Vaccine programme for 2022

Soul11Soul · 03/02/2022 15:00

Supposed to be going on a much awaited holiday to Italy that's been cancelled twice due to covid restrictions. Italy have recently announced that full vaccinated people are welcome in but only if their last vaccine was within 180 days. My last vaccine was in December but I'm not due to be travelling until July. Are we supposed to be getting more boosters this year? I can't find anything specific online. Just want to know if we should brace ourselves for another cancelled holiday.

Similarly interested as going to USA with kids this summer. Vaccines not mandatory for entry to the country, but for access to lots of indoor venues. I think I'm hoping that the requirements may be relaxed, but also wondering about child vaccines...

Scianel · 03/02/2022 15:21

180 days is quite harsh, most places it's 270. Honestly if I were you I'd look to cancel and book somewhere else.

I think you might be right! We have been going to Italy since the kids were wee...nothing mega fancy just a campsite type place but the kids love it and we've been really sad to have missed it. But yeah it's looking like we might need to broaden our horizons a bit.

It's gutting but I guess if you don't even know if another booster is going to be offered by your travel date, or alternatively if they are going to change entry requirements or not, what else can you do?

Such a shame if you love the country and look forward to visiting though Sad

So a friend of mine had her 8 year old child vaccinated because she (friend not child) has an autoimmune disorder. She came back from the center saying that the nurse told her they were preparing for a full children's vaccine roll out coming soon. I'm aware this is mere gossip but fingers crossed.

Exactly!! Fuck that, leave the children alone.
Snowcrops · 03/02/2022 22:15

Jesus, fingers crossed? 😳

HSHorror · 03/02/2022 22:32

Fingers crossed here too op for kids vax.
I realised about this time limit a few weeks ago and thought thats going to be crap for summer hol when uk mostly boosted before xmas.

Wellbythebloodyhell · 03/02/2022 22:38

I work within a vaccine rollout programme no plans for any further boosters any time soon have been cascaded to us so far. I'm not aware of any country offering a 4th dose to the whole adult population at the moment so you'd hope that would signify a loosening of vaccine entry requirements for many countries, especially those who depend heavily on tourism

Soul11Soul · 03/02/2022 22:40

I've vaxed my kids for most other illnesses that wouldn't necessarily kill them so for me a covid vaccine is no different. Vaccines for kids would be good for us...not for you ... And that's ok.

Yes that is the hope 🤞. I know Italy are incredibly strict about covid and given how devastating the first wave was for them I'm not surprised or without understanding.

May be worth researching ive heard, Covid vaccines are mRNA gene therapy- different from the usual
Thank you. I have done some research and I am happy for my children to be vaccinated. I understand that other parents don't feel the same way. We're all doing what we believe is best for our children.

On the Italy point, I understand that Italy is bringing in a decree on 11 Feb that means no expiry to booster. I got info from tripadvisor forum - there are so many knowledgeable people there.

SWel4D · 04/02/2022 07:29

Fab, that's all we can do.

Ooh I'll check that out. Thank you so much. That would be excellent news.

Jesus christ.

People clamouring to get children vaccinated - for fucking holidays? For something that is no threat to them?

And don’t come at me with how “important” travel is for them, lots of people can never afford to travel and turn out just fine.

Or the to protect others line, because it’s the young who should be protected, they shouldn’t be protecting older people, it’s backwards.

People have gone insane.

underneaththeash · 04/02/2022 08:20

@Sloughsabigplace
You do realise that the side effects from the covid vaccine also occur in children who catch covid - and that they are more likely to occur. For example cardiomyopathy in the UK is three times more likely after a child's covid infection than after the vaccine.

It is higher in the US due to the reduced time period between jabs and/or infections, which is why we have a 90 day time frame.

You're not putting your child at an extra risk.

GeneLovesJezebel · 04/02/2022 08:23

No talk of boosters yet as they’re only just starting 5-11 CEV.
I’ll be interested to see what happens next flu season. I can see a booster possibly being offered then, but it depends what happens after March and through summer.

And if the vaccine stopped them from
getting covid entirely, that would be a great point.

They might get covid and have issues. They might have covid and be a absolutely fine. They might never get covid at all.

You can’t undo having a vaccine. You have a vaccine you are at 100% risk from any side effect.

Sloughsabigplace · 04/02/2022 08:34

And no, I’m not a rabid anti vaxxer.

I had one and I’ve suffered terrible adverse effects (yes, confirmed by consultant) that I’m still undergoing treatment for.

So I did have problems from the vaccine.
I’ve also had covid recently. It was a mild cold, as it was for my family who are unvaccinated.

So I took the gamble and covid was better than the vaccine.

I won’t be doing that with my children, who covid was a walk in the park for.

Soul11Soul · 04/02/2022 08:43

I'm not vaccinating my children just so that we can go on holiday. I'm vaccinating (if that ever becomes an option) them because my research has lead me to believe that it is the right thing to do for them, my family and our community. We all have a choice and that is mine.
