Has anyone managed to get a vaccine for a 12-15yr old sooner than 12 weeks after Covid?

My 14 year old DD had Covid over Christmas. We are meant to be going away at Feb half term but she now can't get a second jab in time (country needs two jabs). Has anyone managed to get one sooner? For most people its 4 weeks after covid for a vaccine but for that age group it's 12 weeks unless vulnerable.
She really wants her second vaccine so she can go. Thinking of just turning up and hoping for the best. Does anyone know if the vaccinators will have her record of positive test in front of them?

Derail but how do you actually prove vaccinations for under 18s when travelling if they don't/can't have the app?

Thethingswedoforlove · 14/01/2022 19:18

There is somewhere near us that gives the second dose after 8 weeks. Not sure why! My dd had hers after 11 weeks and 4 days. I didn’t want to risk her testing positive this week and being unable to get it this weekend.

Whirly

16 + can have the app proving vax and recovery
12-15 can request nhs letter proving vaccinations but it doesnt show proof of recovery

We have a similar situation so my son had his 1st vax 10 weeks after infection. No checks at all. He has his second booked 12 weeks after that and then we go away in April so will just make it. There has to be a two week gap between final vax and holiday.

Other countries have deemed it safe enough. So it’s frustrating if you need to travel.

Brokenhairband · 14/01/2022 19:48

Seems it is possible then! I have rebooked her jab for c.5 weeks afterwards which gives two weeks before going abroad. Will hope we get it done by staying quiet.

I have just spent all day trying to get my PCR recognised - I am hoping it is done now and the app will update.

Unfortunately they don't recognise an LFT for natural immunity as that is self reported.

My 12YO had his first dose 8weeks after his positive PCR. We were in a walk-in centre the week after the rules for the younger ones have changed from 28 days to 12 weeks. I wasn't aware and was answering 'no' to "has he had covid in that past xxxx?", thinking they were asking about 28 days, not really listening to the question - he got his vaccine and it was only later on I realised we "broke the rule" - vaccine centre had the record of the last dose for me and DD but they did not see PCR tests results.

Watapalava · 14/01/2022 20:23

It’s defo possible

In future I just wouldn’t pcr so no evidence!

Brokenhairband · 14/01/2022 20:53

Kicking myself for getting the PCR, should have thought about it! She had no symptoms whatsoever.

The track and trace support team told me 28 days after infection - were they wrong?

Its 12 weeks for under 18s and 28 days for adults
TwinkleToesStrikesAgain · 14/01/2022 21:19

@dementedpixie thank you. That's makes a bit of sense. I was talking to them about my son who has covid but maybe they forgot and were taking about me.

So she was fine and you want to vaccinate her to go on holiday !!!! What a crazy world we love in
SpottyBrolly · 15/01/2022 08:20

@brokenhairband I've volunteer at the vaccine clinics and have often in a data entry role. The only info that you see is the date the COVID/ flu vaccines not if the person has had COVID.

Brokenhairband · 15/01/2022 08:34

@Nerdygirl At no point did I say this is a holiday, her grandparents live abroad and we haven’t seen them for 2 years. They don’t live in a holiday destination and they are not really able to travel to us. Not sure what is crazy about this other than the rules in place which may be what you’re getting at. That said, not sure it really matters why for my question.

Thank you, that’s very helpful. We are going to try it in a couple of weeks and see how it goes.
