@GirlInACountrySong

4th vaccine? When will it end.
Only a smallish number of people are being given a 4th vaccine. That's due to having an issue with their immune system, due to a health condition and/or medication they take. We know that these people may have a weaker response to the vaccines than your average person, hence the 3rd primary dose, prior to a booster.

@Abraxan your post should be copied and pasted even time some wide eyed innocent says what did the ECV do pre Covid?

Seconded - I wouid have hoped that the 'but isn't it the same as....' had been asked and answered with an explanation of why it isn't, that the penny might have dropped by now.

The prevalence of the condition, the availability of treatments, the banning of symtomatic people from some settings (eg noro from hospitals) occupational restrictions (barring of all those with D&V from high risk things such as catering) and required isolation for certain notifiable diseases all make a considerable difference

I really don't see why a disease as risky as covid for millions, which has fewer and scarcer treatments, should have fewer infection control measures associated with it than other notifiable diseases

CryingAtTheDiscotheque · 14/02/2022 08:39

It will be interesting to see what happens in Denmark and Norway. I think I read that Denmark rates are rising across the board but perhaps they will settle again.
Good post Abraxan.

MangyInseam · 14/02/2022 13:48

@Millicent2022

The fact that antibodies go down doesn't necessarily mean that there's no protection by the immune system. There are other ways our body protects against infection that are not so easy to test for, so mostly they don't.

Northern Ireland removing final restrictions from tomorrow but it’s only England doing so according to some. So that’s now England, Northern Ireland, Denmark, Sweden and Norway. There maybe others I’ve not read about.

A little update on our seven day average figures from 26th January was 92,151 cases and 262 deaths. Today is 55,556 cases and 177 deaths.

We must be in dropping territory not changed reporting even by most pp views I reckon
Inastatus · 15/02/2022 15:16

@MarshaBradyo - no doubt there’ll be someone along in a minute to tell us that those figures are meaningless 😂

2X4B523P · 15/02/2022 16:14

Maybe not, most seem to have realised their doom predictions didn’t materialise.

Latest week average figures are 52,697 cases down from 92,151 on last day of mask mandate and 166 deaths down from 262.

Inastatus · 15/02/2022 16:36

Thanks for that @2X4B523P - very promising.

CryingAtTheDiscotheque · 15/02/2022 16:41

Free tests (LFT and PCR) are being ditched from next week apparently - so soon nobody will know whether the figures are "promising" or not - and presumably the surveillance of new variants will also be affected. Great idea.

Benjispruce5 · 15/02/2022 16:47

@2X4B523P how do we know those figures are true? If people aren’t testing Confused

Genius!!!

By no longer testing for Covid we can finally beat it and achieve zero Covid.

Why didn't anyone think of this before?

MarshaBradyo · 15/02/2022 17:21

ONS showed drops

Iirc it’s going to April so at least it won’t be it’s the testing doing it, it’s really not improving etc

2X4B523P · 15/02/2022 17:26

@Inastatus your welcome and @Benjispruce5 thanks for proving above point by Inastatus and that’s why I’ve included death figures. I would also include hospitalisation figures but googling uk covid cases only brings up cases and deaths looking back. I couldn’t be bothered searching any further.

DogFacedWoman · 15/02/2022 21:58

Hospital patients are down from c14000 to c12300.
Those on ventilators are down from 441 to 393.
A drop of around 10% over the past week.

Trump called it about 18 months ago

CryingAtTheDiscotheque · 16/02/2022 07:50

I’ve always been a big fan of Chris Whitty - but where the hell is he? Not a peep since he was knighted….

containsnuts · 16/02/2022 08:39

This news seems so at odds with my experience yesterday at our GP surgery with DC for fever. When I booked the appointment, the first thing I was asked was if I'd done a test, then at the appointment asked again if I'd tested, then we were recommended to go for a PCR (had only done LFT) Blush. The place was still set-up like march 2020 with distancing, hazard tape etc. Weird to imagine everything just going back to 'normal' next week.

If free testing ends what are implications for medical settings? For, example, would DC have been refused an appointment or assessment been delayed pending a test on entry? Would only those with access to tests be able to visit loved ones in hospital? Just wondering.

DottyHarmer · 16/02/2022 08:59

Agree, @containsnuts . I was asked to get a pcr before seeing the doctor, and still the appointment was on the telephone ! (And I had no covid symptoms Confused ) Dh had a problem down below Blush and he got a bit upset because when he spoke to the doctor she barked at him to get a pcr (since when has a discharge been a symptom of covid?!). He then got some cream prescribed by email. Do GPS think covid is transmitted over the phone?

Our local council is full-on 2020. Offices closed and taped up. I have had an issue but no one will come out “because of the pandemic”. Pest control remotely, anyone?!

GirlInACountrySong · 16/02/2022 09:48

Bloody hell! They are in for a shock soon then

Mask wearing has dropped right off here.

It's an important question.

As things stand, there is still access to free LFT and PCR testing so it's at least arguably viable for many non-emergency medical settings to require it.

Once that goes, I would guess some provision will still be made for free testing access, particularly for planned surgery and inpatient admissions. GPs I think are more likely to be expected to see patients without tests: the numbers concerned are so much higher and it would be vastly more of an undertaking to keep tests available for everyone who sees a GP. For visiting, I really don't know.
