4 weeks post covid, I feel like I did when I had concussion - what is this madness?

A few years ago I had a nasty concussion, recovery took about 6 weeks. I’d feel fine, but any sort of brain task (adding numbers, trying to work something out, anything that took brain power) wiped me out and I’d have to sleep.

I feel the same now after covid.
I’d say my energy levels are nearing normal, my breathing is improving daily, but I’m still struggling with any brain work - I’m forgetful (more than normal), have almost complete blanks about some things I’ve done in the last few weeks, and if I do anything remotely taxing I need to sleep within minutes.

Is this normal? Does it go?

How are you all getting on now? I'm suffering with neurological symptoms, 4 weeks since I first got covid. Seems to be worse the last few days (the neurological side of things) but I did try to go back to normal and started having a few drinks in the evenings again, so that could have made things worse xxx

@Magic1231 I imagine imagine little now. It akways makes everythi g worse sadly.
No change here. Using a walking stick on and off now.
Attending a Pain Clinic and trying to accept my new normal!
Hope you are all doing ok
xxx

Imagine??? Drink it's supposed to say...

Oh bless your heart, I'm so sorry to hear that. It's so unfair isn't it, but have to look on the bright side. Yeah, I do miss having a few drinks, seems like one is my limit now. I really hope you start healing over time xxx

@Magic1231 I'm exactly the same (I remember being on a thread with you before, I think we got covid at a similar time and were both wiped by it.) I've started to worry now about neurological symptoms. The brain fog is another level, I can't work (I'm an editor/author and need real clarity), I keep forgetting words and other stuff. One weird thing is my eyesight seems off and I keep seeing things as a different size to what they are, so like DH put a normal plate out and my brain said it was a small side plate, then I looked at him and he looked really small (he's a 6ft3 giant!) It's like things are getting skewed.

Also something weird is my hands and wrists are really weak and painful too. Tried to play on the switch with DS today but after a few mins my hands were shaking and aching so badly. They are so weak. Really struggling to even hold the phone to type and can't do normal things like get the lid off the coffee. What on earth is going on?

I'm so sorry for everyone experiencing this.

Oh and yes drinking makes it worse. Had one glass of wine in the garden last night and half an hour later my head was spinning really badly and I was so faint. Ugh.

@wildthingsinthenight I'm so sorry to hear 9f your suffering. Do you use a stick due to weakness or pain or both? I can only go out in a wheelchair at present as my legs won't hold me up but I'm only a month in so hoping for improvement. I'm so sorry you've had this so badly.

I had it for about a month afterwards then it slowly lifted. I still get more tired than I used to. Sympathy.

@Madhairday yes I do recall us being on a covid thread around the same time. That's awful you can no longer work, I'm fortunate in that although I'm my dads carer, hes well enough that hes not needing constant care and is mobile. I definitely would be able to go to work full time! It's so awful isnt it, I'm making no progress, when I was at this stage 2 weeks ago I was hopeful that things were going to keep improving, but they just haven't. Everyone else seems to just recover from it normally after a couple of weeks. What's worse is my family don't seem to appreciate how much its effecting me, I guess unless you can show it physically theres no way of proving it. I feel so shaky inside, the brain fog is ridiculous and after just going to the shops to get out of the house I'm now having to go and lay on my bed for the evening. Do you have a buzzing feeling? I think I'll call the docs next week for advice/a blood test, but you can almost guess the blood will be 'normal' and the only advice is to rest... but I am like you worried this is permanent damage xxx

Magic1231 · 06/08/2022 18:06

Wouldn't be able to work full time*
