One of my DC has tested positive today. It was only a matter of time as rampant in the primary school ( we were asked to LFT). Currently has cold symptoms.

Feels weird after so long not having caught it and at the same time dreading/worrying about getting it - certainly pre vaccines. Also do feel a bit like I’m sort of biding time until I test positive.

Anyway this is a bit of a pointless post! I don’t know was just reflecting how odd it is when it finally reaches you! I also have health anxiety and am wondering if that will ramp up.

Yes exactly. Feels like it could hit any time so can't really plan anything too important!

RhinestoneCowgirl · 28/01/2022 20:57

Covid finally reached our house this week, I agree it is an odd feeling. Sorry to hear you're feeling anxious. This is how it went in our house:

DS(15) tested positive last Friday, felt grotty and was coughing for a few days. He tested negative yesterday and this morning so was back to school today.

I have been testing since Saturday but no symptoms and I've remained negative. DD (13) also negative. DH tested positive on Wednesday and has been feeling rough but nothing unmanageable.

Beakerandbungle · 28/01/2022 20:57

Yes I am resigned to catching it from DC so almost want to get it over now!

OP posts:
throwawayafteruse · 28/01/2022 20:59

DD tested positive on Monday. Her only symptom has been a headache on the first day.

I've started feeling grotty today, sore throat and achy. Mind you, I also came on my period today. The faintest of faint lines on a test for me. Hoping DH and DD will escape it.

Tulips21 · 28/01/2022 21:01

This week my family have got it...
Dp hasnt as when DC4 got it him and DC1 stayed elsewhere ( Im home with the other 3DC) DC 2 & me got it and DC1 has today so is now home.
DC3 & DP havent.
Its rife in Dc 3&4 school-.
The Dc are fine, Ive a heavy cold, its a bit surreal as knew we would get it soon ( Our county has been relatively low in cases for 18months tbh)
Hope your family stays well.

goingtokickthisweight · 28/01/2022 21:02

Ds2 tested positive Saturday morning me Saturday tea time ds1 Sunday. All still testing positive at the moment.
Dh working away so has avoided it all.

Know what you mean we had avoided it this far

Fedupsotired · 28/01/2022 21:24

Yup, no doubt I'll get it over half term! It's surrounding me at school at the moment!!

Ickle37 · 28/01/2022 23:30

I think we are all are in the limbo of getting. I did my best to avoid it over Christmas and ducked out of a lot events. Had it before, but i just couldn't do isolation again over Christmas! It's weird because i fear isolation more than the disease! Tripple vaccinated. I have a 12 week period now where isolation wouldn't be much of a problem. Bestie just tested positive, she like me barely leaves the house so no idea how she got if, but i am tempted to go and get her breath on me. Literally this is where we are at now! Luckily we are in a sensible country ( not uk) and isolation conditions are not so horrific. I used to want to live in NZ and AUS, but no thanks now!

JackieWeaversZoomAc · 29/01/2022 01:47

2 DC tested positive last Sunday. Both still positive today

I've been testing daily but only getting negative results after nearly a week in the house with both of them.

No one is ill at all (long may it last).

Beakerandbungle · 29/01/2022 08:32

Hope everyone’s symptoms remain mild.

I have a scratchy throat this morning but still testing negative.

As a single parent I’m not looking forwards to the isolation - and slightly concerned if we get a domino effect of me and the other DC testing positive later of how long I will be stuck in 😬

It’s funny if my child had any other illness I wouldn’t be thinking about it at all really ( maybe vomiting bug - always slightly worried I will catch those Grin). I guess it the 2 years of constant news of it, even though my head knows everything will no doubt be fine, there is still this underlying anxiety about how everyone will feel. And like I say just waiting for it to strike me!

I've just finished 10 days isolation with my covid positive ds and didn't get it. He was only symptomatic for 2 days, tested positive for 5 days but not until after his symptoms had disappeared, he was negative on his symptomatic days 🤷‍♀️

Exhausteddog · 29/01/2022 09:13

I think its the prospect of isolation. We were lucky that it was only like a cold for about 5 days - although it felt a bit fraudulent asking neighbours to drop some food for example (a few bits to last until we got a delivery) as normally we would have felt OK to just go shopping. I was kind of relieved that 3 of us tested positive on the same day.

Drywhitefruitycidergin · 29/01/2022 09:23

Yep - dd1 tested positive AGAIN yesterday (had it on 8th Dec)
Dd2 & I avoided it last time - don't think it's gonna be possible x2 so rather we got it sooner & were clear for half-term...

SomewhereOnlyIKnow · 29/01/2022 09:25

Yep, I’m the only one in the house that hasn’t had it.
I’d say the worst thing for my lot was tiredness, absolute exhaustion.

minimoojo · 29/01/2022 09:34

My son tested positive 12 days ago, no one else in the house (2 adults one other teen) caught it

zafferana · 29/01/2022 09:38

It got us this week too, after none of us catching it before. DS2 tested positive on Monday, me on Tuesday and so far DH and DS1 testing negative, but DH has very mild symptoms and DS1 said this morning that his breakfast tasted funny, so ...

The one upside that we'll all be done with it by half-term. Every cloud and all that.

zafferana · 29/01/2022 09:39

Mine started with a mild sore throat OP. I got a negative test in the morning, but positive by the evening.

urghrtypically · 29/01/2022 09:57

I'v got it now finally, obviously had to be whilst I'm pregnant. Horrible headache and blocked nose but thankfully not much in the way of coughing and I can still taste my food!

SallyWD · 29/01/2022 10:19

This was exactly me last weekend. One child tested positive, I'd never had it but always feared it (I'm at higher risk too). Within a couple of days we'd all tested positive. I was surprised how unwell I've been given I'm triple vaccinated and people say Omicron is mild. Now a week later I'm starting to feel human again although I still have symptoms. Hope it's an easy ride for you.

Beakerandbungle · 29/01/2022 11:12

Hope everyone has an easy ride 🤞. I’ve ordered a PCR as would rather test positive sooner than later ( and have a slight temp).

DC seems largely fine, just blocked nose and very mild temp.

So many people saying ‘why on Earth did you test him’ - which I guess is a good point! It’s odd as I don’t regularly test the kids and haven’t got other colds.

Also made me realise how many people now don’t test at all even with symptoms, particularly kids. Which again I can understand.

So strange how some households everyone goes down, others none! My friend has been sleeping with her very symptomatic DS and 9 days on still negative and no symptoms.

OP posts:
Idroppedthescrewinthetuna · 29/01/2022 11:20

Covid has been in our house since the 9th. We have been so so careful! I wasn't shocked tho as 3 children in school.
Youngest got it after 3 days in sch. Then 8yr old got it. We had 10 mins of the all clear, when my eldest came downstairs telling us she didn't feel well. We don't believe she got it from other 2, we believe she picked this up from her sch.
Both myself and my CEV partner haven't had it, even with youngest sleeping next to us while positive.
So I am still waiting for us to get it.
Younger 2 children were fine. Eldest hasn't been out of bed for a week now. 😔

rainrainraincamedowndowndown · 29/01/2022 12:36

No way. No one from my family member caught it yet. Hopefully stay that way as long as possible, until more better treatment/vaccine comes along if possible.

AliTheMinx · 29/01/2022 15:31

I feel for you, OP. DS (10) tested positive on 21 January. Was poorly the night before with high fever and headache. Very ill in the day with zero energy, no appetite and extreme fatigue, and another night of fever. He then seemed much better, but developed 2 strange symptoms. Frequent nosebleeds and very, very sore legs. He could barely walk. Tomorrow will be his last day of isolation, but yesterday he was still testing positive. No point in testing today.

My husband and I have mainly been isolating in the house with DS (I've popped out for a few errands and some shopping, but wore mask and socially distanced). We have been testing daily since 21 January, as both feeling a bit grotty, but both still negative. I am dreading us both getting it just as he is about to go back to school, as we'd have no way of getting him there (25 minute drive away). Eeeugh!

Am hoping we will both somehow manage to avoid it, but it does feel as though we're living on a Covid knife edge! Good luck, OP!

BillyAndTheSillies · 29/01/2022 15:36

I was on a countdown to a long awaited elective surgery, which had been moved three times due to COVID in the hospital and elective surgeries being cancelled.

It had finally been rescheduled to next week. Monday this week the year one WhatsApp group pings. Three of DS1's friendship group positive so knew it was only a matter of time. I took a test with him to show it wasn't so bad - both got blazing positives.

Confirmed with a PCR as couldn't change surgery dates without the proof as anaesthetist could only go by PCR dates.

DH and DS2 both negative. Almost feel better now it has happened. I'm immunocompromised and seem unusually unlucky in that I'm triple jabbed and this will be my third time with COVID since 2020. Surgery rescheduled for March - exactly 49 days from positive PCR and I'm just keeping my fingers crossed that I don't catch it again in that time!

Beakerandbungle · 29/01/2022 15:41

Oh no @BillyAndTheSillies - I had some diagnostics tests scheduled for Tuesday which I’ve had to have postponed again ( last time consultant was unwell) - so frustrating.

@AliTheMinx - hope your son is fully recovered poor thing. The 2 nights of fever/headache and vomiting seems quite common in my DC friends who are 10/11/12 - littlies seem more colds
