Vaccine programme for 2022

Supposed to be going on a much awaited holiday to Italy that's been cancelled twice due to covid restrictions. Italy have recently announced that full vaccinated people are welcome in but only if their last vaccine was within 180 days. My last vaccine was in December but I'm not due to be travelling until July. Are we supposed to be getting more boosters this year? I can't find anything specific online. Just want to know if we should brace ourselves for another cancelled holiday.

@Sloughsabigplace it stops them from being hospitalised though - which would happen if you did get cardiomyopathy or Guillaume Barre. So it does.

I'd review nearer the time OP. Simon Calder (travel expert and journalist) is predicting that all nations will be relaxing their entry requirements in the coming months, so by July things could be much better than they are now. If no change though I would re-book for another country that will let you in. I too love Italy, but I'm not going to jump through ridiculous hoops to go on holiday. We're due to go to Spain at half term and have just managed to get DS1 (14) his second vaccine in time, but Spain are still mandating masks outdoors, which is fucking annoying. I don't want to cancel at this late date, but from now on I won't be booking anywhere with irritating regulations that are stricter than here. Given the choice, we'd be going to Portugal instead.

OP I've also read today that France might be axing their green pass early (in time for elections, funnily enough) so coupled with what a PP was saying about removing the time limit in Italy, I've revised my opinion and reckon it probably will be doable for you by midsummer. Although the uncertainly isn't great I know. But fingers crossed you get your holiday.

But that’s like saying they would definitely be hospitalised if they were unvaccinated.

Which isn’t the case at all for most people. And certainly not children.

OP, for Italy, the 180 day rule is referring to the time lapsed since your SECOND jab....if you have had your booster jab they (as yet )haven't set a time limit on expiry of this...the schengen zone is moving towards a unified approach on setting time limits but currently if you are boosted you are good for the summer.

That's not what is being reported or what is on the Government website.

So this is saying that to access any restaurants etc it's 180 days even from booster. But we can get into country with a longer gap? But the UK gov website says...

they did a u turn this week quite quickly after announcing the change as they realised they'd be disadvantaging many of their own citizens as they aren't offering up any plans to 4th booster their own citizens (never mind tourists)...so as long as you've been boosted ok at the moment...fingers and legs crossed!!!but equally i'm not booking anything later than this summer which will be 8 months after my booster!

You can’t undo having a vaccine. You have a vaccine you are at 100% risk from any side effect.

No vaccine is 100% safe for everyone.
No vaccine is 100% effective either.

Serenschintte · 04/02/2022 16:46

Italy has been really strict from the beginning. I would seriously be looking for somewhere else.
Even to cross a land boarder into Italy you need a test. I can’t see them getting less strict.

There's a bit of confusion about the new changes for Italy. The English language press is reporting that as long as you have had your second jab/or booster, you'll be good to go.
That's not what the Italian language press and the Italian PM said on Wednesday (it'll be released as statute next week) It was said that for foreign visitors to Italy, if the vaccine schedule had been completed (it's not clear at the moment if that means 2nd dose or booster) less than 180 days ago, you're good to go, but if it was more than 180 days ago then you'll need LFT every 48 hours or PCR every 72 in order to access places etc which are asking for Super Green Pass.

It's very likely however that SGP regulations will be relaxed in the coming months anyway. With 88% of the eligible population vaccinated (that means over 5s and up) and % of positivity has gone from 17% to 12% in a week, the govt is talking about relaxing restrictions slowly but surely. There'll definitely be a greater easing of travel restrictions within EU zone soon I think. Though currently the UK remains on Italy's List D.

Slight update from today's lunchtime news, doesn't mention tourists though.
From tomorrow, for those who have had their booster, the Green Pass doesn't expire
So, it looks definitely as though any new legislation is referring to boosters and not second dose only. Though of course, as o said, tourists weren't mentioned and things will change again before the summer for sure.

Soul11Soul · 06/02/2022 13:26

Thanks for the update @Geamhradh. We haven't got flights yet so I guess we'll just wait and see.
