Hi,
My DS felt unwell Monday and tested negative on lateral flow. He continued to feel unwell and when we tested him yesterday he had a positive result.
I've been in close contact with him, on Tuesday I was hugging him lots and he accidentally coughed on my when I did his LFT.
I started to feel ill yesterday and still unwell today. Just feel a bit sick, headache and exhausted. All my lateral flow tests are negative.
I'm just wondering if there is a chance I may test positive or if it's just a coincidence I feel ill.
My last real contact with him was Tuesday, so would I test positive by now?
Obviously I'm still around him etc but now he's positive we are being more careful and he's pretty much confined to his room.

I think you're supposed to do lfts for 7 days after exposure but from reading other posts on here 2-5 days seems to be the most usual length of time before a positive test.
I'm currently on day 5 following exposure (my DS) and still testing negative on lfts but I now have a sore throat so I'm not feeling too hopeful for tomorrow's test!

Gloschick · 03/02/2022 22:08

Contact Monday, mild symptoms from Weds evening, tested positive Friday.

tpmumtobe · 03/02/2022 22:09

DC tested pos on the Sunday (he was symptomatic). I isolated with him and tested neg on LFT all week. My symptoms started the following Sun. Still showing neg on LFT but I was pos on PCR. My LFTs didn't actually start showing positive until day 5 🥴
If you have symptoms you should get a PCR.

Omicron incubation period is only three days apparently.

3 days from contact to symptoms (headache). Positive lateral flow later that day - about 12 hours after headache started.
Very possible you will have a positive lateral flow tomorrow.

spudjulia · 03/02/2022 22:26

7 days. Although I was with my contact (son) for the whole 7 days so not sure when the virus actually jumped over to me!

hellcatspangle · 03/02/2022 22:29

Not me but DH. Contact Saturday night, cough started Monday but was negative on lateral flow monday eve and tuesday. Had pcr Tuesday which came back positive on wed (LFT was also positive by this point)

Porcupineintherough · 03/02/2022 22:44

Ds1 started symptoms last Friday, positive last Sunday. I started symptoms yesterday, positive today. So 3-6 days.

30not13 · 03/02/2022 22:59

Dc tested positive Monday night
I tested positive Thursday night

Overandout1 · 03/02/2022 23:32

Thank you all for the information, it's really helpful. Looks like I'm not on the clear yet then!
I know that if I'm testing negative and double jabbed then technically I don't need to isolate but I cancelled an appointment today because I felt wrong potentially exposing others, just incase I do test positive eventually!

About 3 days. I had symptoms so had a pcr which was positive. I didn’t test positive on a lateral flow until today which is 3 days on from my pcr and 6 from probable exposure.

Autistic Ds2 started acting odd a week ago. Became ill on Saturday. Won't let us test him.

DH started to feel ill on Saturday, too, though his peak sleepiness was 3 days after Ds2. Tested positive on Monday.

I felt a bit rough/migrainey a few days last week. Put it down to something I had eaten. Sore eyes and worse than usual joints, occasionally, this week. Negative, throughout.

countrylady2 · 03/02/2022 23:38

Just under 3 days for me.

Baxdream · 03/02/2022 23:41

7 days for my Dh and a further 3 days for me

intelligentPutty · 03/02/2022 23:50

My Dd tested positive on Thursday last week. She had unusual symptoms (diarrhoea) on previous Tuesday night but we didn't test till Thursday morning. I got positive test (and symptoms) this last Tuesday morning. So was 5 days for us.
My dh is still in the clear. (So far) and sleeping in spare room!

FlamingoYellow · 04/02/2022 08:03

Just to update mine - I tested positive this morning, so day 6 for me. I've had symptoms from about day 4 though so hopefully I'll be free on Tues!

ifonly4 · 04/02/2022 09:19

DH had symptoms ten days after known contact, but only tested positive on day 11. Highly unlikely got it from anywhere else as he hasn't been out much as we were being careful due to going away. I'd been isolating from him, knowing we didn't have enough time if he was positive, for me to catch it and recover before going away. Moved back into bedroom on his day 9, tickly throat next day, knew I had it Tues, but only tested positive Thurs.

workwoes123 · 04/02/2022 15:00

DS has covid just now.

Exposure Friday night / Saturday morning.
Symptoms started Sunday evening.
Faint positive LFT Monday morning.
Strong positive LFT Tuesday morning.

So yes, 3-4 days from exposure to clear positive.

spottygymbag · 05/02/2022 08:46

DD was a close contact through vacation care on Tuesday. Wednesday morning she smelt so odd and unusual I messaged my DM and did a test - negative. Came down with more symptoms over the next few days but only positive on Saturday afternoon.
DH positive next day. I was ill but didn't test positive until the Wednesday, so a full week after DD smelt funny which I reckon was her first real sign, but about 4 days after my symptoms started.

Goofbawl · 05/02/2022 08:59

DS’s friend came to our house after school last Thursday. Tested positive Friday afternoon.
We’re all still negative after testing every day since. But his Dad tested positive on Thursday this week. That’s a slow spread, right?!
My DD had it earlier in Jan and we all stayed neg so I’m wondering (and hoping and praying) that because we were exposed then, we all had really low levels of the virus but didn’t test positive.
Supposed to be going away for Feb half term and we feel like we’re running the Covid gauntlet…

delilahbucket · 05/02/2022 16:46

Eight days. Don't even think I caught it from DS. DH has remained negative and symptom free despite two of us having it and no one has isolated.

Pushkinia · 05/02/2022 17:16

I was in close contact on Friday morning and started feeling a bit off on Sunday morning but tested negative. I tested strongly positive on Sunday evening.

Brett239 · 05/02/2022 17:18

8 days

Whitefire · 05/02/2022 17:28

DD and DH were a week apart.
