boy - so annoying. After the past 2 years this is not needed! Thanks for everyone's help x

Can anyone help me, got tinnitus in September last year, went to ENT, no hearing issues or any other symptoms they said everything was okay. Got covid in feb & 2 weeks later started with dizziness & I’ve had it ever since some days I’m okay & others I feel foggy. Has anyone else had this? Not sure what to think, does it get better

Piggywaspushed · 07/06/2023 19:55

Yes, had that. It's nasty.

Get anaemia test.

Ask for proper nausea meds.

Fayy · 07/06/2023 20:55

Mines been 3 months now with this dizziness sometimes spins other days it’s just unbalanced. I don’t get sickness with it just the weird dizziness.

Piggywaspushed · 07/06/2023 21:02

The proper nausea meds help with dizziness, honest.

My drug of choice was odansetron.

Fayy · 07/06/2023 21:04

So did yours eventually go away then? Keep thinking I’ve got mineres disease

Piggywaspushed · 07/06/2023 21:25

Yes, it did. I know quite a few people who have suffered post Covid with vertigo.

Fayy · 07/06/2023 21:32

Was yours with head movements or was there no pattern with it?

Piggywaspushed · 07/06/2023 22:11

Constant. Especially bad at tops of stairs.

Fayy · 07/06/2023 22:14

So strange mines more or less constant as well, have a few alright days then it starts again

Sunshine92 · 11/07/2024 11:32

Hi @Fayy and @rosabright,
I’m currently having similar symptoms to you post covid - been about 4 weeks so far. Currently on holiday and things are feeling worse. Wondering how long things took for you to get better and if you had any medication that helped or just had to ride it out?
Many thanks!

Gibafvk · 22/07/2024 16:56

I’ve got this and I had it last time I had Covid, it’s so bloody horrible. It did go away the first time with pacing and just trying to ignore it a bit but it’s a bit scary to try and go about in public places feeling so dizzy and woozy.
