Self Isolation likely to end in March

What does everyone think about this?

I personally felt massive relief when I heard this, finally looking like the end of restrictions on our lives. I know it will be scary for some people who are more anxious but for me I am really looking forward to this happening.

I think it’s a positive, so am looking forward to it.

Florelei · 19/01/2022 16:06

Is anyone actually self isolating properly now anyway?

DynamiteFilledRadish · 19/01/2022 16:07

It's great news, all the 'rona related news today is good news.

My perfectly well, but asymptomatic covid child has missed the last two days of school and hasn’t left the house since Friday. So I would say yes, people are still isolating.

@Overthebow

What job do you do?

I think it’s easy to be happy about this in certain jobs. Working in a school I think this is bollocks and won’t be teaching my class if kids in there have covid

Everyone I know is. What do you mean by properly?
LethargeMarg · 19/01/2022 16:10

It will feel like a massive turning point . At the moment I'm still really paranoid as every time I meet up with someone they seem to text me the next day saying they're positive - I've recently had covid so not worried about catching it but we are currently not supposed to be I work If a close contact and it's all so stressful and having to constantly test etc

Newgirls · 19/01/2022 16:10

I hope people with grotty colds, coughs etc will keep isolating for a bit - if anything good comes of this let’s lose the ‘go the office however ill’ mentality.

Caramelvanillafudge · 19/01/2022 16:10

I just hope some hangovers from this time don’t remain, like no face to face GP appointments, no visitors in hospitals etc.

cantkeepawayforever · 19/01/2022 16:11

I would be very happy with the announcement if I thought it was a carefully-calculated, scientifically-advised, long-planned and well thought through pandemic management plan, with checks and balances and conditions to meet.

As it is the knee-jerk self-preservation response of a pathological liar, I'm not really feeling the joy....

How will you know, though? If there is no testing or isolation we will all be in contact with covid multiple times in any given week.

Wnkingawalrus · 19/01/2022 16:11

But I am delighted at this! I found it so frustrating that DC has been cooped up inside when he’s complexity fine. It was the same for me pre Christmas when I had covid. I didn’t realise how ridiculous it is until I saw it in real life.

My family and friends have done. None have been out and about whilst tested positive.

But how will you know? Many are asymptomatic, LFTs are being done away with.... and many kids turn up with snotty noses. I just don't know how you can possibly know?

How do you know at the moment if a child has covid? Can you somehow detect asymptomatic cases/cases that have yet to be tested?

OnceuponaRainbow18 · 19/01/2022 16:14

@Wnkingawalrus

But the isolating is to protect others who may not be as lucky as you are with no symptoms

OnceuponaRainbow18 · 19/01/2022 16:14

@TheDailyCarbunkle

Because my kids would tell me.

Every primary teacher at the moment knows that there is every chance that a pupil in every class they teach is infected - but is either untested, pre-symptomatic or has their symptoms masked by parents dosing them up before they come to school.

It's a bit late to be saying that you won't be teaching in a class where there is a child with covid!

Curiousmouse · 19/01/2022 16:15

I'd like to know the case numbers per day, now that we're moving towards dropping restrictions. Presumably far fewer people are getting PCR tests and using LFTs as directed, but then those positives are surely not counted.

LethargeMarg · 19/01/2022 16:15

I think people will be very wary of coughs and temperatures for a while yet and think people will stir err on the side of caution.
It does seem mad they've said no masks in schools from tomorrow when cases are so high in schools

Yes, that's pretty much my thought process.

Obviously we will have to do this at some point - and I'll be honest, I think I'd feel quite nervous about it at any time. But if we can see the clear evidence for it, then, well, ok, let's look at how we move forward.

It also seems so very parochial to keep saying 'it's over' when vast swathes of the world have no access to vaccines.

Caramelvanillafudge · 19/01/2022 16:16

I’ve never been convinced masks make a jot of difference, tbh.

Exactly my thought.

If this was coming from the medics and scientists, fair enough.

But so far it just appears to be coming from a man who is desperately trying to save his own skin before he is thrown out of his post. He is trying to win over people through any possible means. If he thought the majority of the white middle class wealthy people wanted restrictions to remain he'd go for that option instead, also regardless of what medics and science said.

what do you make of this, then?
