If you have an eligible DS, what did you decide re vaccination?

I’m still on the fence and would like to hear from people who have decided either way for their son.

I’m specifically asking about boys because of the myocarditis risk.

My DS is 14 and I’m not sure. I had all my jabs without a second thought but it feels different for DS somehow.

He had Covid (very mildly) back in 2020 and nothing since.

My 11yr old was left very unwell after covid (had a thread on here). She has been left unable to walk. I didn't hesitate when my 14yr olds appointment came through. I will be vaccinating my 11yr old and 8yr old when the time comes.

It sounds like I’m in a similar situation to you @Hotpinkangel19

Dd - 13, both jabs and no issues.

I’m sorry to hear about your 11 yo @IsThisAkissingBook.

What is the long term prognosis for her?

Dc 7 yo has had 2 jabs (not UK). Dc has a slight underlying health condition and our gp strongly recommended vaccination for dc.

@Nilbog no idea to be honest. She won't see anyone because she has ptsd now. We are lucky she is alive. She didn't eat for almost 3 months. Hasn't walked in almost 6. She was in intensive care in Bristol (we live in Pembs). She was in 3 different hospitals it was a living hell. She didn't get a cough it was neurological and luckily very rare in children. She has a 6 week memory blank.

I'm not getting my DS (11) vaccinated. Before he was eligible we all had Covid (delta) and he only knew as I tested him when I got it. No symptoms whatsoever. He plays sport 6 days a week so would hate to have to miss it for a vaccine to protect him against an illness with no symptoms for him.
Travel wise I can't see Spain etc staying this strict, especially when people change plans to other countries who allow testing so that doesn't concern me either.

DS17 had no side effects whatsoever, not even a sore arm.

DS12 had a very slight headache the next day, but took one paracetemol and it was gone.

DS17 made his own decision/bookings and DS12 we did need to give consent for but we made it clear that if he did not want to have it it wasn't something we were going to push.

Both DH and I are now triple vaxxed. We are in Sydney, and it is just making its way through the schools now, not at all concerned.

We will be irritated if we need to isolate, but Covid is inevitable at this point - we have done what we can based on the information we have. So no point worrying.

IWishIWasABaller · 08/02/2022 23:16
@IWishIWasABaller what is particular helped your DS decide?
Well the majority of his friends aren't vaccinated either and the only place they couldn't go at the time without a vaccine was to the cinema. So he said he didn't think there was a need for him to get it just yet. I'm sure if he needs one to go abroad or it's holds him back he might reconsider. He had a heart murmur also when he was younger so that was a worry also .

Nandocushion · 08/02/2022 23:17
@Nandocushion I’d be horrified if my DS went off to get his vaccination without my knowledge. Personally I don think he’s equipped to make the decision by himself (he’s not NT).
Well if he's not NT then depending on his situation, that might change things for me too. But my DD is not NT and she would be equipped to make that decision, as she's high-functioning and very well informed.

@Nilbog we had it a year ago so it was likely a more severe strain as well. Their symptoms were headache and sore throat for a couple of days.
