Just wondering how often you're testing your asymptomatic primary aged children? Has it changed at all since Christmas/ the New Year? Really curious to know.

I test twice a week, my kids hadn't been tested till Dec but were then a close contact at childminders so we tested for 7 days - although not the rules made sense due to the fact we were out and about seeing people more than normal as it was the week before Christmas. Now I let them if they ask about once a week when they spot me doing it. One will be daily again as 9 in her class have tested positive in the past 36 hours.

Whitefire · 16/01/2022 21:22

10 in a couple of weeks, not testing.

WorriedGiraffe · 16/01/2022 21:23

Never. They Havnt been close contacts though and we’ve never had Covid in the household so Havnt needed to. Wouldn’t routinely test them though.

Bluebluemoon39 · 16/01/2022 21:25

I've never tested primary aged dd.

ShakespearesSisters · 16/01/2022 21:35

Daily at for the last week as a case in the class. Another case announced today so will be carrying on for another week yet at least :-(

ginsparkles · 16/01/2022 21:49

If we are meeting anyone vulnerable or a large gathering. I am testing myself twice a week. And we tested when she returned to school after the Christmas holidays.

Angel2702 · 16/01/2022 22:00

Not testing as routine as she’s under 11. currently only testing as a close contact although DD had it in October so only just coming up to the 90 days.

Sandyjag · 16/01/2022 22:10

When we see my parents I test my child (5) and myself. And now her class are going down with it i might test her more often although feeling pretty fatalistic about that. Testing myself nearly daily since before Xmas due to seeing elderly family a lot and wanting to keep an eye on my child without having to test her constantly.

BettyOBarley · 16/01/2022 22:12

I'm not.
The only time I've ever tested them is PCRs when they've had symptoms or been a close contact.

beentoldcomputersaysno · 16/01/2022 22:33

Test 2x a week, but that's now turned into daily due to positives in class, which has picked up a fair few cases, so seems to be working.

Xiaoxiong · 16/01/2022 22:37

Only when absolutely necessary, so far that is limited to when we get on planes.

Wandamakesporridge · 16/01/2022 22:42

Yes testing the family including 10 yr old before we meet up with anyone vulnerable or elderly. Apart from that not testing her unless she is ill.
However now we have cases in the class so will test her more often.

The rest of us as testing twice a week anyway for school / work, which picked up DH when he was asymptomatic so I am glad we were doing it.

PiesNotGuys · 16/01/2022 22:44

Primary age Dc has had 4 LFTs in the last two years, 0 PCRs and no positive results.

dowhattyougotttado · 16/01/2022 22:48

Never do them unless there have been genuine covid symptoms. They've both had covid and had just a positive PCR, lateral flows I did the same day were negative.

My son is autistic and still traumatised by it even though it was months ago. I can't and won't put him through it for no good reason especially as he has recently had covid.

RightOnTheEdge · 16/01/2022 22:49

Never

Whyisitsodifficult · 16/01/2022 22:49

Never tested my primary dd, I’m old school if she’s poorly she stays home otherwise in school. All this testing is ridiculous, kids missing loads of school when they’re perfectly healthy!

Biglumpycustard · 16/01/2022 22:52

We were ask by the school on Thursday to test children daily then Friday my 10 year old son tested positive.

Idontbelieveit14 · 16/01/2022 22:52

I have only tested my 4 year old when he has had symptoms. He has been traumatised by them ever since his first test which was a drive in PCR early on in the pandemic when he’d just turned 3. I tested positive on Wednesday morning so tested him then and he was positive. My older children test twice a week usually but have been testing every morning since my positive.

WeatherwaxOn · 16/01/2022 22:53

Every 3 days. Various of DCs friends have had covid, some haven't, yet. We have elderly family and a close CEV friend so want to be sure we are not infecting anyone.
If we are meeting up with other people we additionally test on the day we're meeting.

First week back at school there were a number of cases in the school community, some counted as close contacts and we were asked to test daily for 7 days, which we did.

Sparklespangle · 16/01/2022 22:56

I didn't at all until it started going round the class. When they all had it we were doing every other day. In hindsight I think DD may have had it early on in the class group because she had the weird headache but idk. Now we do Monday morning just to check. I dont like doing it too often because there is so much plastic waste associated with it.

Lion1618 · 16/01/2022 23:31

We never have.

itwasntaparty · 16/01/2022 23:37

Only when we see my step dad who has a number of lung conditions.

School asked us to test every day for a couple of weeks before Christmas because of a massive outbreak which we did but not anymore.

Their school has been closed tomorrow because of a noro outbreak, they have never had to do that since covid started.

N4ish · 16/01/2022 23:39

Never except over Christmas when we were due to visit vulnerable relatives.

Northsoutheastwest76 · 16/01/2022 23:40

Only tested when asked by school. So once so far. I test myself twice weekly though.

ArianaG · 17/01/2022 07:18

I've only done it when they have displayed symptoms. Not doing it otherwise, too distressing.
