Will they actually go ahead with the not having to isolate?

Do we think that it will actually happen in March. The not having to isolate if you've got it?

I wonder if testing will stop?

Sorry if my message went the wrong way. I am not feeling great and probably didn't say things how I wanted to. Never meant to offend anyone.

Wanting to live your own life freely is not selfish. Some people have lost all perspective.

Living your life in a way that endangers others is selfish. Of course it is.

Some people have no compassion.

HesterShaw1 · 07/02/2022 15:17

The definition of selfish appears for many to have changed the last couple of years. It often appears to mean "people who don't do what I want".

If we're going by their definition, yeah ok I'm selfish.

All humans are inherently selfish. We want what’s best for ourselves and the ones we love the most. It’s a common trait. I don’t think it’s an insult really, although I know people think it is.
HesterShaw1 · 07/02/2022 15:33

I agree with you @Mickarooni.

It's only recently perfectly normal human behaviour has been decried as "selfish".

I was completely over the word selfish by about May 2020.

I'm confused, why do you think unvaccinated people will keep testing? Surely, like anyone else, they'll stay at home if they feel significantly ill, otherwise go out and about. They'll only know they have Covid if ill enough to be admitted to hospital, which I imagine would also be the case for the rest of the population

It was more a suggestion to test if not vaccinated. Because they are at the most risk

The reason for all this is money, the economy. Govt and science have done what they can, offered the vaccine, but there is nothing more they can do for those who refuse the vaccine. So there will still be hospitalisations and deaths but at a level the NHS can cope with. Say *2,000 deaths a week or something? Apart from the very elderly, most of those will be unvaccinated but could have been saved by vaccination but they don't matter so much now because so manybare vaccinated

It's all about health services and what is a manageable number. So maybe, for the moment at least, we are that manageable level?

*2,000 is just a number for an example, I'm NOT saying thats the actual number

Forcing people to isolate time and time again endangers others, those with abusive partners, children with abusive parents, those with mental health issues.

Last year I was in a very bad place mental health wise and got told to stop being selfish and be more resilient. You might as well tell the CEV to stop being selfish and be more healthy, it's exactly the same thing.

You might as well say you only care about some vulnerable people, the "right" ones and the rest can go to hell.

Wanting to live your own life freely is not selfish

It's not about wanting to live your life 'freely' (whatever that even means). It's about the economy and health services. It's a balancing act all governments have to do.

Too much hospitalisation and death = health services overwhelmed, unnaceptable in the modern world
Too much lockdown, isolating etc = bad for the economy which pays for health services

It's as simple as that 🤷‍♀️

Thankfully the hospitalisations and deaths are falling.

And the number of people on ventilators and in ICU is nowhere near what it was

Yes the vaccination programme has done well again. The boosters especially this time. The economy can recover for a while.

Also it will be spring soon Flowers yay Smile

AndAnotherNewOne · 07/02/2022 17:16

I wonder if those "living their lives" have read the figures for Long Covid among young people. It hasn't been mild for many of them, it's destroying their lives.

It's heart-breaking to see the effect it's had on so many once active and engaged young people. We need to retain some precautions in schools.

C5 news has done an excellent analysis if people can be bothered to look.

I'm hoping it'll be a case of annual boosters for those who want/need them, with no mandates or compulsions.

There's some interesting opinions today about how well the AZ vaccines have done their job, and how they were screwed over politically e.g by Macron. It's been suggested this politicking has caused many thousands of deaths

I might be being thick but I still don't see how testing will help. Testing yourself doesn't stop you getting it. So how would it reduce risk?
SantaClawsServiette · 07/02/2022 17:31

Isolating is now causing gaps in the system rather than preventing them, so it makes no sense to keep it up.

People keep forgetting that measures are meant to protect systems, not individuals from becoming ill. Individuals who are high risk are not going away, nor is covid.

Flaxmeadow · 07/02/2022 17:41

Testing would give someone peace of mind, also to be more cautious as they are more likely to be ill and more likely to pass it on. Apart from that the practical side of having to test to do certain things, go abroad for example.

If i was unvaccinated I would certainly be more cautious, wear masks, social distance, test more. Why wouldnt you?

Probably yes

neveradullmoment99 · 07/02/2022 18:05

This is all fine and well but what happens with the vaccines? Do they continue to work? What happens if you get omicron and the effects of vaccination has worn off? While I agree, we need to move on from isolation, nothing is being said about these things.

Angelswithflirtyfaces · 07/02/2022 18:06

Thanks to vaccines and some herd immunity we will get to a point where covid is a normal infection with common sense. However it is not flu it is SARS in its origin.
The jobs where people are used as cannon fodder and zero hours will suffer the worse.
I had Long Covid for 16 months and used hundreds of pounds if NHS hours and money on medications, specialist clinicians and costly rehab programmes.
Surely if people are genuinely sick, a few extra days/weeks off recuperating is better for everyone?
I am currently a supply TA due to losing my job due to long covid. The school is rife, back to masks and staff and kids goung home midday after positive tests and illness. As supply I was not told this and had to sit next to several positive cases. I feel thrown under the bus, no choice to work at home. Any more of us school will shut anyway, but as long as you can earn your bucks thats ok?
I hoped the world might be a bit kinder and sympathetic, but this dod eat dog society is shameful.

neveradullmoment99 · 07/02/2022 18:07

My two children currently have it. I am now at the end of vaccine effectiveness. What does it mean for me if I catch it.
Im fortunate, have not caught it this time round.
