Are people reporting positive LFTs or just self-isolating?

DS (away at uni) has just tested positive (again!). Is planning to self-isolate for the 5 days, and until negative tests, but when I asked him if he'd logged his positive result he said no, and "nobody was doing that these days".
He's told all his flatmates (he got it from them anyway) and his friends who he's seen/ been near in the last week so they can test regularly.

Is Test & Trace still happening, or did it end after 17 Jan?

He should still be reporting it, that hasn't changed, the only thing that's changed is that he doesn't need to get a PCR to confirm the result now.

Wellbythebloodyhell · 28/01/2022 22:09

I didn't report DS positive lateral, I informed school and sent a photo of the positive test hes likely to have caught it there as other positives in his class and we're self isolating until he has 2 negatives. He hasn't been near anyone i wouldn't be able to contact outside of school, I didn't feel it necessary to register it with gov if we're following guidance and those he's been in contact with are aware

Dghgcotcitc · 28/01/2022 22:21

We are reporting..school Insisting on sibling isolation but not if they are within 90 days of a postive test so there are all sorts of advantages out there that people may be not aware of!

And this is why we only 90k cases a day officially, rather than the 150k, 200k, 500k, or who bloody knows how many. The government can say it's in decline, and Boris pats himself on the back and says look what a good job I've done.

Report it so the case numbers have half a chance of being accurate. Track and trace is a separate thing.

Wellbythebloodyhell · 28/01/2022 22:40

Who cares about accurate case reporting? It's hospitalisations and deaths that should be the main focus. My asymptomatic positive child is going to have zero effect on these figures. Seriously we need to move the focus away from community cases. The fact I'm still testing my dc asymptomatically and isolating where required are far more important than creating a government published number, many people won't be testing at all and therefore passing on to others, my positive ds is perfectly well in himself and fully fit and well enough to attend school and other activities, but I am doing the right thing by testing and isolating us.

eastegg · 28/01/2022 22:52

DS tested positive just this evening! Have reported it because school will want the email from nhs confirming it in order to mark his absence as authorised. Although I think I would have reported it anyway.

Skybubble · 28/01/2022 22:57

No we are not reporting it but we have self isolated because the first time around myself and husband were constantly phoned twice a day by test and trace and told to stay at home and isolate which we obviously were, I felt overwhelmed by the constant phone calls and found it to be harassment, they kept stating the obvious.

Endofdaysarehere · 28/01/2022 22:59

No, not reporting.
Two at home with covid this week, one had it last week. All done with LF’s, none reported but no one is actually ill. If someone looked a bit off-colour I might, but as everyone is perfectly healthy I can’t be fucking arsed really.

It’s all the equality questions I can’t be bothered with. Every time. Takes ages.

FoamBurst · 28/01/2022 23:01

I'm positive now. Didn't log it. I'm staying in or fresh air in my garden.

2022sucksalready · 28/01/2022 23:02

Yes. Knowledge is power. The less accurate the statistics are, the less accurate predictions/understanding of the disease can be.

Whitefire · 28/01/2022 23:04

I really wished I hadn't reported dd's positive test, I gave up with the T&T earlier, it was just excessive and telling me that dh had to SI for 10 days and no clarification about being double vaccinated.

Fiddlersgreen · 28/01/2022 23:04

I work in a hospital, booking medical procedures. Our patients need to have a PCR done with us, 3 days before they come in for their procedure. If they have had covid within the last 90 days then they do not need to have our PCR because of the high risk of it still showing positive or indeterminate.
However, they do need to show us proof of their positive result including the date of test, ie. the text or email from the registered LFT/PCR.
Just giving a reason as to why you might want to be registering those positive results.

purpleme12 · 28/01/2022 23:05

Yes I reported it
Like someone said, if I had turned out to get complications from covid I'd want a record down there somewhere

EnolaL · 28/01/2022 23:07

l've reported all of ours and the other parents of the covid +ve kids in DD's class have reported theirs too. I definitely think many people aren't reporting and that numbers are much higher than they appear.

Gloschick · 28/01/2022 23:10

Skybubble, you will be pleased to hear the t&t system is far more pleasant now. Having recently had covid #2, the experience was much better. Just a brief online questionnaire to complete, the occasional text, no harassing phone calls!

Heartofglass12345 · 28/01/2022 23:11

I work for T&T and had someone be shitty with me for telling him he had to isolate for 10 days as a contact as he was unvaccinated, when he had done a lateral flow test at the same time as the positive person he had been in contact with, but not registered it so according to us we had no record of the test being done so he was treated as a contact.
As long as you aren't going to do that, crack on!

delilahbucket · 28/01/2022 23:14

I reported DS's, didn't know if it would be required at any point. Track and trace still very much a thing, it asked me for contact info for everyone he'd been in contact with at school Hmm. I've had five texts in six days from them telling me it's a legal requirement to isolate. I think I get it 🙄.

Fiddlers is spot on. I have certainly seen patients who have had to be treated as covid positive, because they did not register their positive lateral flow, got retested within 90 days, and the hospital test showed up positive, but we had no proof of the previous infection.

And I imagine it could make travel trickier too in some circumstances without proof of previous infection/ recent infection.

rambleonplease · 30/01/2022 13:39

I was also wondering this too. I imagine many are not which makes the numbers way way more than they are.

I have registered all of ours and then had to endure all the test and trace questions!! 3 times!!

VanCleefArpels · 30/01/2022 13:43

He should report if planning to travel anywhere in the next few months - a positive test plus a negative after day 6 will lead to a recovery from covid certificate which may be needed instead of a PCR test within 90 days

Allmyarseandpeggymartin · 30/01/2022 13:46

I did but only cos I wanted the “recovered badge” on the nhs app (sad but true)

I know of a two friends that haven’t bothered so I bet there’s loads in the general population

Frazzled2207 · 30/01/2022 13:47

Didn’t report DS or DH. We did the right thing and isolated.
Can’t be dealing with t&t guys on my case.
Yes am aware the numbers will be artificially low.

Allmyarseandpeggymartin · 30/01/2022 13:47

Ooh and test and trace NEVER rang me (I’ve got it now) - I feel abandoned!

Crunchymum · 30/01/2022 13:47

I've reported the positive LFT and the day 5 and day 6 negative LFT for person who had it. I haven't reported the others (there are another 4 of us in the family who have been testing daily to go to school / work)

purpleme12 · 30/01/2022 13:48

I just ignore the test and trace calls when I had covid anyway (cos I was doing all the things I should be doing anyway) so I'm not sure that's a good reason to not report it
