4.5 year old tested positive hand hold please

My 4.5 year old was negative on Sunday and this evening we did a lateral flow as there has been an outbreak in his class and were shocked to see two VERY clear lines.
At the moment he seems fine, playing as normal and no temperature, no symptoms.
I am laid in bed and now it's sinking in I'm thinking all sorts and starting to get myself worried about him being positive after evading it for so long.
I have health anxiety so I always knew this was going to be a trigger for me but if anyone who has HA knows your mind always keep drifting to the worse case scenario.
I keep reassuring myself that it's a good sign he's ok so far but then I find myself reading about how people have gone on to feel poorly later on.
Don't know what Im hoping for from this post but just feeling a little bit alone and scared going through this and not knowing what to expect 😞
What is the general timeline for children? What can I expect? And what should I look out for? Thanks for reading 😌

My eldest child was really tired, headache, sore throat, fever on day of positive test. Still not 100% the next day but a lot better. Tired for a couple of days but nothing more than that.

Youngest, had a bit of a cough and a bit of a temp for a couple of hours. Complained once of a headache. Never gave paracetamol- wasn't needed. Back to normal after a few hours.

PlantWitch · 25/01/2022 23:22

My six year old had a temperature (easily controlled with calpol) and was tired for a few days. I know that awful feeling I was exactly the same but he will be fine Thanks

ThisMustBeMyDream · 25/01/2022 23:25

My 9 year old ds had a headache, fatigue, aching joints (arms and legs), snotty nose, covid rash on face, slight temp on the first day. Calpol for the first 24 hours managed the symptoms, after that he didn't need anything other than a bit of rest. Oh and some cool cream when his face rash was itchy.

6 year old ds totally asymptomatic. He was the last of us to test pos 8 days after older ds. I did a sneaky lft on him today (day 4) and it is already negative. I suspect his day 5 and 6 will be neg. Me and older DS tested pos until day 10, and DP got early release on day 8. Jammy sod.

Hope this helps reassure a bit.

TheBestForLast · 25/01/2022 23:29

My 7 year d tested positive over Christmas, my HA went through the roof but he had temp for 24 hours controlled with calpol and then he was running around like nothing had happened.

Easy to say but try not to worry, it will pass quickly 💐

Garman · 25/01/2022 23:32

My friend's 4.5 year old had it, barely had a cough and cold like symptoms for one day and that was it, not a bother on him.

Cuppaand2biscuits · 25/01/2022 23:34

My Dd had no symptoms at all. We were lft due to cases at school.
My niece had normal cold symptoms, runny nose, slight cough. This is both last month so most likely omicron strain.

2tired2bewitty · 25/01/2022 23:34

We all have it at the moment. 7yr old had a bit of a temperature and was very tired for 24hours and has since developed a bit of a cough but is otherwise fine. 5yr old has absolutely no symptoms whatsoever despite a really strong line on his test result.

Try not to worry, they will most likely be fine.

Kitkat151 · 25/01/2022 23:36

All the under 5s I know have had very minor symptoms...I’m sure he will be fine

ANameChangeAgain · 25/01/2022 23:38

My two have colds at the moment, and are much more unwell than they were when they had covid. With covid they didn't even need a paracetamol. Please try not to worry, you'll make yourself ill.

SarahWoodruff · 25/01/2022 23:39

It's gone through the whole class at Dd's school, all have had one day of being tired and then been fine. Honestly, it was quite nice curling up on the sofa with her for a day. She's the same age. Chances are it will be very mild.

AnotherConsonantPlease · 25/01/2022 23:49

DS6 had it. We were initially quite anxious as he has a chromosome abnormality and therefore at risk of being more poorly than the average young child. In the event, he only had slight sniffles on the day of the positive test. Had OH and I not had very obvious symptoms, we'd never have known DS6 had it at all!

NaturalBlue · 26/01/2022 06:41

My 4.5 dd tested positive last Sunday, slept for 24 hours vomited passed it to me & her sisters who are both absolutely fine - ones 2 and ones six. I hope she is ok so far?

LoudSnoringDog · 26/01/2022 06:43

My 8 year old dd had it just before Xmas and she's honestly experienced worse colds

MrsRosaline · 26/01/2022 06:46

My DD also 4 tested positive last Saturday. Other than a raised temperature on day 1 she was absolutely fine. By day 5 her LFTs were negative. Hope that helps.

TulipsGarden · 26/01/2022 06:48

My three year old just had it. I have HA but because he was better by the time we got the PCR test result, I didn't get a chance to panic. We didn't do a lateral flow because we assumed it was yet another cold!

He was snotty for two days, had a high fever one night with a slight cough, better by morning. Remained a bit snotty for a day or two after. He has asthma so I had been worried, but he's had far, far worse colds and didn't have any breathing problems at all.

He also didn't pass it to us, thankfully!

frizzyandfrazzled · 26/01/2022 06:49

Try not to worry. My daughter just has a slightly raised temp which is fixed by calpol. Time for lots of cuddles and screen time 🙂

My advice would be keep an eye on him and report to friends/family who can help you work out what is real and the lies your anxiety is telling you.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 26/01/2022 06:51

My 8yo and I had Covid last year. I was quite mild - had a snotty nose, temp and lost my taste and smell. DS was even milder, he had a temperature for a couple of days and zero other symptoms.

whataballbag · 26/01/2022 09:25

I struggle with HA particularly around covid, my eldest had it twice and was just snotty/sneezing, youngest had a sore throat and snotty for around a week, and I had a scratchy feeling throat, as though I'd been on a night out in a Smokey pub.

I think it's important to remember that your anxiety is almost always lying to you x

KeeG8181 · 26/01/2022 11:42

Don't panic, I have health anxiety too OP and I can understand how gut wrenching it is for you now as I was the same when me and DS had it. DS was 19 months old at the time, he had a runny nose and sneezed a lot for 2 days and was completely fine. No temp, no cough, no fatigue and no appetite loss. I felt like I had a really bad cold.

Please try and find reassurance in the fact that children do seem to get it milder than adults, Health anxiety is so daunting Flowers

user1496146479 · 26/01/2022 18:12

My DS had it. Although the Delta strain. No symptoms. He has had worse experiences with sinus and tonsils!

MrsJamesStewart · 26/01/2022 19:36

I really wouldn't worry. It is whipping round the school I work at the moment. I think about half of them have it. Not a single one has been more poorly than a bit of a temperature and a cold.
Both my children have it for the second time. Both times have been absolutely fine. First time pretty much asymptomatic, second time just a cold. They have been much more poorly with other viruses and bugs.

randomsabreuse · 26/01/2022 19:58

My 6 year old tested positive just over 2 weeks ago, successfully sharing it with her 3 year old brother. She had a temperature and slept for a day then was 100% fine and bouncing off all the walls. 3 year old had a temperature for about 12 hours and was grumpy for about a day before returning to bouncing off all the walls.

Worst bit, both vaccinated adults only tested positive on days 6 and 8 of 6 year old's isolation making it a long slog with BORED kids stuck at home for 2.5 - years - weeks.

6 yo is only 2 months clear of a chest infection requiring antibiotics and 3 year old is bit prone to getting viral wheeze, neither had any chest type signs this time around.

Isolation was much more painful than the bug itself for everyone except DH who was boosted in October but he's had worse random viruses.

HesterShaw1 · 26/01/2022 20:10

Four year old nephew was a little tired and listless with a slight temp for less than 24 hours. Same age as your child. Six year old niece had no symptoms at all 😳. DSis only tested because there were a few cases in the class and she was asked to.

Scottishgirl85 · 26/01/2022 20:14

Seriously a non-issue for otherwise healthy children. They'll be fine Flowers.

NothingIsCertain · 26/01/2022 20:19

My eldest has just had it, absolutely no symptoms at all, nothing, the rest of us tested negative throughout the 10 days. DC is 6.

DC was tested by pcr due to being a close contact and that being a request from our local authority/school.

DC got 2 x negative lateral flows on day 7 and 8 and was back in school on day 8 morning.

Try not to worry (I know that is easier said than done when you have health anxiety).

I hope your dc is OK, and you all remain well.
