How often are you testing your primary school children?

Just wondering how often you're testing your asymptomatic primary aged children? Has it changed at all since Christmas/ the New Year? Really curious to know.

We test our 5 year old when we see my mum. She is extremely vulnerable and we are her carers so we all test before seeing her. Other than that we don't for school in general.

littlerose12345 · 16/01/2022 20:14

Not at all really. DD had a headache the other night and did a LFT but other than that not as they hate it.
I try to test myself twice a week.

xyzandabc · 16/01/2022 20:18

Primary age? Just about never.
I think he's done 2 X PCR when he had a cough and 2 X lateral flows ever, one lft before going to a wedding, and the other, as school requested it before they all got on a coach for a school trip.

This isn't because we don't test as a family, I work in a school and 2 eldest at secondary, we all test twice a week minimum. Just don't do primary age child as it's not required and is quite an ordeal for them.

rattlemehearties · 16/01/2022 20:21

Not at all..I don't think the advice is to test asymptomatic primary aged children. Just the parents.

Rainbowsandstorms · 16/01/2022 20:25

I test mine twice a week and daily if there’s an outbreak or she’s a close contact. When she had covid it was a routine lft that picked it up before she had symptoms which helped to reduce spread.

@ItsSnowJokes if you’re testing before seeing your mum is worth testing twice weekly in the run up to seeing her, as well as on the day. I say this because my DD was negative on her Sat lft postive on Monday evening and negative again by Weds evening so could easily have been missed if we just tested on the Wednesday. Regular lft is far more likely to flag up a positive than just testing on the day.

Cupcakegirl13 · 16/01/2022 20:25

Our school are saying every time someone in class tests positive they have to do 7 days of LFT’s , trouble is based on that we should be doing them everyday as we never get to the end of the 7 days before someone else tests positive 😩

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 16/01/2022 20:27

I wasn't but most of DD's class have got it so we're testing every day. She has it now though.

Melonportal · 16/01/2022 20:29

I'm not.

Terminallysleepdeprived · 16/01/2022 20:32

Only if she has symptoms or is a close contact. I routinely test twice a week. I support a CEV neighbour and am a school governor so am required to test in addition if I need to go into school for any reason.

Notdoingthis · 16/01/2022 20:36

Never

Skyeheather · 16/01/2022 20:36

Never

AColdDuncanGoodhew · 16/01/2022 20:41

We didn't test our 5 year olds at all, until last Monday when one of them was complaining of headache/sore throat and sent home from school. LFT came up positive.

Started daily LFTs for us all then, my other 5 yr old and me tested positive on the Thursday, husband on the Friday.

Once they've had their two negative swabs or 10 days are up, whichever is first I don't know if I'll test again. The school also sent an email this week to say we don't need to test asymptomatic kids.

HeadToToesNo · 16/01/2022 20:46

Just the once, when they'd been with my mother who tested positive. Both tested positive so we isolated for 10 days and then carried on with our lives.

Wellbythebloodyhell · 16/01/2022 20:47

Not at all, myself and older dc in secondary test twice a week, I'll test youngest dc only if they're either showing signs of being unwell or someone else in the house tests positive

Mamaof2males · 16/01/2022 20:48

We have an influx of positive cases at primary. I tested child yesterday was negative but today it’s positive. So checking daily atm.

TheLovelinessOfDemons · 16/01/2022 20:49

Not at all until 2 of the children in his class tested positive, then once, then he got a stomach bug, we'll test before he goes back.

Scottishgirl85 · 16/01/2022 20:49

We have never tested when asymptomatic. To me that has always seemed utterly insane.

Siennabear · 16/01/2022 20:50

Never. Someone I know tests themselves and their children before visiting others. Completely over the top and they e missed out on many important occasions because of this. Absolute madness.

Indoctro · 16/01/2022 20:51

I'm not

Idolovetrees · 16/01/2022 20:51

Mine have recently had covid so not testing at all now.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 16/01/2022 20:51

Sunday night and Wednesday night (required by school).

Insertfunnyname · 16/01/2022 20:51

Never. I’m taking my life back.

RevolvingPivot · 16/01/2022 20:53

I'm not. Well I have this weekend as DH has it.

My eldest went into school in September and January before school opened to test. Hardly anyone else went.

Thank you. We see her about 3 times a week so testing that much anyway. A shame but we have to keep her safe as she is very vulnerable. Even if we have a cold or flu we stay away as much as we can and have worn masks for years if we are ill around her.
NoGoodOptions · 16/01/2022 20:54

I'm also not testing. I go back and forth but my kids are healthy and have had so much of their childhoods taken over by this. As I understand it, school can ask but there's no legal obligation. They have not asked for proof, so I imagine I'm not the only one.
